Copyright infringemet popped into my head as well. I'm pretty sure both the name and logo (or likeness) are property of ABC.

i sent them a email via their website:

Hello. I do not mean to be disrespectful, but isn't calling yourself "a Dharma Initiative, Inc. Company" copyright infringement on behalf of the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) and the creators of the Emmy Award winning television show LOST? Are you not afraid of a lawsuit by ABC for not only taking the name "Dharma Initiative" but also taking a logo from the television show LOST?

yes, its obvious that they are deliberately taking the name from LOST, and their logo definitely shares the likeness of the logo's on the TV series from which they most certainly got the idea for their logo. Although keep in mind the logo itself is originally from the TV series.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagua_(concept)

I'm pretty sure that they can get in trouble for the name though.

maybe they are looking to cash in on the new ARG. I bet someone there knows about the arg so they put the logo up to get more traffic. I don't know why else they would do that with there web page. Maybe the owner is one hell of a Lost fan lol

as an aside, maybe the ad thing in the source code will make sense later and he is in game otherwise quite the shameless ploy to make some money

Long time ago, when DHARMA was first introduced into the LOST world Dharma was easier to look up. There were companies out there that had Dharma in their name. It would be up to Disney to do clearances on the name and as it's been pointed out the bagua existed long before the show.

If this Company had the name for 6 years, before LOST ever was dreamed of, they could probably sue Disney/ABC, not the other way around.

How do you know that LOST wasn't dreamed of by the creators 7 years ago? And the logo is from LOST. I know that it's originally from a certain religion or whatever, but look at it! It has the same "symbol" within the larger symbol like the Station logos and it's connected with the words "dharma initiative".

simply put it was an OOG find and everyone is still sore about the DII thing so unfortunately we are all a little crazy and rabid lol. We need some sleep and a proper update. It could very well be that the DII incident was in game just handled poorly and misunderstood and if so then that sucks they will think of some way to get the game going. If it was OOG than some guy was an idiot and a d-bag who exploited us.

The story was told how the show was pitched.

By DII, are you referring to the DuaneIsInsane debacle or this whole Darma Initiative, Inc door company (or both, because it's pretty much applicable both ways....)?

Agreed! Glad to call this place 'home' for the duration of the game.
The threads there seem to devolve into adolescent sniping and cliquish banter that has no bearing on the topic of the thread.[/2cent]

Also my 'card number' follows the 8450****5*** mold.

EDiT: (Though I highly doubt the 'officialness' of DII) http://secondad.blogspot.com/ may be the 'second ad' reference. Nothing on the blog atm, but I will follow till 100% proven a false lead.
Seems that blog was last updated on Saturday, April 07, 2007 11:57:22 PM...

I doubt they decided to make this blog a year ago in conjuction with the game. I checked the page source, and there's nothing suspicious, although source checking has most likely already been done?

I agree, that's why I struck the comment Wink

It seems obvious that the 8450****5*** mold is online, with a 7---****-*** mold for comic-con(nobody who attended Comic-Con has yet sent in the portions of their card that replace the online format, so those dashes are used to signify which numbers are most likely never changed).

I doubt that this has too much of an effect on gameplay, as that would people people in the midwest and east coast at a major disadvantage. The question is, what is the significance, although, obviously, I'm just regurgitating what everybody else has been saying the past (insert amount of pages since discovery of number mold) days.

(Sorry for double posting)

Well, if they DID make it up 7 years ago, that makes it intellectual property, not physical, copyrighted ideas.

I agree, no impact on the game. Just, someone here (can't remember who and to lazy to go look) seemed to be wanting some more numbers to confirm the mold.
