Close, but no. I've confirmed along with another member of the halo.bungie.org forum that the timer is counting down to precisely 7:07:07 a.m. Pacific time.

It is the tru7h!

Sorry I haven't been around for a while, but I really didn't see the point of rampant speculation (even though that's kind of what ARGs are all about). I didn't think the SI was going anywhere.

Apparantly, I was wrong.

So, Bnet's down until 7:07:07 PST tomorrow. At least we've been watching out for the clues. Imagine all the H3 players who log onto Bnet today and start firing off angry emails to Bungie! Ah, classic.

Also, dunno if anyone else noticed this as well, but the page is bungie.net/defaultsi.aspx, another SI reference.

Next, there are a few more "KEEP IT CLEAN"s we need to update. On Unfiction, Jordan117 and degravedi have pointed out the following:

Quote:
KEEP IT CLEAN
0EEP IT CLEAN
K7EP IT CLEAN
KE1P IT CLEAN
KEEP IT 1LEAN
KEEP I8 CLEAN
KEEP IT CLE0N

I checked the SI's posts, and found he made a few new ones. Here are the ones not on Unfiction:

Quote:
KEEP 0T CLEAN
KEEP IT C0EAN
KEEP IT CL3AN
KEE4 IT CLEAN

Ordering the numbers gives us:

Code:
0714 08 1030*

Obviously, 07/14/08 as a date (remember, 14 is 7*2, and the obvious 7). 10:30 a time? If that's the case, though, what happened yesterday around 10:30? Was that when Bnet went down?

Now that we have all this new information, what do you guys think is going to happen? Is this their next game announcement, a new ARG altogether, or something else? Personally, I hope this keeps evolving into an ARG; it's been a year since Iris, and I've been craving a new one. It would be a bit anticlimactic if it all ended tomorrow.

Finally, has anyone listened to the latest podcast? I haven't downloaded it yet, and am planning to do so. Even if there's nothing there, it's still hilarious.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to get on Bnet at 7:07:07, as I will be out on errands. The one day they had to pick...I'll ask my brother to keep an eye out on Bnet tomorrow.

Expect more from me as this develops. *crosses fingers for new ARG*

EDIT: I went back and reexamined the defaultsi page. Here's what I found:

-The background is not just a circle; it's the SI "wide-eyed" face. It is also in a darker square, matching the SI logo.
-This is the second appearance of the "bored" SI face, on the left side; the first, of course, was one of the SI's avatars.
-"OFFICIAL TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION>>892 BDAA
-"SYNC>>FAIL
UPLINK>>FAIL
REGEN>>FAIL
SYS>>NOMIN
STATE>>LINK"
-I viewed the source of the page, and confirmed the countdown. It's actually counting down to 2:07:07 PM GMT, which corresponds to 7:07:07 AM PDT.
-Also in the source, there's a random reference to "rebooting..." at the end of the timer. This is starting to make me think that they're getting us all worked up only to show up with a new Bnet.
-Finally, I found a couple more gems in the source. Two hidden inputs:

Code:

<input type="hidden" name="__BNETSTATE" id="__BNETSTATE" value="H4sIAAAAAAAEAO29B2AcSZYlJi9tynt/SvVK1+B0oQiAYBMk2JBAEOzBiM3mkuwdaUcjKasqgcplVmVdZhZAzO2dvPfee++
999577733ujudTif33/8/XGZkAWz2zkrayZ4hgKrIHz9+fB8/Iv7vX/M3/U1/3WRv997DTw929+59Opv9PxhGIEASAAAA"/>
<input type="hidden" name="__VIEWSTATE" id="
__VIEWSTATE" value=""/>

(I've added a return to prevent screen stretch.) No idea what they mean, but it's worth something. If that's the state of Bnet, then it's worse than we thought. Anyone remember the name of the cipher from Iris? The one from the Xbox 360 displays? It's slipped my mind, but it could be another of those. Probably just grasping at straws again.

In the bungie weekly update there are some clues.

http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid=14735

specifically it says:
As a reader, I can only imagine just how frustrating it is to not have any new information just yet. Rest assured, dear vengeful, hypertense reader many things are in motion. Many things. These numerous things include the following:

Major changes to the Halo 3 Online experience
Sweet Announcements
Poignant Clarifications
Certain-point-of-view Truths
Things you will love
Things you will argue about
Things you will make angry videos about
--------------------
i think the webpage and the end of the update tie into eachother. unfortunatly i will be out of town camping and have no reception so i will have to wait until saturday to find out.

I'm not mad at Bungie but whoever is publishing this title which, granted, is most likely MSoft and if it is. Oh man, there's gonna be an uproar.

You know, I have to admit I've been in the gaming industry for some time. I don't care who you are (yes, I'm looking at you, Microsoft), you just don't do those sort of things.

It shows complete lack of faith in your developers, slaps the marketing team in the face and gives one hearty "screw you" to all the fans.

What ever happened to doing something simple? "Hey... 'X' is coming. When? Well... 'When it's done!'" We don't need a fireworks display and the Rockettes to make the announcement! In this case, something small and low key is better than nothing at all.

I have the highest level of respect for Bungie and what they have accomplished. But, I gotta say, this is the second time in as many months that Microsoft has dropped the marketing ball like an anvil.

Publisher is Microsoft. Rumor is it dropped to highlight Gears instead.

Bungie has been planning this viral thing for months, and Microsoft has no respect for it. Such a shame.

If that's the case, that's a rather stupid decision to begin with.

*EDIT*
Several fans on the Bungie forums believe that the above notice is part of the plan...

http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=23494811

If that's the case, it's rather bad form. Don't know what to think anymore.
