[City labyrinth] Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Suggestions greatly appreciated, but here's my first attempt at drawing some city labyrinths for Toronto. I picked an area that seems to have a good grid structure and no one-way streets. I happen to pass by the very edge of this area as I drive to and from work, but I've never been inside the area.

Attempt 1: http://tinyurl.com/6nn9of

Attempt 2: http://tinyurl.com/5s2h97 - the red area must be done on foot. Also, if we are to go both into and out of the labyrinth, at the center someone will have to hop out and wait with the trackstick while the driver turns the car around so the outward journey can be run.

why don't you try to do it near Dupont St and Dundas St W? I guess the paths will fit better. I don't know how the city is..too slopy or flat enough. I'd choose that part.

Hmm. If you zoom in, you'll see in that area there are a lot of streets that don't continue across other streets. I'm not sure how to get it to work out in that area. Can you give me an idea of what you had in mind?

I've made another attempt: here. This one doesn't have any additional circuits, but it is considerably larger, which would increase the omph strength. However, it does have 3 sections which go against one-way streets (marked in red). The whole area is littered with one-way streets, so it wasn't the easiest place to design a labyrinth in, but there's an attempt anyway.

Edit: oops...I might have this backwards...I drew it going from the outside in. If we're going from the inside out, the one-way street thing is all screwed up Mad .

The Toronto Trackstick has arrived!!! I haven't received any route approval from Eli Hunt yet, but looks like Kai went ahead and sent it since he could see I was serious about trying to design a route at least (I try to be pretty good about writing on his Facebook wall or sending him a message when it's appropriate to do so from an IG perspective when events happen or he changes his Facebook status or whatever, too, so maybe I just pestered him enough Smile).

So...you guys think these routes look ok? Are you just quiet about them because they're so good you figure I don't need feedback Smile? Or are they so horrible you're afraid to say something Confused ? Or do you just not care about us up here in Toronto Wink?

I'm downloading the software to hubby's PC as I type this (no Mac version so I can't put in on my Mactop Sad) and will test it out sometime soon. Maybe June 22 the Toronto team can do a city labyrinth???

Both of your designs look good - I prefer the second one because it actually leads somewhere and does not begin and end at (nearly) the same place. In my opinion, the inside-out-again design, although corresponding to the desing resp. course of personal labyrinths, is not equally suited for city labyrinths, sine these are intended to "tie a knot", i. e. change a given status irrevocably.

I also like your latest attempt. Nevertheless you should send your proposals to Eli and see what is his opinion. As far as I understood he has to approve the labyrinths.

Yeah, I did that a while ago...just waiting to hear back. The way some of the official requests have been worded made me think they wanted each city's team to agree amongst themselves on a labyrinth to submit before submitting it, but I did submit them to Eli anyway just so I could see if I was at least on the right track. As a little nudge to the PMs, I sent Kai a Facebook message today thanking him for the Trackstick and letting him know I would start practicing using it, but that I wouldn't be able to do the city labyrinth yet as I hadn't received approval yet.

Thanks for responding to my plea for attention...I guess I crave validation sometimes Wink.

Oh, by the way, strength stickers and Esperanto tattoos were also included, which I hope to be able to give out whenever we get a training labyrinth going here in Toronto (hopefully soon after school ends if I'm going to be involved, but I'll gladly pass them on if an event happens I can't make it to).

Toronto labyrinth, Toronto labyrinth!

I'm in town until June 19. I want this to be a Thing that Happens -- tell me how I can help make this Thing Happen. We can do this.

Hmm. Maybe June 14 could work...I'll have to see about something else I might have planned for that day and get back to you. thebruce, would you be up for June 14 (I sent you and Melody LJ messages also)? Is anyone else in Toronto?

Mind you, if Eli Hunt doesn't respond with any route approval this week, we'll have to call it off, unless you and Melody bring enough people with you that we could do a training run instead of the city labyrinth.

Edit: by the way, fonograph, are you in town seeing friends? would they come along?

I have a few people that could come, sure. I can only do the 14th in the afternoon / evening, though.

I would also rock a training run.

Hi everyone,

dreamerblue asked me to try my hand at creating an omphalabyrinth for Toronto, and, boy, it isn't easy! Toronto is a great city, but its lack of grid patterns messes with creating a symmetrical labyrinth, that is for sure.

Anyway, here is an attempt of mine. I am not all that happy with it, looks-wise, due to the lack of symmetry, but hopefully when you submit whichever design you choose to Eli, he will take into account the lack of grid patterns in your fine city. It is a 7-circuit with an omph strength of 18.15 (using the width to calculate the stadia).

Be gentle! Wink

*applause* for the attempt Smile I like it.
An idea I had, was perhaps somehow incorporate the CD tower... it can't really be the center, but what if the exit of the labyrinth is at the Tower? I haven't really looked at the roads, so I have no idea if it's possible, but there are a few other places around that could serve as the center as well... *shrug*
