[BoL/SiD] [SPEC] Who do you trust?

I want to do some spec here because in a way I feel that we are letting the game play us (esp. after reading DL's blog). I know the 'pause button' gave us a breather, but I think the vacaton is over and we need to be more active. So, a bit of a recap, or questions I have, or whatever you want to call it. Mostly I'm looking for what you are all thinking so that maybe we can push this a bit, or at least figure out where we want it to go.

Things we haven't figured out...

What the StartLoc.enf file does.
What the significance of the stuff in the source of the Moongate puzzle is:
7C47DF7D1 / 044051411 / 1C47DF7DF / 7C47DF7C1
What to do with Jessica's numbers: Link
The significance of Jessica's dream(s).
Who is responsible for all the deaths. I put this in here because while the easy thing to do is say that LBs and Umbrati are whacking each other, I'm not totally convinced. Each side seems shocked that the other is doing it.
I'm probably missing some things...

Things I want to know more about:

What exactly Charon does... We know it locates LBs but it is either flawed or there are LB moles in the Umbrati.
What BluGen is trying to do and how that impacts the struggle. I'm not at all clear what to make of their efforts.
What Chiaro Oscuros' motives are. This is really the big question for me. While she is providing most of our info, and seems to be one step ahead of both sides I'm not at all clear what she is trying to accomplish.

So, to come back to the title of the post... Do you trust your side? Chiaro Oscuros? Jada? Jessica? I can't see armed conflict between the two sides as a good thing (though maybe fun) yet that seems to be where we are heading. Ultimately, what is the 'win' condition and how do we get there?

Jessica's numbers were used to get into Umbrati.
One number from each column, clicked on umbrati font number pics, that filled bar/meter.
The puzzle was Moonlight Gateway, discussed Here

That brings up an interesting thought. Jessica seems to be headed for the Light, but her dream gave us a key to the Shadows.

and Jada is not going to the dark, even though that's where our speculation had her pegged.

I was thinking that maybe good ol' CO, with his seeming omnipresence on both sides, might be playing the two as saps. Maybe he's more violent than we thought.

Thanks for this thread, pancito - that was an excellent idea!

I don't really trust anyone at this point.

My sympathies were with Chiaro at the beginning, since I liked the middle-position, not being aligned with either of the extremes, but over time I grew more suspicious about her, too. I understood her as a sort of benign manipulator with a want for "balance" at first, but since all the killings, I've grown quite wary about her possible motives.
Talking about motives - what are the Lightbringers' and Umbrati's goals, for that matter? "Spreading the light/darkness" and "pushing back the dark/light to where it came from" is quite the weak agenda, and I'd be very interested in what they are actually trying to accomplish.

Storywise, I think it could be going in a direction where it will be necessary for the Lightbringers and Umbrati to cooperate against the "evil mastermind" (though probably not so clichéd - and Chiaro would be a possible candidate for the role). Trying to get Jaana and Helen to work together would be an interesting diplomatic mission Wink.

Another possibility I can think of - we find out that both sides are bastards, and have to prevent them from doing whatever they are planning (Nyxtel have a satellite that could be a potential danger, and BlueGenics with their cloning/eugenics-thing going on...)

Somehow I don't think it will play out as a "either the Lightbringers or the Umbrati win"-situation, although it'd certainly be interesting.

I do think Jessica and Jada can probably be trusted, since they seem to be rather ignorant about the whole matter, but they probably won't shed any light on the business, either (except maybe some very vague dying-candle-kind-of-light through one of Jessica's cryptic dreams. (If she's not, in fact, just making them up to get attention. Twisted Evil))

I wrote to Chiaro asking what his/her motives were.

Chiaro,

While I appreciate all of your efforts to keep us up to date on the actions of the two factions I'd like to know more about what you hope to accomplish. The truth is I don't have full confidence in the Lightbringers and I trust the Umbrati even less. It seems that yours is the only sane voice in this conflict, but I don't know what you want to have happen. I feel we are in a position to influence events, but to what end. Thank you for any clarification possible...

Chiaro Oscuros to me

One side thinks they know everything, the other side knows they know nothing. They are either blinded by the light or fumbling in the dark, oblivious to the true source of chaos.

Yet both sides have more in common than they realize. With smoke in their eyes, neither side can see he who works the machine.

Help the one who can see what others can't, for she can see the path through the haze.

Help the one who can do what others won't, for she can clear a path through the haze.

Once I am ready to be found, everything will be clear.

Until then, time moves slowly.

Well, that doesn't answer my question, but it looks to me like we're supposed to be helping Jess and Jada. Should we try to get them together? Any ideas how? And who 'works the machine?'

I know that we have had all the fonts "released" .. so what would happen if we wrote letters in those dedicted fonts to different "key players" and seen what the reaction was??

Didn't someone say that we could use them in messaging?

I sent out a message to Jess yesterday suggesting that the person in her dreams might be Jada and gave her Jada' contact and blog info. No response yet.

I keep coming back to the chat feature... can we access it somehow to talk to the characters? We have all of their screen names... it sort of seems like the next logical step.

So evil mastermind it is.

help the seer (jessica)

help the action (jada)

neither side knows whats really happening, both sides need their help.

And all of Jessica's dreams have machinery sounds in the last part where everyone starts screaming.. "Yet both sides have more in common than they realize. With smoke in their eyes, neither side can see he who works the machine. "

Well I'm still more swayed by the dark's "trying to tell the truth to the world" than by the light's "we know best" attitude, and as for Sharon Obscurus is she/he playing Sanjuro, or the wizard of Oz? I def don't think it's altruism that's at work there...

So far everything is a little vague to determine who to trust. It would help if we could figure out what everyone was actually trying to do, then we might start to have a clue as to which side to support. Those of us who are Project O veterans will recall that game had a similar problem in which we werent sure which side to help until the very end.

So we need to stay on the LB and Umb's good sides long enough to get more info before we can decide who, if anyone, to help. Which is fine by me because I trust Chiaro very little, given his seemingly unfettered access to everything, by both companies. We'll see, I suppose...

Agree with all of the comments about Chiaro. Yet it's unlikely that he/she could be working alone. Is there a third group of which we're unaware, maybe comprised of members within both the Lightbringers and the Umbrati? Dunno
