We solved it in chat, missing the two cryptic answers not in the grid.

Quote:
49: the first two

74: the second half

Brainstorming in chat led to the SPEC that maybe these use the words displaced by the clues.

TRUST DANGER MYSTERIES HELP
5 letters, 6 letters, 9 letters, 4 letters

Hmm. 49: HELP MYSTERIES?
74: take the second two words and divide into a 7 and 4 letter word (cause 5+6 = 11 letters).

Quote:
dragnet rust
started rung
granted rust
granted ruts
dragnet ruts
argents turd
granter stud
granter dust
grunted star
grunted rats
starter dung
restart dung
ratters dung
grunted tars
grunted tsar

Could you explain what you mean by this? Nothing from your post makes sense to those who were not in chat, I'm afraid. I see that there are two clues that don't have corresponding words in the puzzle, but where in the world did you get TRUST DANGER etc.?

EDIT: okay that serves me right for not taking a look at the original puzzle.

Hey remember Dr. Gough's crossword? Maybe it has something to do with that as well. You know, how the clues led us to something?

The displacing words are very odd choices:
elal salem izmena coquitlam

Anagramming gets you lots of yummy leads, but I think we still need to use the 49 74 clue somehow...

Well Nate solved this one for us.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

I saw the crossword puzzle and was able to replace the words that were misplaced. But of course I didn't think it could be that easy. After trying a few things, I looked at where the replaced words intersect the rest of the puzzle. AMMQI. I thought it was just Miami, but the Q is off. Miamq. Mia mq. MIA = Miami airport code. I was left with MQ. This the airline code for American Eagle. I checked all the flights coming into MIA and there's one at 11:15a from the Bahamas. The code is 4974 which also are the numbers for clues that don't exist on the puzzle.

We need someone to volunteer for phone contact or possibly get him into IRC if his phone supports it. Or if Jay's phone supports it.

And whomever this is, I let me give you MY number, for Nate, after this is all over....
