[UPDATED]The number 500 repeated over and over and over... The repeating number 500
I found all the specific places that the # 500 was used.
1.) In the news page when they talk about Beth's winning employee of the month: "Beth will receive a $500 gift certificate at the Redland Galleria Mall and a $500 interior design budget for her office."
2.) At Underscore Hosting website, a warning to spammers: "Spammers will incur a minimum $500 service fee."
3.) The Aquapolis hotel description page: "The Aquapolis Hotel will boast over 500 rooms, all of which will have an ocean view! The average-size Deluxe room is a princely 500 sq. ft. with a magnificent master bath and an abundance of upscale features."
4.) One of Beth McConnell's case studies at little-boxes.com: "Cows take a mysterious 500 mile journey from Lincoln to Aurora, NE."
5.) Leiphe's Lessons - "Have you ever spent more than $500 on one visit?"
6.) Leiphe Lessons Learned - "Let's say you've got $500 to spend on a given weekend. How would you spend it?"
7.) From the Metacortex news page. "Metacortex stands at the threshold of a new era," Walsh told the crowd of about 2500. (2500x2=5000)
8.) *Just Added* 11.12.03 - From Murpha's About page : "Murpha has repeatedly been recognized by Engineering and Architecture News magazine in their list of top 500 professional design firms in the United States."
So there's that, I still have no clue what that all means.

500 miles So the wierd thing is that Lincoln and Aurora Nebraska are not 500 miles apart. It's a bit over an hour by car and about 75 miles from one place to the other. Something is fishy....

Pretty interesting. I'm thinking that while in the real world the distance is only 75 miles, in the matrix they've made it further. Come on, there's no such thing as Redland, WA. So this supports the idea that it's another glitch in the matrix, and that there might be something about this 500 thing.

500 and 22 seem valid (repeats of 4 plus times)

OK, that leads me to the Metacortechs.com directory page for James Avery. The binary text displays this:
Quote:
Na e: Aver , J es
D pt x c iv
Have wondered about that last one - the last four characters could be the Roman number for 94, and the D, of course is.... 500 .
Don't know where that takes you, but I've been wanting to point that out to someone for about a week.

XCIV is not the correct order for it, but it could be 500 pt (multiplied by) 104

You mean, for 94? Sorry, I'm just not clear what you mean here.

Just found another "500" number (read the first post I updated the list). Obviously this is a puzzle. It's gotta be.

The first thing that came to my mind was http error code 500: a server error.
A glitch, even.

Interesting. So according to the page this is what a 500 error means:
Quote:
Internal Error 500
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
This could be something.
Also, this is just me but linking that page on protocols that Denegal gave in your "favorites" is not a bad idea. A whole page that deals with the different types of computer errors may come in handy in your Metacortex investigation.

OK, here's my 4AM take on the 500 thing.
I definitely like the direction we're taking it as a 500:Server Error.
Now suppose that this world exists in the matrix. Should a glitch in the matrix occur, how would it be broadcast? Well, since it might be based off of current technology, it might give a 500 server error. And since you aren't sitting looking at a screen, then you see "500" in random situations. So the fact that 500 is popping up a lot I feel is just a little inside joke (and a little insight into this world we're exploring).
Reminds me a bit of the ST:TNG episode where Data is programmed to unearth "3" everywhere. A computer code, but you'd never know it from a cursory glance.

Here's another 500 reference:
Someone mentioned that USH spammers incur a $500 fee, but guess how much USH affiliates can earn?
[Drum roll]
Quote:
Affiliates, earn $20-$500!
Yes, that's right! However, when you click on the link, there is no mention of a $500 limit...

*Reloaded SPOILER*
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Perhaps the 500 is, in a way, harkening to the fact that there have been 5 versions of the Matrix/The One before Neo?
