The bottom line is that there are no co-incidences here... whether the 500 thing is another number puzzle, Reloaded reference or is a pointer to a Matrix server error (the theory I'm favouring ATM) or something else entirely is the biggie here. Once we crack that nut, we can then go and start figuring out how significant it is in the greater scheme of things.
500 doesn't, perchance, have anything to do with the (at this point) still-debated number pair sequence God points out here?

Yeah, I'm betting on the same thing Azat,
I updated the list, but for those who are lazy here's the one I added right now:
The metacortechs news page talks about the meet and greet having a crowd of 2500 (2500*2=5000) Granted that isn't 500, but I doubt it's a coincidence.

heh. 2500 attended the meet-and-greet. 250,000 employees. 2500/250,000 = 1%. 1% will escape the Matrix.

While I like the analogy, I have to say: as per Morpheus, people escaping the matrix have to be relativley young. Given that people attending this thing are probably high up the corporate ladder, they (at least some of them, if not most) are likely to be passed the acceptable "escape" age.

How old does Thomas Anderson look? How old does Beth McConnell look?

and sorry for double posting, but how many older people would be associated with a virtual reality world for possible gaming?

Thomas Anderson was an exception. Beth is 20-something - given the Animatrix, and some short stories on the official site, I'd guess that's within the age range. But I just don't think they would have filled the room with only 20-something-year-old people... and these people have to be questioning "reality".... and why would Metacortechs want to provide an outlet for escape?

A few things to consider regarding 500:
Properties of the number 500
Although, I do like the Internal Error idea, and it does relate well to modern uses of 500 as indicators of performance or endurance, such as Fortune 500, Indianapolis 500, and so on.
And there is this from khandro.net:
Quote:
500-year periods of ten in all in which Buddha-dharma is expected to endure.

Another mention of 500 at Leiphe http://www.leiphe.net/lessons.html
Have you ever spent more than $500 on one visit?

you're all overlooking the most important one
HTTP 500:
Internal Error 500
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.

Are you even reading this thread? That's the most popular theory right now. But I do like the symbolism thing. Maybe it's a combination of both.
Lord, knows that in the Matrix, some things symbolize more than one thing. Morpheus was symbolic of John the Baptist, but also of God the Father.
Don't forget the really obvious one: "Jesus feeding the 5000"

We have to drift though: at this stage we can't be 100% sure that 500 is a Matrix-internal server error. We can't even be 100% sure that it's not a red herring... which I personally doubt... but we can't focus on one possible theory to the detriment of other possibilities which may, in the end, prove equally valid.
If you catch my drift.
(oh crap... I didn't even mean that as a pun... nooooooo...)
