[TRAILHEAD] Scavenja
The earliest squirrel gets the nut!

I was just watching NBC Nightly News (i'm on the east coast), and i saw the ending part of a story about a group of people creating a "alternate reality game-inspired" website. I thought they said "scavenger.com", but it doesn't exist. NBC Nightly News's website doesn't have the video. It was near the end of the program. did anyone else see it??

EDIT: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032619/#25750973

http://www.scavenja.com/

So, it looks like we have a new ARG-type game. According to the About page:

Quote:
Scavenja is an online, photo-based scavenger hunt. The idea was conceived when about 50 of the area's best entrepreneurs and creative individuals came together in Raleigh, NC for something called Startup Weekend. The idea for Scavenja was pitched and launched by seven of us. What you see on the site today was created and built in the span of 2.5 days.

Create an account

Select a game

You will receive one clue per day during a two-week period

Decipher the clue and take a picture Note: Some goals are open to interpretation

Upload the picture and describe how it meets the goal.

Note: Pictures can be flagged by other players if they do not think it meets the goal

The faster you upload a picture with a goal, the more points you get

The player with the most points at the end of the two week period wins the prize and/or acclaim assigned to that game

It sounds pretty interesting. I'm not sure if this is a timewaster or a full-blown game, but at least we can discuss it. What do you think?

It took a while to get a response, but I got my code which is "gonuts". This might save others some time. I am guessing it will work for everyone.

They're referencing squirrel nuts way too often for it to be comfortable.

Besides, this game looks like actual WORK.

...i thought that was the point of ARGs. You know, mixing real world stuff with internet fiction.

This isn't really an ARG though... as far as I can tell.

Just a photo scavenger hunt. Do I get points for tracking down the website Razz

I actually had 2 really good pics to enter but when I uploaded them I got some kind of out of memory error. Now it just shows broken links where my photos should be Sad

I guess in the future I will need to resize them before I try to upload.
Here is the one I tried to upload for "Feel the Force in a Bar" quest.

Scavenja - alternate reality coming soon

Hi, guys... I'm one of the founders at Scavenja... eventually we will have different kinds of scavenger hunts--some that are alternate reality... we developed this company over 3 days at startup weekend, so we're only able to introduce new features and new games in stages. Keep a watch out for some of the new games as they're introduce through our blog (you can find a link to it on the bottom of our site at http://www.scavenja.com) and by following us on twitter --> http://www.twitter.com/scavenja. I can't give details right now b/c we've been sworn to secrecy!

Hey, it's you! The handsome guy who shows up in 94-96% of his Scavenja photos! Welcome to unfiction where we rock the socks off of ARGs. I'm looking forward to all the new stuff you fellows are planning! Razz
