[Possible Trailhead?] Dionaea House

This looks like it might be a trailhead.

It's a website with e-mails, purportedly about a murder; then it gets weird. It links in the updates to a LiveJournal. So far, that's all I can be assured of is in-game, if it IS a game, and if it IS an ARG.

Still, it sure LOOKS like one.

Shocked

Wow, intense. Have no idea what one would do with it however.

[edit]
[spec] it does seem like it might be more of an ad though. or very pre-game

It's pretty cool, whatever it is. The mentions of the filenames on the Livejournal site were certainly ARGish.

If it ever turns into an ARG, I'll be there.

I'm not sure what, if anything, to make of this, but:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
In Danielle's second-to-last post there is a short section which is not visible except in the source. On the page, Livejournal is apparently reading it as a tag and removing it. I am not sure whether this was intentional, but if so, it may be the only obvious clue we currently have to go on.

In the Livejournal, one of the sentences reads: "An alert had popped up, it said ." In the source, it reads: "An alert had popped up, it said <signal lost="LOST">."

I haven't a clue what to make of it, especially since I've only skimmed through the sites once. I'm tempted to think there's some sort of Matrix-ish thing going on, but that's fairly wild speculation at this point.

I didn't see it as anything more than a haunted house story, which makes me wonder how far this could really go if it was an ARG.

I'm new to this stuff, so I haven't quite picked up the talent of telling ARGs from non-ARGs yet. I sent an email to the address on the website, and I'll let you know if I get a reply.

I read all the communication between Eric and Mark (and then Eric and Mark's girlfriend, Jenny, after Mark had allegedly disappeared), as well as the inquiries to Eric from Danielle. I read Danielle's livejournal. One mention of a filename "tmptest_attic," but really nowhere to implement it. I thought the story was good, but as someone posted earlier in this thread, there doesn't seem to be anywhere (as of yet) to go with this. The family (The Ellisons) seem to have background in computers so maybe in the future we'll get some kind of a web-site where that filename can be used. But from the looks of the livejournal, i don't think we'll be seeing much more from Dani-- it looks like she's gone the way of Mark Condry (interesting that she found his keys at The Ellison's house).

At any rate. I checked some of Dani's LJ user info. She has no friends, but she is friends of like 51 people. I only checked about ten of those friends' journals for mentions of this topic, and they all seemed to be short blurbs, nobody who really seems to know Dani as a person. No actual mention of her at all, really.

It seems like some kind of an ad for a movie or something.

It seems to me that Dani has more or less found the same fate as Mark. Since we haven't heard from Mark since his last communication to Eric was "THE DOOR IS OPEN." Dani's last communication was a simple poem that clearly showed something was different.

If this is infact an ARG, the only place we're going to get more communication is from Eric's site (www.dionaea-house.com).

but i could be wrong.

Eric also has a personal web-site (www.heisserer.com), but it doesn't really have much information on it, at least not from what i can see. It does mention this whole ordeal. Maybe someone can check it out.

I'd have to agree with you, Cyfre. As well, Eric has updated his page, stating:

Quote:
Lots of responses, I didn't expect this. Thank you for your support (and your technical notes). At this time I cannot involve and will not involve anyone else for a number of reasons. Please respect my decision on this matter. I will keep the contact information for the paranormal investigators, and I will continue to help those close to Mark as best I can. Please, no more phone calls. Connie is going out of her mind.

Thank you.

I'm not sure WHAT this means, truthfully. (I admit, I did call; I got the info on the site from WHOIS and got a voice-mail. Left a message.)

The more research i do, the more i think this is not an ARG. Eric Heisserer (owner of dionaea-house.com) is a screen writer in LA who recently sold a script entitled The Manifestant to Artisan Entertainment.

I'm an amateur screen writer myself (until i sell a script) and this site could very well be a writing outlet for him, a creative way to come up with an idea and kind of run with it for a bit.

In short, i think i'm going to stop bothering him!

Looks like someone didnt escape the HTML, so your browser would try to render it, much like if you made a html file and put <woohooatag> it wont show Smile

Guess not to read to much into it.

Looking into things...

I did a bit of checking around and I found the same information about him selling "The Manifestant" to artisan. There's an interview about it here

I'm sort of new to the whole ARG scene, but it seems a little odd that an ARG would infringe on what looks like a 'real' site. However, I also found his homepage which links back to this possible trailhead. I did a few lookups on the site and its registered to an Eric Heisserer who lives in Texas, however the IMDB shows nothing about him or his upcoming movie, but it seems like its so far in pre-production its barely even a glimmer in a producers eye.

As for his friend, Mark Condry, all I could find is a new faculty member at TCU.

I'll keep looking into it, maybe start asking a few questions, but I've got a feeling this is really a trailhead. Just one more thing I found, Dionaea Muscipula is the scientific name for Venus Flytrap....
