I'll prod at this. The endings for Tom Tooman and Holomove both left me dehydrated, confused, and upset. Mostly confused and upset.

Tooman just kinda... disappeared after almost a year. CBS had renewed interest in the game by posting a call for help to the Jericho message boards over at CBS.com, and as we seemed on the verge of this huge climax, the fuse went out. Things just stopped happening. We had one(maybe 2) unsolved puzzles, and were doing our best to keep up with the game(despite no character interaction at all). Overall, I liked the game, but it just left you thinking-- BUT WHO WAS PHONE?

Holomove... I loved this game from the gate. The amazing distribution of the trailhead, the months and years of backdated blog postings to build Nate as a character, the brilliant design for the Holomove.com site. The game flowed very well. We were seldom without something to do, or at least discuss. Then, when no one could make it to MIAMI on a 3 DAY NOTICE, the ending... fizzled. It was more a lack of ending. The PMs did a great job on this game- but unfortunately, I think the dedicated players will only remember the ending. Sad but true.

I can't really think of any great endings I've experienced. Most games I play are real grassroots stuff that tends to fizzle out or just baffle the hell out of you.

I was recently THOROUGHLY enjoying the Maureen Pickles thingy but it just randomly sort of stopped. I'd love to know who PMed that so I could find out what was going on. It really was a lot of fun for some reason. Just simple and enjoyable and slightly silly.

Gosh, I really think 99% of games I've ever played have never made it to the end, so I can't really comment here. I like a clear "it's over. you did it. Thankyou" kind of thing. Nicely wrapped up, nothing spectacular just, yeah.

That doesn't seem too constructive or make much sense, because the campaign didn't end right when the film was released in theaters, and that says nothing about the mechanism that makes it seem to have failed to you.

I don't like the XBox for various reasons, but that doesn't mean Halo ARGs all suck. Wink

I pretty much agree with AidanHM. PXC S1 had a great ending: fitting the bits of information together to work out the location, the rush for people to go out and get digging, then the wait for confirmation that the prize HAD been claimed, and finding out who was the lucky blighter. The community that built up around the game made it all feel extra special to be part of it at the close of the season, and it was nice that even with a huge prize in sight, people still worked together rather than clamming up.

And yes, the PXC S2 promising build up and then long drawn out fizzle into nothing (but with just a faint smidgen of a hope that it might be back some time) really really sucked.

I also enjoyed the end of the Amy Greenford (Jasper Fforde novel launch) one. Admittedly that's partly because I got sent extra swag, but also because it was fun spending a day running around Swindon chasing characters from books that I love Very Happy

My worst ending would have to be the Cloverfield one, many say it wasn't even an ARG, but still, it was BELOW the level of Cliffhanger, it just STOPPED, there was supposed to be more I guess, like someone named Alice was supposed to contact somebody, psh, never happened. If they do continue it, I hope they do, they need to be more put together with it.

Finding Cedar Rapids...cause it hasn't really ended. We thought it did when the main character died, but there wasn't really an "ending". Now the PM occasionally logs onto AIM and has a brief chat with a player as a character. That's really about it and it's lame. It's like he doesn't want to admit the game has imploded so he keeps stringing a few new players along as most of the old ones have abandoned it. It's too bad because it was a great game with an interesting story and excellent production quality. I'd be happy to play if it came back in full swing again, but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen.

It seems like an age ago, but for me Ares Station was a great ending. In the final build up we were given the aim of trying to disrupt the activities on the spacestation. We knew that they were doing a lot of experiments aboard the station, so we used this to our advantage. Amongst other things we released the monkey test subjects and blasted a high pitch siren throughout the comm system. When the game finally wound up they released a number of audio clips. Each was from a different character, each in a seperate area of the station. Throughout the audio files we heard our plans being activated in the background as the story played out. It really wound up the game well and made you feel like you had an active part in developing it!
