Team Wellington, could you take a picture of the dots/holes/whatever-they-are surrounding the ring as well, so one might try a Braille reading? (Or find someone able to read Braille and ask that person to try and read it for you!)

Great work, but still many questions?

So in which gallery was it finally found? Pop Up?
Was there a ring keeper? How does he/she reacted to the password?

I hope we get a report about all - or did I just missed it?

No report yet, unless one has been given on via IRC. And Team Wellington is probably fast asleep at the moment ...

I think it was Ariock who mentioned this morning on IRC that, according to the tax records featured in Eli's podcast, the rings were all of the same size ? It might therefore not be possible to fit the rings together the way they fit in the trailers.

Thanks, I forgot it when I wrote my post.

So an arc of about one fourth of this blue ring will be used to make the sixth ring. How will the text be devided and which part will be close to the hole for the axis?

Hey,
I hope June and Mr.Judkins don't mind me jumping in here and answering a few questions seeing as this was their work!

I tagged along with them this afternoon. It was at Pop Up. The owner knew what we there for because we walked in and spotted the ring straight away and started talking about it. I thought it was going to be small, so I was probably acting the most surprised! The guy was really nice about it- Mr.Judkins missed the word 'the' from the password phrase and I think he acted a bit suspicious about that! He was genuinely interested and hadn't seen the Lost Ring site, so June gave him the URL.

June said she is making a rubbing of the ring's interior, which includes the braille, and she will scan it.
From holding onto the ring briefly it seemed very solidly welded together, so it seems hard to imagine there will be any disassembly of it to take parts for a sixth, but I could be wrong!

Thanks for jumping in.
Password phrase? I think I missed again something. I thought the password was "Sphinx".

Hello again all - so cold I can't sleep, so I'm refilling hot water bottles.

The pickup was made from Popup Gallery, 57 Ghuznee Street, Wellington.

The complete password the Gallery Manager/Ring Keeper was given was "The Sphinx" - and he wasn't sure how exact it had to be. But he decided that "Sphinx" was surely close enough, thank goodness.

He played it very cool when we came in and were all agape at the ring - I was expecting something 38cm wide, but was still blown away by it's sheer size and style too. We explained to him that we were here to collect it, and had the password. "If you do indeed have the password," he replied with raised eyebrow, "You can take it away." Once it was clear we were "The Transporter" he was looking for, things warmed up quickly.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Turns out it only arrived yesterday, but he had been approached about assisting with an international game months ago. He had a contract from AKQA, instructions as to what to do with the Ring and how it was to be released - but no actual information about the game, or even links to the main site.

If you missed it in my last post (dominated by the giant photo) here is the link to the full gallery of photos.

We'll work on the rubbing or transcribing of the "braille" soon - it looks like the same pattern simply repeats - one on each side.

All in all a very awesome and incredibly weird thing to have in our lounge!

If the rings are to be assembled to a concentric something like shown in the trailer, I wonder where to place the blue ring: Close to the centre? But how big will the outer ones be, then?

EDIT:
I wonder whether that pattern of little holes on both sides of the inscription means anything as well. Braille?

Holy cow. That thing is beautiful. It must have taken a lot of work to create!

Note that there are 27 segments, and that they are coloured blue on the inside.
I assume the other rings will be red, yellow, green and black to match the Olympic colours.

I would expect so, and then we can use those colours to figure out what segments are needed by using the idea that sapagoo figured out from chapter 27 of the Codex (link)!

Can I post all this on the Diego's forum? The spanish-speakers don't visit uF too much and they depend on the IG forums... do you mind if I post the story and the photos?

Tricky questions. Should Theo know the ring is in our hands? Maybe you should ask Eli first.

Perhaps you should wait a little bit, to see how Ariadne reacts on her blog. It should be up to the PMs to spread the news if they are intended to be spread. BTW. Does Ariadne/Eli/James know about our success?

Yes - we emailed all three of them "last night" (NZ time), but no replies yet...

I agree that although this is really huge info we should hold back to find out whether they want it out in the public arena. If TheO find out we've got one of the rings, it may become much harder for us to get the other four...

Great job, June and Mr. Judkins!
That's a damn big ring, though....

A thought just occurred to me.
If the curator at the museum you guys were at is IG, could he possibly be the 'ringkeeper' James' message was referring to in the English bit at the end?
Of course, if he's not IG, he might not know it at all.
So does he know anything about this?
