Looking for someone who's speaking the language. I have an Armenian friend, but he's offline at the moment.

My friend who told me she thinks it is Armenian lives with Armenian speakers, who are all apparently to busy and/ or cranky to help out at the moment. Laughing

We're cursed Laughing Updating the languages list : Polish has been ruled out by another friend of mine.

EDIT : We might have hit the nail on the head ! Message from an Armenian friend of mine follows.

Quote:
It's a crappy recording, but it's in Armenian except for the end which is in English.

There are a lot of numbers, and it might sound like he is talking about verses from the bible. Maybe the book of Joseph, second verse. He also says numbers 11, 16, 24, 27, and 82 about books (of the bible? I'm not sure).

I'd have my dad translate it for me, if he were home. Try and find a second opinion on this, since it's ambiguous whether or not he was referring to the bible.

Good luck!

Not a good translation at all, but at least confirms the language we were suspecting ! Now to find a more reliable translation.

Very Happy Any of the more common Slavic languages would have been recognised earlier, I guess. And Polish sounds different - the sounds, the prosody ...

I wonder where this clue will lead us. The Dutch agent has led us to "Australia" resp. New Zealand. Will the continent the messages point to always differ from a language's home continent? Armenia probably counts to Asia, which would leave Africa, America and Europe.

No, the language in the first voice file was not from Australia.

EDIT: I misunderstood Canzonett's post. Very sorry.

And here's what my friend with an Armenian friend had to say:
Quote:
Apparently it's some weird dialect and he can't understand it. The country is the size of Rhode Island but they have fifty different dialects.

Suddenly ! Three Armenian Skype users appear !

Skype user Tatyana wrote:
- It's definitely Armenian ;
- The Armenian part starts mid-sentence ;
- It mentions a "location in a labyrinth"
- "They are trying to place some ring"
- She thinks she heard the name of a town...Madrid !
- "The entrance to the labyrinth is near the Museum of National Science"
- "The previous location seem 11 stage (we figured out later she meant "stadia")
- The message also says "Then I move 21.76 (or 21.74 ?) stadia ring to ??12 position"
- "And there is a number 26.138 and the ring have to be moved to upper point of the external path"
-"i can listen the different words..."from left to right 26.183 stadia...end to end..."

Skype user Eva wrote:
- "The previous place of the ring was stage 86.44"
- "That is the position of 11"
- "that is already the position of 11( .....?) from the point of number 3"
- "From there i moved the ring 21.76 stadia to the position (?????) 12"
- "The ring is now successfully placed on the position 7"
- On the top of the most external path of (Aprinthos?)"
- "Where the entrance to labyrinth is, there you find the National Museum of Science"
- "...as well as the beginning of the labyrinth from the point "athedathin" --------???????"
- "When you finish the circle/ring, for the next step before moving you should give the password to the master of the ring/circle"
- "From there i moved the ring 21.76 stadia to the position (????? 00:24 - 00:25 tasnerku) 12" (she thinks that ??? might be Aris or Ares)

That's all for now !

A complete transcript would be helpful, so we could figure out the missing omphalos directions ...

So, the first sentence is not Armenian? I wonder if that's just like the other message that says "This is Theo agent Devoldevaarg (?) with a report about the transport of La Sesa Ringo tring (?) number one"

So it would say something like This is Theo Agent Joseph(?) with a report about the transport of La Sesa Ringo ring number two"

If that sentence is in Esperanto, it would confuse my friend's friend about the dialect, because I forgot to mention that Embarassed "La Sesa Ringo" doesn't need translation.
With words like omphalos and stadia and names of Greek gods thrown in there, no wonder this isn't easy for someone who isn't involved to understand.

"Sesa" = "sixth", so this ring would probably be
"La kvina ringo" (5th)
"La kvara ringo" (4th)
"La tria ringo" (3rd)
"La dua ringo" (2nd)
"La unua ringo" (1st)

The Armenian ladies didn't say it was not Armenian - they just said the message seemed to start in the middle of the first sentence.

They had the worst time understanding what was said on the tape - mostly because of the recording's quality - ergo the hard time getting a complete transcript.

Phew... I have nothing to offer as to narrowing down this location, but I wanted to throw in my thanks for tracking down people who were willing to translate! Smile

Sorry to correct you, but La Sesa Ringo is just another name for the whole sculpture aka The Lost Rings. So "La Sesa Ringo ring number one" and "La Sesa Ringo ring number two" are correct.
