I can't be sure of that. Supposedly surfergirl is some kind of bigwig at playstation.com, and the information was also supposedly hacked from her account. However, I think there's a very large possibility that it's fake and was released to send people's thoughts in the wrong direction. You never know though.

I flipped through the Gamepro that had the ad in it last night, and I think I can shed some light on the subject.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Hale has strange eyes because he is still infected with the virus, and his resistance is getting weaker, the game dev hinted that Hale will go through some sort of metamorphisis because of this.

Hale will go through the game with a group of guys called Echo who have the resistance like Hale, probably the members of Project Abraham and the guys in the picture on the Blackout site, which, according to the article, is in Iceland.

On another note, did anyone send away for the radio thing in the Gamepro foldout.

Awesome! Thanks. And yeah, I did and I believe some others did as well. I sent it express so I know it got there this Monday, but I have no idea how long it may take to get something back if something is in fact sent.

today is the 11th, weren't we expecting something to happen today?

EDIT: Just some speculation. You know how the first video led us to the black out site. Maybe the second video and the letter are supposed to lead us to another site. There is a sound, like an alarm at the end of the second video. Maybe that means something.

What do you guys think?

EDIT2: also when you read the letter. It says that we have to wait for a couple of days. It also says to assess the 6 remaining candidates maybe this means something. also it is telling us to familiarize ourselves with base procedures.

The letter is addressed to Cassie not us Wink

Also, I'm assuming that although we didn't find it until the 3rd, the projectabraham site has probably been out since the 1st since the puzzle leading to it came out then. That would mean that the 2nd video came out exactly one week later. Maybe we'll be getting a video once a week? (If that's the case, the next one will be out Tuesday the 15th.)

Hi all Smile

It's been a while since I seriously participated in an ARG (been working 60 hour weeks), but since I'm currently jobless, own a ps3, enjoy RFoM, and got on board with this early, you may see more of me here.

I've been following this thread for a few days, and it seems like everything thus far has been covered. I have just a few things to add:

It was mentioned that the bulk of the gameplay will take place over 12 weeks. Well, RFoM2 is slated for release on Nov. 1st, 2008. That's exactly 16 weeks from now, so I imagine things will ramp up quickly.

E3 was mentioned, but as people said it's more of an industry event. However, Comic-Con is coming up in 2 weeks. Sony always has a huge presence there, and SCEA will be exhibiting. I imagine they'll be pushing the PS3 hard, and RFoM is a big draw for the system. I'll be there, so will report back if anything game-related takes place.

I replied to the radio ad this week, and live about an hour from Pasadena, so if they respond I should get it quickly.

Regarding the game thus far, my speculation is consistent with what's already been said. These are obviously events leading up to the first RFoM. The photo is of the men being "tested" upon, but I'm not certain one of them is Hale. It's more likely than not, as he's the game's protagonist, but it doesn't seem to fit in with his backstory from the first game (he killed nearly his entire squad in a training exercise gone wrong, was himself critically injured, and had to go through extensive operations and therapy in a Montana Army facility before being returned to active duty and sent to Europe). That doesn't mean they can't work new elements into his story, though. There's always a way.

Because Cassie is asked to psychologically "assess the remaining six candidates" in what is described as an "experiment", I imagine they aren't just guinea pigs in an attempt to find a cure. Super-soldiers seems most likely.

This is taking place in Alaska, which is a quick hop over the Bering Straight to Russia, where the Chimera outbreak began. The letter made a point to mention the "colder than normal" Alaskan winter... the Chimera control weather patterns, making things colder in order to maintain their body temperatures. So it's likely the Chimera are entering, or are already in, Alaska.

Did anyone else think it odd that Cassie referred to the situation in Europe as "the influenza"? That's how the outbreak was explained in American propaganda... is she not aware of exactly what's going on?

Alright, enough for now. I hope this does end up as a full-blown game, and look forward to playing along with you all Smile

nothing from Intelligence here. Seems they are just taking things reeeally slow right now, more just attracting players for the big show. I'm with PostLarval here, give them a few weeks and I bet we will start getting some real information (and e-mails Wink )

I just kind of assumed that she was using the term as some sort of internal lingo for the Chimera Virus because, lets face it, if they have to do this 'testing' in some top-secret lab in Alaska, they probably are trying to keep this whole 'outbreak' thing on the DL, yeah?

True, could just be internal lingo. Though if it's meant to keep things on the DL, it's more likely meant for us than for the in-game characters. You won't build much suspense if you announce right from the start that the "situation in Europe" is an all-out alien invasion involving a virus that causes humans to mutate into creatures called "Chimera". Smile

Hell, we need a little foreplay before things start getting dirty...

Hey everyone it's been forever since i've logged on and played a game in the 1st stages. Last game i played all the way through was Sector7, and i dabbled in TDK and Cloverfield but nothing major.

ANYWAYS, my question is: How do i send the thing in the gamepro foldout? Do i cut it out and mail it or am i supposed to write it myself?

Again thanks and it's exciting to play again

I decided it would be better to send in the cut-out. For the sake of 'realism'. But, not wanting to ruin the original, I scanned the page and then cut the add from that. I wrote my information on the back.

When a person is infected with the Chimeran virus, they go into a comatose state. So Cassie and the doctor thought he was dead but really he was changing into a chimera?

Yes and no.

In the first Resistance, The infected, in time, grew into a pupa-like stage where their bodies were so malleable that multiple bodies could be combined to make certain strains of Chimera, so jumping from a to c without the pupa-stage b is unlikely.

What I think is happening there is that the candidate became some sort of mix between the Chimera and Human: perhaps having Chimeran traits but possessing an overall human mind. I say "mind" because it appears that Hale in the first Resistance was connected to a hive-mind which gave him insight on how to disable the Chimera in england.

Which is why I think Cassise is needed: to assess the mental state of the soldier to see if they are showing a split-personality or to see if it's possible to "access" the Human side or something like that.

My offical speculation to throw into the ring is that the seven people in the picture were all subjects in this experiment. All but Hale died due to complications and the videos we're seeing are of the failures. We probably haven't seen any of Hale as of yet. Now put that in your pipes and smoke it.

ETA: This was probably speculated somewhere on these 24 pages or elsewhere. I'm just too damn lazy right now to check.

Well, I don't think it's a failure yet because the person didn't die, but it might be a failure if they can't access the human side of the candidate.

I also don't think Hale is one of them myself... as the seven in the photo could indicate Hale and seven more people which makes eight for the co-op... but since Hale likely won't be in the co-op, I think these particular seven will be with Hale in the single player, and eight more people will be in the co-op, with a different story.

I think it's a little of both, but mostly the first one. Super-soldiers that will fall to the Chimera virus are useless, so the ability to resist the effects of the virus is essential. I think the cure was the first objective, but the effects may be a desired side-effect of the treatement... but if they were trying to make super-soldiers, the plot-twists will be HUGE.

She isn't: remember in the letter it said she was the new psychiatric consult.
