Bullerman.net Well, since the old FCR thread got archived and this isn't really "Findings Cedar Rapids" anymore, I thought I'd start a new thread here.
Don't worry if you don't know what happened in the previous game, I don't think much applies. So far all we have is a website... http://www.bullerman.net
On the main page is a photo titled "matter" and is of a galaxy cluster named 'Abell 1689'. Mr. Toasty found the original image here . The image also what appears to be F C R near the middle.
There also is a short video in which the word "baryonic" appears near the bottom right of the screen shortly about halfway through.
Hidden text on the page says "(10)(2) and (13)(1)" and also near the bottom is "U+002F Zwicky" which (once again) Mr. Toasty figured was unicode? for /zwicky. When you add this to the url, it takes you to a user/pass login for the site.
This is where we currently are at and seem to be stuck. I figure a new thread in N&R is warranted since this seems to be a whole new game and maybe some fresh eyes will help us progress.

In the source code before the unicode clue:
(I need my eyes checked!
At the bottom of the page:
"ive noticed a few more hits on the site...i don't know where to start...ask me. its getting dark."
Do the FCR fellows know who "he" is and how to "ask" him, or is this what we do once we gain access?
Baryonic is an adjective form of Baryon, which is a particle made of three quarks. There are multiple families of quarks, each with a particle and antiparticle type, so there are multiple ways to combine them into various particles. Examples are neutrons and protons. This is quantum particle theory.
Also the reference to "dark matter" is interesting given the pic.
The if you look at the visible matter of the galaxy, the centre of gravity is way off where it is. One of the theories that physicists have come up with is that there is dark matter (matter which is very dense and heavy, but emits no photonic energy - at least none we can detect). Physicists are able to predict where these deposits would be.
When he mentions "it is getting dark"....perhaps this is a reference to dark matter, further, the dark matter might be "baryonic"... ie made up of quarks.

If there's someone here who played FCR, could someone give a brief overview of the storyline? What was going on in the other game?

Well, I could point you out to the 101 page behemoth of a trailhead, but that wouldn't help.... so I'll do my best from memory as this has been on a haitus for a long while.....
Jeff worked as an engineer for some part of the defense industry and recently started feeling ill. He was approached by some men who gave him a pill and was told to take it to stay alive. The story unfolds as Jeff is led around the area to collect more pills while Steve does video with a weird ass camera.
Eventually we learn that the camera is some sinister device that is causing jeff's "illness" and the videographer that has been running around with Jeff - Steve - has been dead for almost a whole year. After Jeff is told about our evidence of Steve's death, Jeff gets kidnapped and held in a basement and forced to work on this camera.
Jeff finally broke under the stress and killed himself in that locked room.
There are some names and more details that go along with the story, but I don't wanna get people confused unless it's vital to this continuation.
there is a wiki... http://crfindings.wetpaint.com/thread/1076144/Timeline
From this point on, I think we're dealing with the "entity" that kidnapped Jeff and forced him to work on this mysterious camera.

Wow, that sounds pretty darn cool! Like a good X-Files episode. And thanks for that Natas, that other thread is definitely a little daunting to try to get into.
I messed around with some password attempts for the login but no go. So, I guess we have to wait for some further contact? Or maybe, if Jeff is dead and Zwicky has taken over the Bullerman site, maybe s/he's also taken over whatever means there was of contacting Jeff? If that made any sense, guess it's time for me to go do a little more catching up.
Edit : I was doing a little research on Wikipedia; if the glowing bit in the video is supposed to be dark matter then from what I can tell, it should be nonbaryonic not baryonic. Baryonic dark matter is non luminous. Whereas nonbaryonic dark matter apparently can be. {"If the particles of which it is composed are supersymmetric, they can undergo annihilation interactions with themselves resulting in observable by-products such as photons."}

Interesting that you mention Wikipedia, this is what is there:
Quote:
The first person to provide evidence and infer the existence of a phenomenon that has come to be called "dark matter" was Swiss astrophysicist Fritz Zwicky , of the California Institute of Technology in 1933.[8] He applied the virial theorem to the Coma cluster of galaxies and obtained evidence of unseen mass. Zwicky estimated the cluster's total mass based on the motions of galaxies near its edge and compared that estimate to one based on the number of galaxies and total brightness of the cluster. He found that there was about 400 times more estimated mass than was visually observable. The gravity of the visible galaxies in the cluster would be far too small for such fast orbits, so something extra was required. This is known as the "missing mass problem". Based on these conclusions, Zwicky inferred that there must be some non-visible form of matter which would provide enough of the mass and gravity to hold the cluster together.
Recognise the name?
ETA:
If there are any physicists around, please correct me!
As far as I understand it, the matter seen in the video would have to be baryonic because of the cohesion in evidence. The difficult thing to explain is why it is visible if it is indeed dark matter. If it is non-baryonic and undergoing annihilation, it would not be cohesive and would not have lasted so long...Plus, annihilation in a sphere that size would be a cataclysmic disaster.

Re: Bullerman.net Hey Natas, LTNS
Nice to see something coming out of the start with FCR.
The PM defiantly did a good job making the game interesting while we played, so I look forward to seeing what they have in store this time
Just got back on this site today, I'll have to take a look at it.
On a side note.. remember the PM...
BACKUP THOSE FiLES!
(PM has a tendency to take down/edit files, so if we don't have an archive we will potentially lose information)

As I stated before, I'm in if this actually takes off. (Also no longer a PM).

Lies! all lies!
Good to see you back too Dregyn
MAYBE with luck we can figure out what we are supposed to do here.
I mean it's been like 2 years and randomly the site is back and active?

Good to see he's back to his old tricks Salut everyone! Great to see all the old FCR guys (On that same note, it's also good to see PM back)...
I did some research on the (10)(2) and (13)(1). Thank god I'm in Algebra, cause that's what made me think of two seperate math equations, 10 x 2 and 13 x1, which makes 20 and 13. This led me to search 'Zwicky 2013', and found this interesting article on Yahoo! questions about dark matter: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070711052144AAjLDsW
In it, I found that something known as the James Webb Space Telescope will be launched in 2013 to confirm some studies on Dark Matter. This may or may not be the reason for the numbers, but I figured I'd take a stab at it.
What's with all the inactivity?

As of now, no Twitter yet, but you'd be suprised how many people have Zwicky as their last name

So is this an ARG for some kind of physics/space-related game, then? Dead space 3, perhaps? Also, um, count me in if it's still going on.
