Scholarship Contest

I've been thinking over what our next move to be, and I think we are being pushed to try and get the Scholarship. With that in mind I've put the info for the scholarship up on the wiki HERE.

EDIT: Also the wiki is in desperate need of updating. We have 20 pages already in this thread, and I'm sure we are missing leads we could be tracking down because we don't have it organized. Please help out if you can! (Here's some Brownie points to get you started Very Happy )

More Stories from Hernando

I chatted again w/ Hernando on facebook asking about Ferdinand and told him about the email w/ the mp3s. And here's a story he told me...
Quote:

well is just that this is just too weird, like that old man in galveston
some old man that was at the beach when i visited a couple days ago
he was talking crazy talk
i dunno, he was homeless. very old
like ancient
he talked about stories his father told him
of how galveston used to be
before the hurracaine

let me get an aspirin and ill tell you the story. one sec

apparently back in the days of old galveston
you know, that island in texas
well it used to be a very important port, today is a big spring break place
anyhow the old man heard from his father that the town wasnt doing very well.
it wasnt growing, and the economy was slowing down or something
well one day one man came with a book or something
and started secret meetings
I dont remember the rest, but the town started to pick up and became one of the most prosperous towns in the united states. but apparently things went on in the dark, strange things. he said that some people were
offered to the sea

oh i dunno what book it was
or if was a book at all, he hinted towards it
but not sure, might have been something else.

these people were very powerful, they had secret meetings in what was called the beach hotel. rumors said that they did sacrifises and some weird stuff
well something went wrong
and in 1898 the place was misteriously burned down completely
and strange things started to happen again.
bad things

after the fire, cattle started to dissapear

and then people, starting with homeless people
i dont remember the number he said
60?
lots of people were turning missing
and everyone turned on the secret society
who apparently were going to do something big. one of their annual festivals or days of prayer worship
whatever is called
a week later the hurracane struck
and everything was washed away
no evidence was ever found of the cult.
or anything

i found a link

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beach_Hotel

supposedly it was built to house the secret rites and stuff

>_> that was some old crazy man

but cool story SmileSmile

well here is the big twist the old man told me before he passed out from drinking

apparently some of this secret society survived and eventually relocated in New orleans

and he hinted of the similar events that happened there
with that other hurracaine

>_> goosebumps!

About trying to contact Ferdinand:
Quote:

oh, you ll have as much luck as me.
ask sofia, i think she got along better with him'

oh i dunno, somehow we all felt that he didnt have the dreams
but made them up
i dont understand why

i stoped having [the dreams] them when i went there
well
for the most part
like tonight i almost got them again
they went away, but got that buzz sound
the hum

yes [the other 3 had the same dreams before the trip]
i dont think ferdinand did though

[I said...don't you think thats a big coicidence that all of the winners had the same dreams]
9:36pmHernando

yeah ive wondered about that

[Ferdinand] i think hes from Austria
i dunno, very quiet
something about him, i dunno

you know, i dont remember [what he did to win the scholarship], i dont think he ever told me. he hardly spoke to me. when he did, and it wasnt much, it was to the russian girl

wow, some weird stuff on ferdinands pictures
he is a creapy fello!
i am not going to mess with him...
one thing i do know
he can hack me back to the stone age
i think he is [a hacker]

i think he got into the EG server in japan

he had his laptop
i ignored it and went away, i didnt want to get in trouble
the way he stares at you
you cant stand it

nice pick for a german corp

I'm not going to even try to attached the log. Facebook chat is impossible to save! I only have these bits cause I was copying and pasting as we chatted. The other important things are that he used to go out with Jo while they were in Japan. And he's back in Spain and put a new pic up on facebook.

(He also asked what a PastryBot is LOL and he wanted to know my eye color so showed him the pic I used for that new eye ARG so now he also has a pic of his eye up on facebook.)

Joanna told me this a few days ago when I mentioned Hernando as an intro. Her response was kind of funny, something along the lines of "eww, you were talking to him?"

Oh and Pancito, that was the Paul Ferdinand I messaged, still no response or acceptance of my friend request.

Got an mail in Livejurnal from Haru...something aka Kuro...something Very Happy

I asked if Eklipse has jobs for offer and told him, that i have a doctor in neuro sciense and a medical education. So the answer gives more secure about what they make in the japanese station:

Guten Morgen,

the field of activity of Global Eklipse you can find on the Eklipse websaito. More is nothing and I am not autorized tell more.

You are welcome to Eklipse, and you can ask them for a job. Medical education is pretty good, we need people in our research stations. And neuro sciense are pretty important here in our Japanese station.

Perhaps, the best way is if you submit your entry to contest - so Eklipse Global can see your mind reflexion in your submission and perhaps they could ask you for opportunity.

I wish luck you
KT

EDIT: Eklipse send over Twitter a message, that there is a webpage for the contest: http://eklipsters.com

Another Conversation with Hernando

Okay, just chatted with Hernando on FB.
Quote:
(echoPath): did you see any squid that were alive while you were in japan?
or maybe some octupus?

(Hernando): mmmh... there was a painting

but thats all

(echoPath): at the EG building?

(Hernando): yeah
it was very abstract
like a big dead octopus
well there were lots of paintings
some about weird looking dog things
apparently they were from the same artist
they were like humanoid dog things
japanese people have weird taste
i did ask about the painter, since they were from the same one
some painter from boston
richard something
from the 20s

Then he said he had to get the phone. A couple minutes later he told me he had to go because he had had some brain scans done and the doctor wanted to discuss the results in private. I asked him to keep in touch.

Does anyone know anything about an abstract painter named Richard something from the '20s? I'm not having much success with google.

My guess would be Richard Upton Pickman

Quote:
"Pickman's Model" is a short story by H. P. Lovecraft, written in September 1926 and first published in the October 1927 issue of Weird Tales. It was adapted for television in 1972 as an episode of the Night Gallery anthology series.

.../...

Pickman is depicted as a renowned Boston painter notorious for his ghoulish works. His great-great-great-great-grandmother was hanged by Cotton Mather during the Salem witch trials of 1692. ("Pickman" and "Upton" are, in actuality, old Salem names.[4]) In 1926, Pickman vanished from his home--a date only given in Lovecraft's "History of the Necronomicon". Pickman reappears as a ghoul in The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath (1926) and aids Randolph Carter in his journeys.

I'm having trouble finding an image of Pickman's painting with the octopus that Hernando described. Anyone else give it a shot? Also, keep your eye out for the one with the dog-man.

If it is Pickman he is referring to, as far as I can tell Pickman is a fictional character in Lovecraft's writings. The drawings don't physically exist as far as I can imagine.

If they are documented drawings in "Pickman's Model", I don't know.

Here is the complete text of "Pickman's Model", I believe.

References to the dog... thing:

Quote:
There was one thing called 'The Lesson'- Heaven pity me, that I ever saw it! Listen- can you fancy a squatting circle of nameless dog-like things in a churchyard teaching a small child how to feed like themselves? The price of a changeling, I suppose- you know the old myth about how the weird people leave their spawn in cradles in exchange for the human babes they steal. Pickman was showing what happens to those stolen babes- how they grow up- and then I began to see a hideous relationship in the faces of the human and non-human figures. He was, in all his gradations of morbidity between the frankly non-human and the degradedly human, establishing a sardonic linkage and evolution. The dog-things were developed from mortals!

.../...

It was a colossal and nameless blasphemy with glaring red eyes, and it held in bony claws a thing that had been a man, gnawing at the head as a child nibbles at a stick of candy. Its position was a kind of crouch, and as one looked one felt that at any moment it might drop its present prey and seek a juicier morsel. But damn it all, it wasn't even the fiendish subject that made it such an immortal fountain- head of all panic- not that, nor the dog face with its pointed ears, bloodshot eyes, flat nose, and drooling lips. It wasn't the scaly claws nor the mould-caked body nor the half-hooved feet- none of these, though any one of them might well have driven an excitable man to madness.

Message from Sonia

I sent Sonia/Sofia a message asking about Paul and got this back...

Quote:
Re: Paul...

Oh, my email dosn't work?
Weird... have you mailed to sonia.nadezhdaSPLATgooglemail.com ?
It should work. Or just give your email, I will reach you Smile

Anyway, Paul is kinda shy guy. Although he is great with all that communications 2.0, he isn't such communicative. But he seems to change, 'cause he noticed already some friends requests (look at my wall, lol), so I think, he will add you too.

I can say im about you, if you want.
greetings
Sonia
