Just spoke to cubicgarden...
So HE'S FOUND IT... only problem is that he had a misshap with the password... first his laptop ran out of power while he was retrieving it, and then when he called he got some one else to give it to him... he miss-pronounced it... Long story short the gallery owner now thinks he's an imposter.
Any one have any ideas?
He's standing outside the store now... apparently she's e-mailed some one to get clarification on whether to release it to him... Just thought I'd keep you all up to speed and see if any one can rustle up a solution... He has taken some pics but apparently the Ring is in a glass display case so he's having a hard time getting clean shots of everything...
Any one got an idea...lol

Ring 3 Found

I assumed once I ask about the ring, the password would then be needed - which I have as - thermantia.

That sounds right. Theo is supposed to be hiding the ring "in plain sight." You should be able to see the ring displayed without giving the "ringkeeper" the password. Once you find the ring, then you will need the password for the "ringkeeper" to give you the ring (don't forget to get the shipping box).

I've been helping offline 'til now... cubicgarden's found the ring (@ Richard Goodall I think) - yay!

However we may have a problem, as he may have quoted the password incorrectly while on the phone to me to get it, and I believe the ringkeeper is declining to release it as he only quoted 'thermantia' (spelling it out) correctly the second time...

Meant to post this yesterday, but we did change the voicemail and delete the original message.

James wrote:
Great! That sounded perfect! Where does it lead?

I've deleted the old one. I hope that they don't notice before it's too late!!!

So... this could be an issue, if they get the email and then notice the voicemail is different...

We're trying to rouse some Mancunians now! Are there any people you or cubicgarden can ask to come down? Someone you pull off the street, even?

We can't let the ring fall into the wrong hands!

OK, we need some smoke grenades, sixty feet of rope and a pack of chewing gum...

/facepalm

Do NOT just get someone you "pull off the street"! I repeat... DO NOT. It has to be someone you confide in that won't make things worse.

Not to worry, chippy has found someone in Manchester to run over, armed with the correct password.

As a beekeeper, I'm prepared for any eventuality. There's even a cyanide capsule in one of my molars.

And as far as I know, cubicgarden wasn't just pulled off the street. He's a lurker who probably got a little flustered in person asking the gallery owner for the ring.

Yep, a friend of mine is heading over to high street for a peek. He knows cubicgarden too (manchester tech scene) - so will be on the look out for him too! The galleries are likely to shut in 20 minutes, however....
edits: he has found the location too. (the underground gallery) - and is calling me back, after saying password etc... so we'll see.
No sign of cubicgarden yet though, he may well be around nearby.

update, my manchester friend went to the gallery, entered it, and said the password, however, he also was denied. He met up with cubicgarden too. Full update I'm sure will follow later from cubicgarden. They gave some information to help next attempt. In the meantime good work trying!
I can go over tomorrow morning if possible. Cubicgarden, ive pm'd phone number if you want to meet up before I go in?

I emailed Eli and James to see what we should do (and if we needed all the rings, or if photos were okay), and here's what James said:

James wrote:
Hi Laura,

Thanks for your email. I think that it is imperative that we get a hold of every ring! We know there's something inscribed in them, so we need to make sure that we have ample time to fully study them.

I'm sorry to hear that the first pickup attempt didn't go well. I'm convinced that Theo knows that something is up, but while they haven't altered their strategy yet, they're clearly being much more wary of people posing as Official Transporters.

From what I've understood so far, the person should arrive alone, declare themselves to be the ring transporter, and then give the password when asked for it.

Especially since we've now tried twice, the next person must show full confidence in their task. It seems that the galleries don't know who the transporter will be, but they will suspect anyone acting irregularly.

Good luck to you, and tell whomever picks it up good luck to them as well. I hope we'll have the ring tomorrow night!

Sincerely,
James Mutters

The bolded part is directly from the email, as well.

Right to clairfy, I did say the word slightly differently the first time (hell i have a southern accent). But I did spell it out for the lady and she did say it was correct. But she didn't like the fact I was on the phone with Emilicon at the time and that I had been hanging around the gallery for 5mins, while she was serving customers. Next time I'll be less forgiven Sad

The woman wrote a email to someone (expect the PMs) explaining that I said things wrong or something and maybe made me sound very dodgy. So when they wrote back they said don't give me it.

I think it boils down to the fact she wasn't expecting someone like me to turn up and claim the ring. In actually fact, she kept over and over saying "this is a expensive piece of art you do know that?"

So yep I don't know anyone who could collect the art but whoever does needs to be claim to be the "official ring collector" and said THERMANTIA in exactly the way she wants to hear it. It might even be worth just spelling it from the start so theres no mistake on either end. I was going to send in some random strangers tomorrow, but if we can get a little group to meet next door at the cafe, we could prepare our master plans.

By the way shall I upload the photos I have?

First, yes, please!

Second, southern accent? U.S.?

Third, gah. Sorry for all the frustration. I hope this works out.

First, thanks for your great work. It must be a strange experience finding the ring and than not getting it.

Photos? Of course!

Hi Laura,

I'm sure that there's no way for me to retrieve the CCTV footage from the gallery, though I definitely wish we could get it!

As for pronunciation, I've always thought of it as "thur-man-tee-uh", but that's just my perspective. It sounds to me like the owner was more concerned that the person seemed to be taking cues from someone else via their mobile, and then he was also mispronouncing it.

As long as Tim seems like he knows what he's doing, I have confidence that it will work out. I guess we're at the shop keeper's mercy though.

Good luck again!

Eli Hunt wrote:
Hello Laura,

I concur with James.

I have high confidence in your password solution. However, I am not so
confident that our allies have presented themselves as true Theo
transporters yet.

I would encourage our next interloper to act with extreme confidence,
to go without notes of any kind, to avoid taking cues from others in a
remote environment, and to avoid doing anything else that would
suggest something is amiss.

I know we can secure this ring for our team. We are unlike the other
agonothetai teams. 2008 is different.

Sincerely yours,

Eli Hunt
