Launch

Jane just posted that the launch will be sometime tonight. Has anyone heard anything more specific?

I hope I can say: "I'm in", since I am really overwhelmed by work. But the game looks cool and creative, so I'm in Smile

I'm amazed - the game has like 500 players at the minute and there's little to no buzz in this thread?

overload

This is not getting off to a great start for me. There was a password glitch last night. Somehow I managed to register twice. I cannot find a way to delete one of the profiles. Gah! It also seems to me that there should be some way of sorting through all of the new blogs that have popped up.

To me at least, this is all pretty chaotic.

Thoughts?

That's probably because it's not a game in the way that we, in this forum community, would usually participate. It currently has most of the components of a "game" (people, participation, goals, etc.), but it lacks the puzzles, characters and story-lines (at least in the way that we, again, are used to) that we would normally see in the games that this community participates in.

However, I do encourage any and all to post their thoughts, ideas, what they are going to be trying to "save", etc. here. I would like to see, not just us as a community, but us as a world, come together and use our collective minds to solve some of these possible global issues.

I believe that when they said this this would be played out over forums, wiki's, blogs, etc., that WE would be the ones creating those, not the creators of this project. SO HOP TOO IT! Smile

EDIT: For mods: I'm not quite sure how this would work here, or even if it would, but how would one go about creating different threads for the different problems that need to be solved so this can look a bit more organized as people really start getting involved in this thing? Would this "game" need it's own section? Or can we just do the old [SS] (insert problem you are going to solve here) method?

That's cool then.

I'm more than up for contributing to a wiki - I just have no clue how to set one up and/or edit one - any crash courses around?

Superstruct

So, has anyone created a superstruct yet?

Mine is The Technological Security Initiative at http://www.superstructgame.org/SuperstructView/55

So far I'm pretty impressed, but not sure how to get people together on an idea...

Has anyone else started playing?

Just made my own superstruct
http://www.superstructgame.org/SuperstructView/72

It is a bit scifi as I don't really know if the solar panels will ever be effecitve enough to make something like this economically sense.
Well we'll see if they like the idea.

But I see the problem, too. I browsed to the superstructures but there weren't any which interestet me. If this continues everybody will make their own superstruct.

There. It's simple. It's effective.

You know, now that I am thinking about it...

They want us to play as we would be, in real life, in 2017.

But, me, a single indivudal, in real life, 2017, will not have the necessary resources to pull off anything...right? So I need other people's aid. But I don't think any of you got the resources necessary to pull off my "very humble scheme" (form a bunker, stay in that bunker for 100 years.)

If, however, I do have the necessary resources, why then would I need anybody else? I'll just God-mod, stating that I got the necessary resources, and lay back and relax.

What I am fearing is that this game might lead to a bit of...erm...anarchy...If I am powerless, we all are powerless, and the superstructs aren't really super, get what I am saying? If I have power, then, we all have power, and then we have to gague...how much power.

Basically: We're going to need to unite under one Superstructure, and fast.

I believe that it is all about the "we all know something about something" way of thinking. We may not be strong individually, but together we can bring our "one thing" to the table and make it work. It's just a matter of bringing the right kinds of people together.

BTW, I'm going to be spending the next few hours trying to organize this whole mess in order to help speed up this process. Granted, we are only a couple of days into it, but I think it's better to do this now before it gets to be too much for one person to rummage through. My thought is that this forum, in of itself, is a "Superstruct". At the very least, it is a place where we can all organize our thoughts. I wouldn't feel so bad about doing this if this had it's own little area of the forums, but it must be done. I find their system a tad bit disorganized and disorientating.

Bad form creating ten threads in this forum, I must admit. It's not the way things work around here.

"In bad form"... debatable. Not that I disagree with you, I just have a plausible explanation for my doing so.

There are now 6 different "Superthreats" that need to be tackled, each one containing different questions that need to be answered. You can:

1) Have one forum topic with all of people participating in the game talking about possible solutions to all 6 of the "Superthreats", thus making it very hard for anyone to tell who is talking about what and causing more clutter than is needed, or;

2) You can create different topics for each "Superthreat" and let the people who have decided on one or more "Superthreats" to discuss those in their specific areas. This is much more organized and will lead to faster results, in addition to making it easier for someone to get involved in any particular "Superthreat", even jumping from one to another if one so chooses, without having to weed through pages of text that have nothing to do with the "Superthreat" that they are wanting to get involved with.

So while it may be the opinion of some that it was "in bad form", I do find that their purpose outweighs their need to fit in with "how things work".

Besides, I created them, I can delete them if some so desire. But I will say that I was simply trying to make this a bit easier for other people. It had nothing to do with "I can, so I will", if you catch my meaning.
