Apparently it's changed cuz I can't enter phone numbers anymore. It's totally different now.

huh. yup. it's been shut down.

this article seems to indicate the polic shut it down.

In a sense, I can understand. Really, by the form they had for launching the call, there's no verification that you know the person - or at least that you are the legitimate owner of the phone numbe the call is to come 'from'.

Perhaps, before making the 'prank' call (which, btw, included the clear movie promotion at the end of the creepy call) these promo methods should verify the owner of a cell # before spoofing it - require a txt code be sent from your own cell before it makes the prank call to the recipient 'from' you...

Because, apparently, some people got these calls and had no idea what Saw was. Strange in itself. But it raises an interesting point about, effectively, unsolicited 'spam' calls. Unsolicited because there's no verification that the sender is known to the recipient.

Could unverified viral prank promo calls eventually be put under telemarketing and be bound by those 'do-not-call' lists?

That's odd.

This is just like the advertisements for Snakes on a Plane, where Samuel L Jackson called whatever number you put down and told them to go out and see his movie.

I guess his voice is less scary than some random guys voice asking you if you want to play a game. Too bad they took it down...
