The good people of Something Awful have stumbled upon a series of notes from a deranged psychopath named Robert Valdemar, adressed to a poor girl named Mary.

The site has a link to Roberts Flickr account and his email.
Some goons have sent some emails to him and have gotten replies.

First reply:

Apparently this is a reference to a passage in the Koran. Specifically, verse 81 Surah 19, or "Maryam".

 		Man, that's almost as disturbing as The Happening.

That said, I'm almost certain that there are clues somewhere like photobucket, myspace, youtube, etc. As the link to Flickr at the bottom of the page is titled "Example Venue". IE an "alternate venue."

So perhaps it's not a coincidence that the first string of the first series was 0624 (6/24). It also seems to fit with the 4/4 thing. In that the first code is just hints to the answers of the next four? Just some guessing there.

Hello, I found you guys through e-mailing Notesaboutmary.com. It's pretty interesting!

So, this might be completely unrelated but I e-mailed RobertSPLATnotesaboutmary.com asking about Cecilla - I can't remember which note he mentioned him/her in but it stuck out to me.

I got this reply:

I'm trying to strike up a friendly conversation with him so I hope he'll be a little more polite. Sheesh.

Googling Cecilla didn't give me much except a St Cecilla school in Dallas, TX? On Mary Cliff road? It's all very coincidental. I have a feeling I'm not really accomplishing anything though, just a dead end.

EDIT: Reading the SA thread shows that this is probably an SA-focused ARG, as one of the flickr images of the notes had an annotation saying "MustelaFuro knows". MustelaFuro is a goon who posted in the Notes To Mary thread with this:

MustelaFuro is a goon. Note: This does not preclude Robert from being a furry. I'm just sayin'.

Also, sup Unfiction, nice to meet you. I'm thinking that the ARG isn't so much goon focused as it is the PM is just all over F5'ing his sitelog and seeing where he's getting hits from, and responding appropriately.

Oh yeah. I suppose that would make sense, seeing as he's telling people to work with other venues. Since those two threads are considered "venues" it wouldn't be so far out of reach to assume other forums could be included as well.

EDIT: Da-hurr, one of those venues is this very thread! I guess we are supposed to get involved.

Common knowledge as far as I've seen is that SA == Goons. We have our tendrils in all the major internet points of interest. Clans in every MMO, groups on most Social networking sites, etc. etc.

Edit: Note4 just got a note on Flickr, DJP3DR0 knows! He's on the right track with one of his recent posts.

 		SA is fairly well known, I knew they were 'goons' before I even started going there regularly. Not saying that he's not a goon - just that it's not a given. Wink

Anyway I'm terrible with the number clues but I think I'm going to focus on the people he mentions - so far there's Mary, her brother Ben, Steven and Cecilla?

Mostly I'm wondering how Ben died, but I doubt he'd tell me if I asked him. Worth a shot I guess.

It's actually an O, not a zero... =P LOL, j/k, to use the vernacular. I wonder which one of my posts it is though. Do I only "know" because I quoted what MustelaFuro knows?

According to the comment, series two of five must be acquired through an alternative venue. I'm guessing this means there are five series of numbers, and seeing how the one that got translated led to a very definitive answer ("June 24th"), it wouldn't be too farfetched to assume the other four sequences are also hexadecimals.

But then what would the other venues be? We've got other series through e-mail so would it be that? Or are we sticking to forums here?

 		Been following the SA thread, but I don't have the tenner to pay ATM, but I'll say it here: "Vanity serves other purposes" seems fairly clearcut to me. Venue = forum where people are trying to solve this thing. With each new venue, a new series is handed out. In other words, three more forums need to start working on this thing. Then we'll get the whole hex/ 4*4/horizontal distribution thingy/whatever series and can start making serious headway.
