CHANGES!!! the d-9 site now says "johannesburg.zaf" and "local alert system" under the MNU logo, which I didn't notice before.

more importantly, the words "DISTRICT 9" are now spelled out over a portion of the map.. what does it mean?

EDIT: also, all of the little popup news windows now say "MEDIA UPDATES COMING SOON" under them

EDIT: and some new news stories.. nothing special

EDIT: sorry, it's "JOHANNESBURG, ZAF." ZAF refers to the southern tip of africa

Something just occured to me. I dont know, but are we looking at a real map? I assume it was taken from somewhere. And maybe there are items/clues at some of the marked locations? Anyone have an idea what city we are looking at?

for anyone who wondered about the map itself, it's definitely Johannesburg.

when you enter the map on the d-9 website there's coordinates in the top right corner, but they disappear if you click again. They're 26.10S / 28.02E ...

a google map search turns up this, which is very similar to the geography and layout of the d-9 site.

now to determine if those coordinates might mean anything more.

alright, after much "find 5 differences between these pictures" action, I've discovered District 9 on Google maps. I don't know what it is in real life, Google doesn't say. But here's your proof.

First: a side-by-side of the Google atlas and the MNU atlas, with some reference points.

Second: an outline of where District 9 really is!!

keep in mind, that's a totally different movie from D-9 - but it has the same premise and two of the same actors, presumably playing the same parts. Could D-9 be an extension of one of Blomkamp's early short films? or a remake? very odd

EDIT: in a comment on the IMDB, someone says the aliens look very similar to some baddies from a video game. he provides a link, and they look EXACTLY like the bathroom sign
