[PUZZLE] Paintover bg file?

I don't know if it's been brought up or not (I've tried to read through everything, but there's a lot), but the background image for the paintover site can be found at paintover.net/_img/bg8x6.jpg. I looked at it in photoshop, and my computer thinks there might be a watermark in there, though it can't read it.

I wouldn't know how to find a watermark, but the weird thing, imo, about that image are the shadows underneath the painter's... what is that thing called? I'll just call it a ladder. It looks as if the light is falling on it from different directions, casting multiple shadows of the legs on the floor. However, if you look at that diagonal grid-like pattern, you will see that there are no rungs in that ladder (on either side) that could cast such shadows. Maybe that's the watermark?

is it just me or does the text "Tavern.Pointe" at the bottom right seem to be bolder than it was previously?

I also used photoshop 7.0 and it said there was a watermark present but that it is not readable...when I did a screencapture of the same file it said no watermark found..changing it to greyscale made it say no watermark found either..interesting

I noticed that Tavern.pointe was bolder when the site was first discovered, but then it seemed to be all the same intensity a couple of days ago, when they had the first version of the Et tu image up. Then, when they changed that image, the Tavern.pointe was bolder again.

That's defined in the source code as black (I think that's what the #000000 means). Might suggest they had a different page up that just omitted the color.

We all agree that Tavernpointe is an anagram for Paintover.net But what about the word 'Paintover' itself.. you could read it as " 'P' ain't over.."
What could P stand for?
Oh hell, prolly way too far fetched... Confused

Just did a few binary operations on the colour planes - this sometimes reveals when something is out of place, mismatched shading, odd colour patches etc.

From what I can see, the only thing out of place (apart from the logos) is that little paint can image.

But it was already fairly obvious that was an addition.

I also did a watermark scan and nothing was found.

(I don't have the most up to date apps though)

Huh? What little paint can image? I just see a wall, the floor, the rolling scaffold, and some shadows.... Oh, and a hole in the wall, where you might expect an electrical outlet to go.

Ahh, hole in the wall? is that what that is.

I thought it looked like a tiny tin of paint, floating in the air.

Well anyway it's the only signigicant feature that's hidden by the picture window.

And whatever it is, the tests I did showed really odd colour characteristics around it.

Look to the bottom right of the photo, a bit above the E ... do you see something resembling OM, or a "little-box" and an M, slightly lighter than the surrounding area? Or am I making a recognisable form where there isn't one?

Ok, a little brain fart from me:
We have an outlet in the wall, which is normally hidden by the small pictures.
Hidden exit?

Ugh, I don't like that picture. It reminds me of something from The Ring. I had nightmares about that movie for weeks. Sad

I do think that the outlet could be relevant though. In fact, it seems likely it is a significant clue, though it may be more of a storyline clue, rather than a puzzle.

I see it like this - the outlet is missing. Doesn't that means there's no outlet, or no way out?

At the same time, since the outlet is usually hidden by the pictures on the page, it could mean that paintover.net is your secret outlet? Like, a way out of the Matrix?
