Not to be a jerk, but Austrian postal codes were introduced in 1966. Plus, the letter is definitely talking about Italy. I'm guessing it's just a made-up number.

whoah just a tip people - try to go lightly on the spoiler tags
we like to encourage them only for strict puzzle solutions or movie/tv spoilers... general knowledge or publically accessible information being spoilered just makes reading the thread tedious...

No, you're just stating facts, no offense taken, but you have to realize that you're talking about an ARG that has the basic workings of the internet, which didn't exist in any way, shape or form until 1969; the closest thing before ARPANET was SAGE, and even that was the late 50's working off the technology of Project Whirlwind, which Whirlwind didn't even start until late 1951. I think a postal code interpretation is apt; besides, I already said it was a guess.

You know... I've been thinking that if we want to start talking about historical inaccuracies we might was well begin with the part about the entire premise of the game...
Basically, as far as I can tell the only reason its set in the 50s is because it was when the renaissance of Science Fiction occurred (if you will) which spawned all these invasion paranoia plots which tapped into people's paranoia about the spread of communism. For practical purposes the game seems to be more or less set in a contemporary time period.
But I never played the first video game at all, so....

Found another double letter name. When you type GET COMMANDERHOLIDAYS into the terminal you get a message from L. Dicklesonn
After reading the wiki and upon closer inspection, the name appears to be L. Dicklesohn.

Divergent History If you go to the Sony site of the original game it does an excellent job of showing where the FOM timeline splinters from our own.

As per my excessive spoiler I toned it down a wee bit....sorry

Just a quick update from Comic-Con, for anyone interested...
So far I've seen NOTHING Resistance related, anywhere. The various Sony booths don't even mention the game. I'll keep my eyes out for something through the rest of the weekend, but at this point I don't expect much.
Yeah, my scout has found nothing yet either.
As Keanu might say, "Woah."
I wish I had more time to dig into this! Stupid 40 hour work-weeks and a fairly busy social-life (finally).

One of the commands is SEC, and looks to be a login.
The format is SEC [username:password]
Anybody think we should be looking for the General's? His username is probably based on L. Dicklesohn. , his name, and from his message we know he likes to read Milton. Maybe a password comes from Milton's work?
(edited to correct his name, oops)

Instead of typing "Get EU9376Debrief" type "Get EU9377 Debrief" to get the unblock version and type "res" twice.
Much thanks to "Ross " off PS3Fanboy.com comments for that.
Its on the Wiki already. Nevermind.

sorry for the double post - i think if anything we should look for the generals username, or possibly dr. aklin's since she doesn't seem too "happy" with her situation, she may not care as much for its security

anybody else think that maybe we were given the blackouts on the letter for a reason? I see white lines that may or may not line up to make a picture, or some overlay that may help later on. I would investigate it myself, but I don't have photoshop.
