I've been veguely following this from the start, and I recently sent an email to the Stranger (got an autoreply, nothing else...).
Anyways, I have a friend who maaaaay be able to get the one in Brisbane, if it hasn't been found already. Damnit, I was THERE in the damn library last month, if only I'd known...

Flash expert needed

I found this while working on another ARG but it seems to be related to this one. The final bit refers to "The Stranger" and there are images of Elephants which ties in with the Columbine references in a couple of AP's songs (Gus Van Sant made a movie about a school shooting called Elephant).

You start here:

http://www.benmackblackmagic.com/

Not much actually happens in the vids...but weird sound.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

Hidden link at the bottom takes you here:
http://www.benmackblackmagic.com/ and hidden text there asks
Who is the Stranger. Clicking the word "stranger" takes you to another video.
Final video titled "A Conversation with the Ghost"

related? Gamejacking? advertising?

Re: [ARG] "Who Killed Amanda Palmer?"
Secret #105

An Illustrated WKAP Odyssey

One of the latest batch of The Stranger's secrets is hidden in Los Angeles:

The Stranger wrote:
There is a city. Between the mountains and the sea. The city of Angels. In the basin, just where the hills start. There is a place where the stars sleep. Marble and planted flowers are their only friends. Through the iron gate to the left. By the tree that grows sideways on iron crutches and drinks from the pond. Just behind Dee Dee Ramone covered in kisses, Bianca lies in her resting place. An angel with the guitar, she was born to love, lived to rock. Even though she is gone, we love her forever. Bianca holds the secret.

The Stranger was also kind enough to direct us to Hollywood Forever, a fairly well-known cemetery 'round these parts. So well known, in fact, that it's been part of an ARG before: those who played "Last Call Poker" back in 2005 may remember that the ARG's final live event was held there. We played Tombstone Poker, and then followed Lucky's Brown's clues through the cemetery, making a stop at... yes, I'm pretty sure we had to sing to a memorial for someone named Ramone. So this afternoon I drove over to Hollywood Forever to pay my respects to another allegedly deceased personage: Amanda Palmer.

I imagined that I wouldn't have too much trouble, since I'd already been to the Ramone memorial once before. I drove right through the iron gate, headed down to somewhere in the vicinity of where I thought the memorial might be, and parked. As it turns out, my memory of where the memorial was located was excellent; my memorial of whose memorial it actually was, not so much. That would be Johnny Ramone, famous guitarist for the Ramones. Oops.

Fortunately I'd thought to bring the clue with me. The first landmark was: "The tree that grows sideways on iron crutches and drinks from the pond." As you can see from the photograph, there's a sizable body of water just behind Mr. Ramone. I decided to take a stroll around it and look for something fitting that description. En route, I saw a sign saying something like: "Warning: The ducks and geese can be aggressive during mating season. Do not run from them, they will only chase you. Their bites do not hurt. Falling will." I thought it was rather amusing. (This, incidentally, is a demonstration of a literary technique known as 'foreshadowing.' Write it down. There will be a quiz later.)

I did indeed observe quite a few ducks and geese lazing in the sunny weather, who for the most part appeared remarkably unafraid of humans (or at any rate of me). Most of them would eventually get up and waddle off indignantly if I got too close, but at one point I encountered one lovely goose who seemed quite comfortable where she was... and that was when I noticed that she seemed to be seated on something round made of feathers and random bits of vegetation. A nest? I edged a bit closer (still several feet away), and she half-rose to honk at me, revealing five beautiful eggs. Well, of course I had to take a picture, so I fumbled with my camera, knelt down, started to zoom in... and the goose decided that several feet was not far away enough. She charged, flapping her wings and honking furiously.

I remembered the sign.

I backed away slowly, letting the goose fling herself bodily against my legs and chomp me several times. (They're right; it didn't really hurt at all.) Eventually another goose -- presumably her mate, attracted by her honking -- came over to join the attack. After a minute or so, they decided that I had been sufficiently chastised, and the mother scurried back to her nest looking quite pleased with herself. I snapped a picture of her anyway... from a considerably safer distance.

Continuing along the shore of the pond, I spotted this tree -- quite plainly growing sideways on iron crutches! I consulted the next clue: "Just behind Dee Dee Ramone covered in kisses..." Right, the other Ramone. A brief search turned up this memorial. True to the description, it was covered with lipstick lip-prints. The secret had to be around there somewhere! The clues continued: "...Bianca lies in her resting place. An angel with the guitar..." And sure enough, there she was: a stone angel, with a child's guitar slung around her marble neck. For confirmation, the rest of the clue referred to Bianca's epitaph: "...she was born to love, lived to rock. Even though she is gone, we love her forever." I noted that poor Bianca appears to have died at the young age of only 36.

(And now, a brief digression into OMGWTFBBQ!!!1!one!!!!! Land: While taking these pictures, I happened to notice the headstone immediately to Bianca's right. "That name sounds familiar," I mused to myself, and looked more closely. The name, the professions, the year of death... Holy cr@p. I knew this man. Not just knew of him -- actually knew him, and met him more than once. He was my father's old writing partner for many years. I didn't even know that he was buried at Hollywood Forever, let alone that he'd end up next to Amanda Palmer's secret. Creeeepy!)

Getting back to Bianca, I spotted an out-of-place flash of white just to the left of the base of the memorial. It turned out to be a sealed envelope labeled "For Amanda Palmer," so I was pretty confident I'd found the secret. (It was about this time that the batteries in my camera decided to give out, but with a little coaxing and a lot of cursing I managed to persuade it to take a couple more shots.) I gently opened the envelope flap, and withdrew a lovely sympathy card. The outside read: "Whatever soothes your spirit, comforts your soul, and brings you peace..." and the inside read: "...that's what you're wished at this sad time."

The inside also contained the secret.

Okay, so it's a duplicate of one we already found. I don't care. The hiding place was most fitting, the clues were quite clever, and the card was beautiful and very appropriate. I give this experience two thumbs up. And I carefully replaced the envelope after documenting everything, so anyone else who wants to can also find the secret.

It is? Is there a more active discussion going on out there somewhere? I can't seem to find it.

Well, there's a list of secrets on the Wiki. But yes, the folks over at The Shadowbox -- a forum devoted more generally to the Dresden Dolls, Amanda Palmer, and Brian Viglione -- typically has a much more lively discussion, in addition to a topic devoted to the Stranger's secrets.

Sooooooo, tonight I went to the Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab Brick 'n' Mortar event and had quite a nice surprise when I got there - there are now perfume oils associated with the whole 'Who Killed Amanda Palmer' experience!

I am not exactly sure where they will be sold - the bottles I took sniffs of were prototypes, and I suspect they might be making an appearance at Comic-Con or Convergence, not sure!

At any rate, the following scents were on display for testing:

Cupcake Splatter Pattern Analysis (this one made me guffaw as soon as I saw it)
Leaf-strewn Couch
Floater
Manus Dei (Typewriter Incident)
Blackberry Jam and Scones

Those were the scents I definitely saw labeled as 'WKAP.' If there were others, I don't know, but I think I saw them all.

So, perhaps food for thought, or at least a somewhat-foody scent experience to go along with the book and the music and the interactive narrative stuff!

The Monolith & Sky link has hidden text above and below the image:

Code:
BYOXO BYOXO BYOXO BYOXO BYOXO BYOXO

which is old Morse code shorthand roughly meaning, "Are you trying to weasel out of it?"; and

Code:
LIOUY LIOUY LIOUY LIOUY LIOUY LIOUY

which is old Morse code shorthand roughly meaning, "Why do you not answer my question?"

Regarding http://monolithandsky.com/q.html:

NotJackFox over on the ShadowBox figured out that the text at the top of that image is not Morse code, but is in fact a computer keyboard with six of the letters represented by asterisks.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
They anagram to the word HUNGRY, which is Koosh's password on the Monolith & Sky site. There are five old messages -- and I do mean old. They're all from 2008.

Next up: that new clue for the Joie de Vivre site!

Mandy

It looks as if Mandy may have made an appearance at long last. Someone tweeted a link to this photo with the #WKAP tag. The URL shown is for Mandy's Myspace page.

(I confess to being slightly leery of an attempted gamejack. This Mandy Baker posted absolutely nothing until April of 2009, which would be awfully unusual since all of other characters have existed since last year. Still, can't be sure...)

Solved! The audio file at http://www.joiedevivresalon.com/a%20koan%20perhaps.mp3 includes the following:

The Stranger wrote:
If you are brave enough to come to the doorway, you will most certainly be granted the key you are looking for.

Hayley Fiasco! at the ShadowBox thought to try http://www.joiedevivresalon.com/thedoorway.html, which contains an advertisement revealing the bones key that we've been missing: REBIRTH
