hey hits... got your twit today! how awesome to be updated while i was out and about. anymore twitterers on here?

it amazes me that twitter is not exploding moreso in the world of ARGing and there must be something going on that i'm not aware of with facebook if their ceo/founder is the keynote speaker at SxSW.. not that it's "old news" but certainly not worth a keynote spot.

So, back to the topic... twit away!

Blog translastions

Since each of the characters is going to be running their own blog in their own language, I thought it might be nice to have a quick way to read it in your language.

For game purposes, we might still want to do direct translations on certain posts with a native speaker of the language rather than using an online translator, but this is a start.

Several of the blogs I couldn't find translators back into all the other languages, but if they do get found as a resource, I'll edit this post.

Additionally, the chinese and japanese translations really don't seem to be working well at all. If someone has a better resource let me know.

So these links take you directly to the blog, but translated on the fly, so you get a jist of what's going on:

We have forum guests behind chinese firewalls who have been doing excellent translations for Mei Hui. Unfortunately they cannot access the wiki - so somebody needs to copy/paste their work when they post.

As per the short rant/discussion in the trailhead thread about having a way to keep up-to-date with the news, I was inspired to make a Newsfeed based on the Wiki's Timeline page.

And ta-da:
http://www.thebruce.net/RSS/LostRingWiki.asp

subscribe and see the short summary of the most recent 100 items on the Timeline page.
It can also serve as a quicklink to the page to edit it when something new happens. Note however that it's a scrape of the Timeline page, so the RSS is created based on a strict syntax of the wiki code. So if you make changes, make sure it follows the fomat of previous items, otherwise it'll throw an error (because it doesn't understand the content, of course Smile )

So if we work together, it should be easier to keep that Timeline up to date.

Bringing ovr the topic from the press thread regarding player resources for newcomers...

It's early days yet, but this is an important part of the interview.

give them the opportunity to play with something first, and kind of get things organized, and set up for when someone who's never played before shows up.

Yeah that was a key paragraph I noticed when I read it too...
As has been mentioned elsewhere, so much has happened just in one week, it's a lot of info to get up and organized on the wiki, especially with only 4 or 5 people regularly helping... I've been more focused at this point on making it readable and friendly (ymmv), with a bit of effort on getting the latest events tracked (still greatly lacking in the initial few days).

There definitely needs to be a good "START HERE" for newcomers, branching off into a few formats, like - seeing what's happened so far, whether detailed point form or just summaries - and more of a research, informational focus, covering what the game's about, its connection to the olympics and the mysteries of the ancient olympics, attempting to open the door for research and brainstorming at various websites/communities/forums/etc.

There's a lot of research data and history stuff that's been speculated on and theorized about that has simply not made it onto the wiki yet, as it's still in its pure info-tracking stages.

Perhaps it's a call to help get it up to date and filled with some meat Smile

I found this paragraph quite intriguing...

Jane MacGonigal wrote:
What can people learn from the game?

McGonigal: They're going to learn about their own strengths. We're going to help them learn what they're good at and then give them missions that are totally customizable to their personal strengths. That's the part of the game I'm most proud of, that innovation. In the ARG world, you don't always know what you're supposed to do. You spend a lot of time waiting and waiting. So we wanted it to be so that for everybody, every time you come to one of the game sites, you know exactly what you're supposed to do, and that we need you because this is what you said you were good at. But that part hasn't started yet.
