Seems a perfect connection to R'lyeh.

Especially the premise for the theory: Biogeographical lack of explanations for some things.

As mentioned previously, from the wikipedia entry, R'lyeh is the sunken nightmare corpse-city in which the dread Cthulhu slumbers. And the Thule society was formed upon the idea of another mythical country based off Greek Legend

There definitely is a mythical-fictional landmass theme developing. I wouldn't be surprised to see Atlantis or Avalon show up.

It did strike me as odd that they'd use Derleth's coordinates and not Lovecrafts.

Not at this time.

I'm just connecting fictional dots while waiting for another clue to smack us over the head.

Wikipedia wrote:
Derleth invented the term Cthulhu Mythos to describe the fictional universe described in the series of stories shared by Lovecraft and other writers in his circle. Derleth's own writing emphasized the struggle between good and evil, in line with his own Christian world view and in contrast with Lovecraft's depiction of an amoral universe. Derleth also treated Lovecraft's Old Ones as representatives of elemental forces, creating new entities to flesh out this framework.

Because he invented it perhaps?

This all seems quite interesting. came too late to help out with that first puzzle there, but i'll definitly be checking back as things start moving.

and Zeph...could simply be that the creator of this arg liked Derleth better...or the coordinates are less well known (google earth has R'lyeh at the original Lovecraft coordinates).

Clairenor - the blue map was kind of the "last key" for figuring out the topic of what this is all about.

True - I did think it was a clue to look at the entire mythos as a whole rather than just the one short story. Which led to this:
Quote:
Derleth's coordinates place the city approximately 5100 nautical miles (5900 statute miles or 9500 kilometers), or about ten days journey for a fast ship, from the real island of Pohnpei (Ponape).

Which in turn lead to the Ruins of Nan Madol - could be a bit of a reach, but maybe this is where the "artifact" that Adam received comes from?

Of course, this is all idle speculation while we wait for clues/the countdown to finish...

this is probably nothing to do with what we need to look for but to pass the time.
In the wiki for theosophy in the "20th-century literary references to Theosophy" bit it says
Quote:
H. P. Lovecraft read W. Scott-Elliot's The Story of Atlantis & Lost Lemuria and altered Theosophical ideas in his short story, "The Call of Cthulhu (1928)."

Which links to alot of the pics in facebook (list, steiner and thule).

The Overview II
Continued from The Overview I on page 3

What we have so far...

August 2nd was closed with the unfortunate fact that we still needed to retrieve the 7-digit key in order to solve the first clue.
However, several discoveries were made as well:

Behind The Yellow Curtain website and the encrypted message
Behind The Yellow Curtain facebook profile
Our contact person: Eleanora Plante (E.P.) at eleanora.planteSPLATgmail.com
The Wakthrough of Behind The Yellow Curtain Episode 1 that gave us more information about Anashel.

August 3rd was opened with an e-mail from E.P.:

Quote:
I am so worried. I haven't received any news from mikes yet. We split in London, he was supposed to catch my trail over Craiglist…

My English is not that good; I will do my best friend. I have sent you all the clues Adam left me. I am a bioanthropologist, Adam is my tutor, but I will give you theses details when we have more time.

So, the first clue was this note:

"A2D4EA231D7DA873908A222FB9B380E9
0965D161AB030944AF5248411EAF244B
C2E777705D90A58D0B184864FCF8206B
CE6A9E3C4689E8542826FE60619AD262
89C0C27457005B494DB4E8E14170CBD5
360217B73D2194FE3250872E30A13445

Challenge the Uthark theory, go back to the source"

The note was encrypted by Mike, he told me he used a blowfish encryption but only Adam knew the key. Is there any online decryption tool I can try to decipher a blowfish encryption? I have a pretty good idea what he meant as for "going back to the source", the origin of Uthark, but I lack the technical knowledge to decipher it. He probably thought Mike would still be with me.

The next one was a picture of New Zealand with the word 'sc-47734' behind it. Before everything went downward, Adam was working on artifact he just received from New Zealand, but I have no clue what SC-47734 mean. If Adam left me the clue, it must be something I should understand as a bioanthropologist…

I was contacted by someone named Anashel. He told me you sent him, I was a little bit surprised. I am going to meet him this afternoon. I hope I can trust you…

Yours sincerely,
Eleanora Plante

An immediate reply was manifactured to warn E.P. for Anashel: we do not know him, and we do not know if we or E.P. can trust him. As far as we know he is the PM.

Secondly the e-mail was taken a closer look at to distinguish the main characters:

Eleanora Plante: A female bioanthropologist who posted the initial message on Craiglist as a trail for Mike. She took flight 15 from London to Sydney. She is on the run. Her next action is to meet Anashel in Sydney. Therefore her current location is guessed to be Sydney until further notice.
Mike: An acquaintance of E.P. who was supposed to pick up her trail at Craiglist. He encrypted the 'coded message'. Based on E.P.'s description is likely to be well-known with technique and/or mechanics or ICT. His current location is unknown.
Adam: E.P.'s tutor who possesses the key for the 'coded message'. He received an artifact from New Zeeland and was working on this before 'everything went downward'. Based on E.P.'s description Adam is likely a (bio)anthropologist or archeologist. His current location is unknown.

Although we still did not have the key (although convinced once again it was Futhark despite the lack of correspondence with the Crypto software) there was other information we could focus on such as sc-47734 and its connection to New Zeeland.

Zephonith wrote:
The only thing that comes up when you google "sc-47734" (apart from this thread) is the catalogue number for Polycystin-2 antibody, bred in mice. When the Polycystin-2 protein is mutated, it results in autosomal dominant kidney disease. Which seems plausible, seeing as she's a bioanthropologist.

The only connection to New Zeeland: http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/bsc/kid/2004/00000065/00000002/art00013
Which brought us back to the ICON for BTYC: bunny.gif

Another dead end for the time being and no further notice on the 7-digit key.
To make sure we weren't missing any information a closer look was taken at the BTYC facebook profile by creating our own Unfiction Btyc with the following information:

Quote:
Username: b-tycSPLAThotmail.com
Password: password15

The images in the album of the BTYC Facebook Profile were quickly examined and their origins retrieved.
(For more detailed information please visit page 5)

The archeologist: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleontology
A sateleite overview of New Zeeland with the code: sc-47734
Guido von List: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guido_von_List
A vague screen of a google map with the text Last Key.
Rudolf Steiner: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudolf_Steiner
Poster of the Thule Geselshaft: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thule_Society
Sigurd Agrell: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uthark / http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigurd_Agrell
A runic circle of the Armanen Futhark: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armanen_runes

One could easily be interlinked with the other and theories began to surface:
Quote:
All of them can easily be linked with one another through Freemasonry a.o. (Uthark Theory > Madam Blavatsky > Nazi's > Thule Geselshaft > Ultima Thule > Hollow Earth Theory > Evolution > Aryan Thule).

However, not for long.
Around 12PM there was a new comment on the BTYC website:
Quote:
Nick a dit...
Nooooooonnn!

Basic translation:
No! I wanted to solve this before you! Next I was going to call Andrea for help. Perhaps you can tell us the solution.. =) I already tried many possibilities; Futhark, Uthark, Uthrakf, lower case, capitalised, blended... Nothing came out.

The comment most likely came from the Montreal community aso working on the code. We decided to let them know of our participation through an anonymous comment and referred to our facebook profile.

The same facebook where soon after a new message popped up:

BYTC Facebook wrote:
Bonjour! Voici un petit update de l'épisode 2 en date du Dimanche 3 août 2008! Je vais faire l'update en anglais comme nous avons cette fois un peu plus de participant international.

(rapid translation of the above: Hello! Here a small update on the 2nd episode on Sunday, the 3rd of August 2008! I am going to do this update in English since with have some international participants.)

The game is running now since 3 days.

- The initial clue was launch on 4 online forums and 2 newspapers.

- More than 60 unique visitors (and counting) reached the first stage.

- 4 unique visitors cracked the code and made it to the second stage. (Yay!)

They are some report of people who actually found the key but were not able to crack it. It seems there is different implementation of Blowfish out there. Keep in mind that "The girl who needed help" was on the run and probably needed to use cybercafé as her only way get in touch. If she had to use any tool to decrypt or encrypt message, it will be an online one. (Nick…) Yet, decrypting the message is not the only way to get to the second stage.

You still have lot of time so don't worry of being left out if you just tune in.

The outcome of this?
1. Unfiction is most likely the 'international participant' referred to.
2. We now knew how to crack the code.

An online version of Blowfish was retrieved and with the key Futhark the encrypted message was decoded:

Quote:
Eleanora Plante Video feed 001
Enter in server stream field on http:www.polycystin.com.

We now had a website: http://www.polycystin.com
And a countdown.
Not that we left it at that...

Further inspection of the site's source-code led to the following:
clairenor wrote:
got some thing in the source

LAT| -49.850000 - LONG| -128.566667

Tracked by Jain: Map

Coordinates that lead to a spot in the middle of the ocean between New Zeeland and South America. Much alike the 'Last Key' Google map image that we saw on the BTYC facebook profile.

Further investigation even led to another clue to the background story:

source-code wrote:
<iframe name="R'lyeh"

Zephonith wrote:
Aha! The frame name is also important - R'lyeh. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%27lyeh
Quote:
R'lyeh[1] is a fictional city that first appeared in the story, "The Call of Cthulhu,"[2] by H. P. Lovecraft.
And the coordinates seem to match up with what's given in the Wikipedia article (halfway between NZ and South America).

So what is it we are looking for? Are we meant to 'summon Cthulu' as Gregoryn95 put it? Rediscovering Atlantis or Lost Lemuria? 'R'lyeh, the sunken nightmare corpse-city in which the dread Cthulhu slumbers' as Dream described? Or as they neatly put it: are we at the point of unraffeling a 'mythical-fiction landmass theme'?

For now the coordinates seem to point at R'lyeh:
Wikipedia wrote:
August Derleth, however, placed R'lyeh at 49°51′S, 128°34′W in his own writings.

And perhaps we even know where the artifact came from that Adam was working with:
Zephonith wrote:

Nevertheless, the countdown continues, and all we can currently do is
wait,
theorise,
and debate whether or not we will read the lenghty article clairenor linked:

Thank-you Smile As long as they're appreciated I'll continue to make them.

Also noticed something peculiar: polycystin is an anagram for City Pylons. I thought that was quite suiting.
