Best (and worst) ARG endings What's your favourite, what did you hate? Firstly, thank you to EVERYONE who has replied to my PM Help topics so far. You have been really helpful!
I was just wondering what your favourite (and least favourite!) end-games have been. I loosely followed Hollowmove, which has caused discontent because the end just kinda fizzled.....
My favourite so far is We Tell Stories, which had a great live interactive blog as the end-game, which really made us feel like we had influence over what was going on.
So, what are yours?

the worst ARG's are the one's that never finish and IMPLODE!

I agree one hundred percent, that is very frustrating! However, I am talking about actual endings........

I think the endings that happen abruptly without explaination are the worst... or when the PM ends the game with a less than proper ending... meaning "Hey everyone! It's over because.. ...well it just is!! Deal with it!"
and alot of times, the endings leave the players scratching thier heads because it wasn't a full conclusion...
I am just rambling at this point so...yeah...

That's not rambling, it's an opinion. All worth it! I am posting this in PM Help for a good reason.......I don't want to repeat other's past mistakes, and I do want to leave the players satisfied at the end of the game. So, all opinions welcome!

One of the best endings was Project Ophiucus. We beat the bad guys saved the girl and then found out we were all to be targeted next. Fantastic ending.

I agree with Fish. That game and LGL was the best games I have ever played!

I love it when people agree with me. (It shows how smart they are!)

Thank you both!
What made the ending great though? Was it the level of interaction, the general storytelling, the fact that you felt you had a bearing on the outcome...yada yada...?
I guess what I'm really asking is what made you feel emotionally attached to the ending? What made you feel "Oh cr*p, It's really over, what do I play now?" Or, on the flip side, what made you think "If that was supposed to be the end, why the hell did I just spend the last six weeks of my life following this Sh*t?" !!

IRIS had a really disappointin ending, if you can call it that. There was no real "finale" to it. We didn't even know the game WAS over until someone who's dad worked at M$ leaked out an article from their employee homepage saying how it just ended and they were making a note: Huge success.
/me has been playing Orange box XD
As for best ending... Yeah, WTS was epic Too bad I wasn't there to see it live

@Fish haha
Well, i think the fact that it was so exciting as far as trying to decode files and getting a certain number of people to help with "unlocking the files".. It was great intercation.. and one more thing!!! We had our own chat room and mailing system!! It was awesome!
LGL had the computer that you could carry on a converstaion with.. very cool!!
To sum it up, I think it was the level of interaction and updates!!

Beast of Black Water had an ending so bad it might actually count as "best ending" for me. PM died (in a house fire, I think) and his girlfriend posted to the thread revealing what the story would have done had he not died a fiery death, cuz that's what he'd have wanted.
Can't think of the best ending, but I enjoyed the Chain Factor finale -- control over the ending was vested in how people chose to play the flash game over a fixed period of time.

Dude... can't believe you mentioned Chain Factor. I'd finally broken the addiction, and then you talk about it... Un. Cool. You gonna hand out cigarettes to people who just quit smoking next?
Anyway. I've gotta say, of the few ARGs I've played through all the way, I haven't been completely blown away by any of the endings. But I think a good ending in an ARG is just like a good ending in anything. The main thing to remember is that when it's all said and done, the story justified the conclusion.
In other words, no twists that weren't clued in on previously, no shocks for the sake of shock value, and -- good or bad -- everyone gets what they deserve (even if it doesn't seem that way until you've reflected on it a bit).

I didn't play it, but I hear that Vapor Lofts just sorta faded out at the end without a real conclusion.
