getting a blog noticed

What are some good ways to get an IG blog noticed without actually telling someone that it's there? Is it even possible?

As long as the name on the blog is the same as one of the characters and the blog is on a fairly common site (i.e. blogspot, livejournal or the social networks) players will usually notice. You can also drop hints, like mentioning blogging in the game. You might use synonyms like journal or diary or something as well.

Ack, I should probably be more specific...

I'm looking for ways to get a blog noticed pre-game. It's the start of the game and it'll lead to the other aspects and characters.

It was suggested to put 'ARG' in the tags. But I'd also like to get some other ideas, too. The more exposure in the most natural way, the better.

So you want the Blog to BE the rabbit hole? Sounds tricky. You would need to have some sort of hook to get people to look for it I think. A mysterious email, Chatting with someone on Yahoo or AIM, something to let people know there is a character out there with something to talk about. I dont think a blog on its own is likely to get noticed.

How about this?

Go to My Yahoo and cruise through the popular feeds for the area(s) that might be related in some way to your game, then update your blog tags with some of the more obscure terms du jour you've found. Like maybe "Urban seagulls".

Get Google to list you in their Blog Search:
http://blogsearch.google.com/ping
There are other blog pinging services, but I suspect being added to Google's will tend to enhance your placement in their overall search index. I know that LiveJournal offers an option under Viewing Options to ping weblogs.com when you update, but as of now the regular web based access to the site is down so I can't provide details or an effective link to it.

I know that some blog sites have some sort of syndication or tag sharing functions where you can increase your chance of being found. Using suitable tags will most certainly help when creating your blogs - like if you were running an ARG about a vampire named "Burglepop" you'd put those in as tags in ALL of your posts, at least initially. Note that one is a relatively common word yet genre specific enough to pique a suitable audience's interest, and the other is a completely unique word (a fabricated name) which will then create something else to key on for subsequent searches for information.
