Ugggg

So still nothing? I can't think of anything else. This has to be a lot easier than it seems.

I need a hug.

*hug*

Yeah, this is getting rather depressing. We're probably missing something really obvious. Maybe it's because we don't really know what we're looking for. It seems like the hacker conversations began with Carelessly, with the Roll Call business, so this may not be another one.
Also, in the Silvia files, Caesar says, "sorry about the switcheroo with this whole home base thing," implying that it's the first time they've switched domains.

Hmm. If we go for a minute with the Rampant Speculation Thread over in General Updates, then Caesar (who may or may not be Avery's son...doesn't really matter for this) is the one searching for s/heismissing and hosting those pics. He's following the traces of the AI to see where they could be...and getting his hacker friends to help him without their knowing what exactly is going on. I think that this may eliminate my previous theory that the pic points to sheismissing.info, because no way would Caesar want his hacker friends to see that and know that he has anything to do with it. Although, if it isn't pointing to a conversation, then may not be pointing to any directory at all.

But the hackers would presumably have known what it points to, or else we'd have seen people asking Caesar what was up with that first pic. So what else do they know that we don't because we haven't decoded the pic?

That's easy, they know what it means Very Happy

Oh! Heh, gee, thanks. Very Happy

I was thinking more along the lines of, what else have they said that we didn't entirely understand (except for Random, who I'm convinced has sold his soul to the Devil) that could be a hint about what was in that pic? I couldn't seem to find anything...but if there's nothing, then what on earth was the point of the pic?!? ARG.

Let's see...what common ground do they share that we don't have access to? Well, they all seem to know what it is that they're doing, and it took us a while to catch on...they are monitoring "whomp" levels. Soo...maybe the first pic contains instructions, telling them what to look for? Because that's something that they began talking about, seemingly out of nowhere. Maybe it leads to some file on paintover that would say something like, "Help me watch for unusual node activity... I'll post a new message with info for the next meeting place."

Heh. Let's give up on the pic and just pretend that we all know what it says! Yay, all solved...

Well, we might just know something they didn't: We have an idea about the reason that Caesar chose the kinds of images that he did. Maybe we can use that to our advantage? Try to look at that image from Caesar's point of view ... he wants it to be something that clever people can figure out but a data mining program (or AI) cannot.

Rather than try and reason out just what that means in writing, I'm going to contemplate Confused

(EDIT: Yanka is correct to point out this is a speculative notion. That's why I used the word might ... )

Sorry for my bad english, I hope you can understand me.

I think that they know:
1. the file extensions (without brute-force)
2. how to find the next file in the conversation (which is the answer to the last file, who is the next to post a file)

To take Kag's second point first (if only to get it out of the way), I'd like to hang on to the idea that the usey these meetings, pretty much like we use this forum. (in theory) you read the proceeding posts and then reply.

To tie the remaining ideas together, and of course everything else Rolling Eyes
We need to decide what the picture could be in overall terms.

We beleive we are looking for some information. Be it how they choose the file extentions or simply just a pre roll call introduction.

So I see only three possibilities

A) This picture contains a pointer to the location of this information
B) The picture itself contains the information.
C) The picture contains nothing and was just a placeholder.

We've spent a lot of time assuming the first option with little result.

It's difficult to see how the second one would work.

I'll be really upset if the third one.

So No , I've got no more answers, I'm just trying to break it down a little.
Very Happy

xnbomb, I heart you and all, but I'd just like to point out that the whole "Caesar doesn't want AI to figure his clues out" bit is a speculation at this point (one that SOME people (or maybe just one person) don't necessarily subscribe too). Smile Smile

Of course. But what else is there to do when you've tried everything you can think of? Try something new. That's what hypotheses are for ... they're for testing Very Happy I would never suggest that my speculation is right or provable at this point. But it does provide a fresh way to look at a month-old problem, and having stared at that picture for too long, that's exactly what I need ... a new way to look at it. I'm happy to pursue that line of thinking all by myself, but I've found lately that when I hang my ideas out there, people have a tendency to see things that I didn't see in them, and that sometimes leads somewhere ... potentially fruitful collaboration Very Happy

It is worthwhile to point out that I'm using a speculative idea to try and look at things differently. But not every leap is going to be made solely on evidence ... there are going to have to be some guesses, some intuitive thinking when straight and pure logic isn't doing the trick.

Let me generalize a little and remove the specific information from my speculation: What was Caesar thinking when he put the image together? What can we guess about the problem that the hackers were faced with that differs from the problem that we have (since we assume they solved it)? As Omnie put it 'what do they know that we don't'?

Just looking back a few pages to see if there was anything not thoroughy ragged apart yet Very Happy
And wondered if this warranted further study.

Possible solution?

To me, after looking at the image again, some things become clear.
There's a skeleton face behind the girl, and it is Looking Up.

Three possibilities. 1) Look up (literally) some web page. 2) It's another quote from Alice in Wonderland. I chose the following section as likely.

"Who are you talking to?" said the King, coming up to Alice, and looking at the Cat's head with great curiosity.

"It's a friend of mine--a Cheshire Cat," said Alice: "allow me to introduce it."

"I don't like the look of it at all," said the King: "however, it may hiss my hand if it likes."

"I'd rather not," the Cat remarked.

"Don't be impertinent," said the King, "and don't look at me like that!" He got behind Alice as he spoke.

"A cat may look at a king," said Alice. "I've read that in some book, but I don't remember where."

I believe it is this quote he is refering to. The red thing she is looking at looks suspiciously like a King's red chess piece. Perhaps this whole message is just an inside joke about how Caesar knows more than anyone else likely to find the image. A challenge perhaps.

Sorry, I don't think it's in-game. Reverse lookup leads to all kinds of interesting sites, which are definitely not in-game, so this one wouldn't be either, I don't think. It's cool that we're still finding fresh angles for this pic, though. Very Happy

Perhaps, perhaps not... I'm not sure. but it's pretty strange to have a www site that's just a login.

Slithytove is from Jabberwocky by Lewis Caroll. My friend just told me that. Though it might just be a coincidence with RedKing. But the rest of the sites aren't exactly Alice in Wonderland related... if you get what I mean. Who does fansites for Alice in wonderland anyway? I think it's suspicious.

jabberwocky, by lewis carroll.

jabberwocky, by lewis carroll. (read it out loud)

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
