if it is B166ER, that would be hella dumb...for the reasons said above, the simple hackers would know more about the history of the matrix than the main characters in the matrix trilogy...I really hope they havnt used the robot, if they have, and they read this..they'll be like "shit yeah thats a good point, we shouldnt have used him" lol

Sometimes, you can get a sense of gender by the way someone writes (I find myself trying to use that sense as I read posts here), but that's not foolproof. Until we have definitive evidence otherwise, we have to accept that Caesar could be a she.

But realistically, it may be a male writer writing a female character for the game.

Another thing about Edgar Allen Poe is his story, Gold-bug, it "remains unequaled as a work of fiction turning upon a secret message."

Poe also had an interest in cryptography and believed that deciphering messages was simply an application of reason and logic and in December 1839 he challenged anyone that he could solve any simple subsititution cipher that the readers of Alexander's Weekly Messenger sent in to him.

Well then someone get in their time machine and mail this to Poe QUICK!

So far the best solution to the girl/skeleton image I've seen is the Dead Alice = Daedalus suggestion that was made some time back in this thread. If it really is a skeleton in the background (and I'm still not completely convinced as the front of the skull should be clearer than it is), then it would fit - the two images are merged together - hence the merging together of the two words in Daedalus.

In Greek mythology, Daedalus built the Labyrinth to house the Minotaur. As we know there are references to a Labyrinth project being worked on at Metacortechs. I would speculate that James Avery is Daedalus - the original architect of the Labyrinth project. If he's the missing person on heismissing.info (a pic hosted by paintover.net), then perhaps caesar is his son.

I think the STOL part of the image most likely refers to the "Small to Large" suggestion made earlier, since that phrase "Always to have lesssons to learn" comes from the fourth chapter of Alice in Wonderland, in which Alice has drunk from a bottle found in the White Rabbit's home and has grown almost too large to fit inside the house.

I think we're still stuck on where we could use any of these clues. Unlike the other paintover pics there is no clear indication of which site to look at. That could mean that we only need to look at the paintover.net site. Or it could mean we don't look for hidden directories on other sites.

If this is the introductory/invitational message to the hackers from caesar, wouldn't it be especially useful if it led to a login on USH? This is the one common thread for all these sites - if you had a master login to USH you could create hidden directories on any of the other sites without the owners knowing. Hmmm... just a thought.

I think I like where you're going with this Loki... it introduces another degree of separation between the hacker characters the metacortex characters, but I think I like it. That would make Caesar or Scratch a sysadmin at _ rather than a Metacortex employee, and it makes sense that someone from a company 'cortex is partnering with would be more concerned about what 'cotex is doing that and actual 'cortex employee.

Thats a whole lotta cortexes... Very Happy

Well...we tried the login screen at Underscore. This was done before the game even launched, actually. There's a specific code that the password/username combo uses... and only certain combinations of characters would be accepted. Someone on TLFC (Matrix forum) wrote a brute force program to get the password (don't yell at me, this was before we even knew it was a game)...oh, I should maybe include spoiler tags here for those who don't want to know what was found by this method of pure fiery evilness:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
This site (clickety click) was the only one successfully found. It's basically a message telling us to stop bruting, actually, but we didn't catch that at the time and instead took it as an encouragement - look, we found something! We must be on the right track! Heh... oh, and the guy who was doing the bruting (mr2828, to give proper credit where it's due) was banned from the game, although I don't know how long that lasted

So...yeah. They may have changed the system by now. If not, it's probably not the way to go. Very Happy

[Edit] Heh, I didn't realize this was actually in the guides. Never mind, you could probably forget those spoiler tags. Very Happy

well, just to add some wild speculation, while I was out at a bar watching comedians on an open mic night, I realized (duh, probably been said before) that the oct 1st photo showed up before the hackers started using directories, back then they were pointing towards ftp sites at least on the aquapolis hints.. speculation over..

Hmm......just now I found another link to Edgar Allan Poe. On the paintover.net HTML source, you find the following:

Code:
<a href="/_cpy/index.html" target="poe"><(=</a>:|:<a href="/_cpy/archives.html" target="poe">=)></a>

Just to tell what is going on here, the link is linking to the frame with the pictures in it which has been given the name 'poe'.

Not sure if it has been pointed out yet, can't say I remember seeing anything about it. The link could be from what I posted before about his story, Gold-bug, still being a work of fiction turning upon a secret message. That is, we are in the 'story' and this is where the 'secret messages' are.

I guess it's not that really that great now that I think about it Confused

This, combined with "I see" gave me "I see dead people"

Probably nothing, just popped into my mind... but since w're stuck it can't hurt to throw things out and see what sticks. If there are people who were assumed to have been dead, and this person (Caesar?) has seen them, could he be telling his cohorts that? People who are rescued from the Matrix do occasionally go back inside (to see the oracle, to find keymakers, to blow up nuclear plants, etc).

If this is it, then the missing words would be "dead people"

Nah, don;t like the dead people thing. Too corny. Razz

I like the Daedalus Theory. According to HERE , and other sites, Daedalus means "skilled in Art"

Here is a nother tidbit of info that might be pertinate: "For the king's daughter Ariadne he built a dancestage." Maybe that Background picture on paintover.net is the dancestage. Does Daedalus run Paintover?

Possible missing word: If the girl in the picture is playing "Peekaboo", then maybe the missing word is "YOU" or U. "Eye See YOU"

Daedalus was the "Architect" of the labrinth.

So much there could be.
