Here's page 456 of Gray's Anatomy. FWIW. It may be from a slightly older edition, as the photo on 13lights.org includes additional text regarding 'studies'.

The blacked out text is just basic information about the thorax. Nothing stands out to me as being particularly meaningful, at least as of yet. If this is supposed to be a clue, I'd say we're looking at either the page number, the book itself, or 'thorax'.

I think the image referred to in the letter was the barcode image included with the drop. It did help us narrow the scope (watcher has always referred to locations as scopes)

I have an idea. Count the letters. Use the text in the picture.

If we treat the numbers as groups with a / separating each of the groups we end up with precisesly 120 groups in the N-S pages and 140 groups in the E-W pages.

example from first page

group 1 - 13 11 1 44/
group 2 - 13 11 1 45/

...and so on. I counted a few time to be sure. the first time I got 119 N-S groups and 140 E-W groups. The second time I got 120 N-S and 138 E-W. Does someone mind rechecking? My eyes hurt.

No, I got the same thing - 120 for the NS and 140 for the EW. It's interesting that some of the groups have different numbers of...numbers than others. But it doesn't seem like it would end up corresponding to letters in a word.

I used an OCR program to convert the code images to text. It should be a little easier to manipulate if needed. The program wasn't perfect and I did have to reformat the spaces in the text a little, but I'm quite positive I got it all right. Feel free to check it before using it, though.

Edit Also included are the separated number groups in all their forwardslash delimited glory

i'm fairly certain that the number are instructions for drawing a picture on a 120x140 grid

put the 120 N-S groups of numbers (1 group per row) down the side of the 120x140 grid. put the 140 E-W groups of number (1 group per column) along the top (maybe from right to left since it says E-W).

i took a quick look and it seems like none of the 120 N-S groups add up to more than 140 (some add to exactly 140) and none of the 140 E-W groups add up to more than 120.

the numbers in each row or column then tells you how many in the row/column is red, blue, or whatever color. for example the first 120 N-W group tells you that there are 13 consecutive red squares followed but 11 blues. but it doesn't tell you the blanks in between. going back and forth between rows and column pretty much lets u figure out where all the colors go. there's probably a name for this type of puzzle

i'm too lazy to figure out/draw the picture myself but i fairly certain that this is the way to go...

ETA: just found out it's called pic-a-pix puzzle (probably better for you to look that up than to read at my crappy explaination above Razz)

I think Grumpyboy has it; here's the wiki article on it.

My friend's wife pointed this one out to me... she's a big sudoku and nonogram fan.

I started working on this puzzle in a spreadsheet a few hours back, because I haven't been able to find an online solver or downloadable program that can output a 140x120 grid. It's been slow and tedious, but fun. If anyone finds a solver that'll handle a puzzle this big, let me know.

Closest I found was Griddlers Deluxe, but it'll only go 80x80. Didn't make the connection to the McGriddle though. Nice Smile

Edited to correct program name

Edit 2: I've made very little progress this way. We should be looking for a program. I'm thinking this is more for fun now, as the 'picture' that results seems intended to help narrow down the location we've already found. Though there is a chance it's related to a different scope... either way, I want to see it, so I'll be back at it later if no one's finished it by then.

Yeah, I keep looking for a solver, too. Most I've found only allow a 50x50 grid. I found http://search.cpan.org/~ishigaki/Games-Nonogram-0.01/ but I have no idea how to install/use the program. I only got as far as extracting the program files (using StuffIt). The description of the program does make it sound like you can make a grid of whatever size you want, though.

This solver works fairly well. As an example of how to enter the information see example below. I made this for the game Eldrith Errors; copy and paste into the text field exactly the way it is written below.

I came across your site in my search for solvers. Thanks for posting. I comma seperated our numbers and entered them into the solver but it came back with several errors. Sad

I might have to go back and check the numbers for errors in spacing. I'm attaching the comma seperated file and the error log.

Those are QR Codes. I found a link to an online translator here: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=18890

For anyone with an iphone, there's a free app called "Barcode" written by Stefan Hafeneger that decodes both Data Matrix and QR barcodes. I used it to decode both by taking a picture of each barcode on the computer screen, and pressing decode. You can find it under Utilities.
