Was EIGHT DAYS

The first email was:

I have a little surprise waiting for you. Eight days doesn't seem too long, now, does it?

(P.S. Watch those cocktails!)

The "from" decodes to "Can'tGoTu@comingsoon.com", which I'm guessing isn't valid.

If you Can'tGoTu my little surprise, maybe you could help find out more about
it.

Oh, my domain (at weebly.com) should help.

Any ideas?

(Yaaaay, first trailhead e-mail!)

Whoa! Just realized I got one of these too.

As for the Weebly site, it's strange that each time you click on the page, the string at the top counts down.
Nevermind, it's just a static countdown timer that refereshes each time you click on the page.

First two hex lines equate to garbage, but there are some ASCII characters in the rest:

00 5f 73 73 63 61 6e 66 24 4c 44 42 4c 31 32 38 = "_sscanf$LDBL128"

*EDIT*
Technical explanation...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
First two lines are zero terminated "C strings", which imply they are pulled from an executable or otherwise compiled application or system.

"locale" and "signal" are C/C++ function calls from network libraries, I believe.

"snprintf" is a C/C++ command to format text for output or other use.

"sscanf" is a C/C++ command to read text in a particular format. The "_sscanf" definition is translated to a a "cdecl" function call, which implies this is still from a object file, or at least a file with object information.

The "$" tags could be object code definitions. I know OBJ files compiled on Windows use similar tags, but I don't know what the tags are in a Unix environment.

Re: Technical explaination.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
So apparently LDBL128 has something to do with programing as well. I'm completely illiterate when it comes to programming though. http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/comphelp/v7v91/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.vacpp7a.doc/compiler/ref/ruoptldl.htm

EDIT: Also, in the picture of the note, the only part of the subject not blacked out is "New Angeles", something to do with http://www.newangelesmonthly.com maybe?

I did some quick searches at NewAngeles and didn't find anything, but only spent a couple minutes on it. The only thing I see that's a bit weird is the grayscale boxes at the top (see below). Each square gives a slightly different valus with my dropper tool, but that's probably jpeg artifact.

It looked to me like writing / an image that was scrambled to keep it from being readable. You know, like on the cop shows where they pixilate the perps' faces.

"Are you a person dreaming you are a computer, or a computer dreaming you are a person?" Or something. I'll go with Occam's Razor on this one. Still, when I look at the literature list, I like a lot of those books, and my main gripe with the Matrix has always been, "if it's that good a simulation there's no real difference, so your choice is steak or pap." Gimme the steak. Especially since there is no way to tell which is the simulation (unless you're Neo, and maybe not even then).

Oh yeah... GWT! (I think an acronym is in order at this point...)

Watching those movies, I always thought the same thing.
"Like OMG! The machines are using us for batteries, BATTERIES! Those evil fiends! How dare they make a program we can live in that's just as if the world never went to crap..."

Sorry. Carry on. Laughing

Edit: Also, I scoured the wiki page's history hoping to find something that stands out, but nothing I can see.

I'm intrigued especially because I've read most of the books listed on the Wikipedia page.

Just an idea, but the wiki page itself may not be IG, it might be just to give a clue on what this is about...maybe this is related to a Virtual Reality game? (or just telling us it's an ARG)

Yes the Wiki page is definitely not in game. I'm pretty sure its just a clue that with in the reality of this ARG we are all in a simulated world or there's going to be a simulated world involved somehow that gets out of hand. Just speculation, but I'm pretty sure it's something along those lines...

This is reminding me a lot about A Mind Forever Voyaging...

Also, the name "New Angeles" sounds like a setting in the future, so it might be a time shifted game, or one of those games in which we stop something in the future through action in the present.

Virtual reality... computer programming... Oh, I'm going to have a field days with these guys. Twisted Evil

*EDIT*
Regarding that new image. The numbers in the graph on the bottom right appear to be...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
X: 4324040433042123033320104432401344
Y: 4203231443421303231320241441442310

I'm trying to map those to the alphabet on the top right and I'm getting garbage. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
