The Pythia (or the priests controlling her) also deliberately gave VERY ambiguous answers to those seeking her advice ... See "Barnum Effect"/"Forer Effect". Wink

One might also argue, that the oracle's sayings merely helped those seeking advice to find the answers they were already bearing inside themselves - or the answers they had expected or hoped for from the beginning (which sometimes resulted in tragic "misinterpretations").

Someone should be at Delphi.
But Alex has been looking forward to joining the team and meeting the other athletes so much - if she didn't travel to Beijing, it certainly would break her heart. Or at least parts of it.

Delphi. Navel of the world. What if we need a central flare at Delphi, so all the flare coordinates make sense?

I don't understand that post at all. Why doesn't Eli just sit down with Ariadne and explain the facts of life, rather than leaving Ariadne to make all those loopy connections with the legend of Delphi. and WHAT is Ariadne's problem? I don't understand what motivates her in the least. She's this weird mix of cheerleader and crazy aunt who lives in the attic.

Why so grumpy, Dante? Isn't the inexplainable a welcome invitation for speculations of all kinds? Smile

Hmm.. here goes another What If...

What If, as the Ariadne from classical Mythology, our Ariadne/Alex is goint to be abandoned while the rest go to their worlds? Maybe she is afraid that if she goes to Delphi she will be left there alone?

Sometimes analogies can lead TOO far ... Who would be her Theseus and who her Dionysos, then?

Eli has always seemed a bit Theseus in my opinion, and maybe Kai could be Alex' Dionysos

Wrote a good-bye mail to Eli after Ariadne's blogpost, assuring him that I considered his decision right and wishing him good luck for the journey. This is what I received in reply this afternoon:
Quote:

Dear Canzonett,

Thank you so much for these kind words.

I will remember them when I stand at the temple and await the end of
our 2008 journey, and the start of a new one...

Sincerely yours, in the this world and perhaps in another,

Eli Hunt
