Let me see if I can help the confusion a bit...

@Coffee: Joshua is a character from Nighthawk's previous ARG, LGLabs.

A quick summary of LGLabs:

LGLabs, or Looking Glass Laboratories, created an AI named Joshua who, as the PM describes it, is "an innocent child trapped in a computer, and society expects him to be a threat." (modeled after SkyNet and the like). The DoD wanted Joshua, though for themselves as a more SkyNet like AI. Anyways, how the game has jumped from Pastries => BlueGen/Lightbringers => NyxTel/Umbrati => Jada/Jessica => Break => GMS => Break => GMS => Joshua (wow, this has been slightly crazy):

As we all know, the pre-game had the sign up page which devolved into pastries. After that, we had the introduction of the Lightbringers and Umbrati, and all the associated puzzles and companies. Next, we were introduced to Jada and Jessica who seem to be potential Lightbringer/Umbrati candidates. Next, due to personal issues, PM had to take a break which was filled by the Pastry ARG. Next, we went back to our usual LB/Umbrati stuff, which went to another short break. Then, the Lightbringer and Umbrati logins seemed to be a bit buggy and there were some error dumps from GMS, a security service used by both the LB and Umbrati, which led us to their website at http://www.grauemacht.com. Most recently, we were able to get into their command console that has dossiers on pretty much everyone in the game, INCLUDING characters from LGLabs. It also seems that there is a dossier on Joshua, which leaves us where we are today. Whew.

Totally wild spec: the reason that the satellite also detected the Umbrati is that LB and Umbrati are kind of different branches of the same tree.

(I know, bad analogy, but I hope you get my meaning...)

Sounds about right to me. Given the transferrence from 002 to 004, is there a 1:1 correspondence/connection between the two sides?

Given that, and the fact that Charon picks them both up equally, I'd assume The Gift is what makes a Lightbringer and a Shadow Maker. It also seems to be transferrable upon death*, or run in families (e.g. Jaana's father, as seen in the evidence long ago).

* This seems to work in 2 ways - the SUBJECT 002 fashion, where the nearest person acquires the gift, or the PMonaghan fashion, where a loved one acquires it. Jaana had the odds on her side for both, which is why she got it from her father.

Well, it seems that way to me as well between the GMS research, and Charon picking up the Umbrati's own people as well.
Though the Charon thing makes me realise that the Umbrati are either really dense or don't even want to consider the fact that there could be a relation between the two sides.
Still, makes you wonder whether Patricks death was set up so he'd transfer his power to Jess to make her even stronger in this "Gift". Maybe GMS wants to get hold of her for themselves...

Well if my math is right in a very short time Nyx is going to launch a satelite and GMS is going to blow it up. Any brilliant ideas on how to stop this? (I THINK GMS is the bad guys maybe we want the satelite destroyed)

The only way I can think of to stop Charon's destruction is to convince the Nyxes to stop the launch. I wish my Umbrati colleagues luck with that. Was it Adam that was trying to get Helen to delay? Shoot him some info?
