Three years of lurking has got to be a record. Does someone keep track of this shtuff?

Logo

Regarding the Jinteki Corp logo:

we have yet to determine if the logo (or logos) had hidden information in them, but if the color version does indeed have binary code imbedded in it, one might be able to extract it using WinRAR.

I don't have a PC so I can't test this myself, but the color version of the logo that was posted for a short time seemed to be a Windows PC bitmap image, so it seems reasonable to assume that PC software was used in the creation.

From what I'm told, most people use RARs when doing this, so get to a computer with WinRAR on it and try right-clicking on the image and use WinRAR to look at it as an archive. Failing that, WinZip might be also be useful...

I've tinkered with the image in Photoshop a bit, but no amount of RGB filtration seemed to show anything useful. (This could be a dead end anyway)

I meant lurking this game. Smile I had a number of posts under a previous name, but couldn't remember what the hell it was after Bees.

As for the image I poked at it with WinRAR and also using TAR in Linux, I didn't see anything there at all. I may be doing something wrong though, can anyone else confirm whether or not there's anything tucked in the image? Oh, opening it up in a text editor didn't yield anything useful either.

The more I plunk away at that logo the more I begin to think we're looking at a red herring. No matter what methods I try to pull some data out of it nothing is working. Granted I'm probably the worst person on the planet with image manipulation/Photoshop. But, I've seen enough posts of others taking this route to comfortably skip any work there.

I have to agree with you, Snic. Though its really puzzling as to why the file is so huge with no extra data...

On top of all of this, the site's still not up yet. Is the PM trying to make this more believable by making us wait an insanely long time for the site to come back up or something? Granted, I don't mind waiting that much longer...I'm just really curious as to why this has taken like two weeks DD:

(either that....or we must be missing something HUGE)

noise

Seems the site is down, but the fourm still up... so I had a crazy thought - why not ask n01se if there is anything up with that image? so I posted the question on the phantom forum. We'll see if he/she replies.

From the earlier post it seems that n01se may be a sort of hacker that likes screwing with the site, has found a few things and may be willing to help.

It's because of that, that I'm convinced this image is "stegged," somehow. (hidden text inside images) I've run a couple steg shareware programs on the logo, but still no luck.

Well, if it is standard steganography there is usually some sort of hash key you need to pull the stegged information out. Is it possible we missed a clue for the key or that the key will be coming in a later clue?

Judging from the fact that Jinteki is still down, I think we're missing something.

(waves to PM - a hint, maybe? D: )

I'm really hoping my worries aren't coming true and this collapsed before it really began. Sad

Updates on Jinteki:

The website is kind of back up as of today, but all that's happened so far is that the text "IT WORKS!" appears. None of the links that appeared previously in this thread work anymore.

There've been a number of security camera images appearing on Fantasy Flight's webpage, as well as a couple of bolded letters over the past day. When taken together, the letters spell "LOUIS". I've emailed "louis at jintekicorp dot com" last night (and this morning with my message in the cipher linked earlier this thread) and have yet to receive an answer, but it hasn't bounced, either. I also emailed Alice asking who Louis was, but have yet to get an answer. Granted, I only thought to email there about an hour ago.

My husband stuck the two security camera images that showed up on Fantasy Flight's site together and got this. This image appeared last night; I spent a while yelling at my computer and came up with this.

oh hey! jinteki! I remember when stuff happened in that game. well cool!

Since stuff is slowly happening, i get the fFeeling they have something a bit larger than normal in mind. Not too surprising, since fFantasy fFlight doesn't really do small games. fFor example: they hired a skilled artist to make this quite cool picture, which ostensibly doesn't show much. In my mind, that suggests we can anticipate more like this.

The scrambled image drives the perfectionist in me crazy. I tried un-jumbling it, but it's too jumbled to line up any more precisely than yours, sithwitch. It makes me a little nuts. There's like a couple pixels around every piece, which makes it not go seamlessly. Someone made this really great image, then a ham-fisted butcher chopped it up so we can't see it properly.

But enough about my neurosis. It's a pretty picture. I see only one thing particularly special in the image: the red window. that's a little odd, isnt it?

Other thoughts:
  • The architecture looks vaguely European.
  • Those thick, black plumes of smoke suggest coal heaters, coming out of an apartment building.
  • It's night, so i think not an office or fFactory (working hours would have ended some while ago).
  • I'm not sure where or when fFire-escapes like that were used, but it's interesting nonetheless.
  • fFrom a strictly in-game point of view, why was this image made? Should we regard this as a Very Important Photo taken of Something Happening? Or is this simply a moment captured in time, if you happened to be walking down the street and look up right then? Was this image made by someone in-game? we can't answer that right now, but it's good to bear in mind.

Lastly, good fFind Sithwitch. I had pretty much given up on jinteki. so, thanks fFor waking me up. Cheers Smile

Yay! A reply!

Something that I should have mentioned, the pictures that my husband smashed together (the ones with the camera numbers and timestamps) had the url address "suspect" and "surveillence". Digging through our email convos, and the addresses of the individual pictures are:

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/jinteki-private/eastside-security-camera.jpg

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/jinteki-private/eastside-security-camera_secondary-feed.jpg

There was also:

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/jinteki-securityfeed.html

which was found to be an anagram for this link:

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/jinteki-private/suspect.html

What my husband and I are thinking is that it's a surveillance footage of a suspect named "Louis". We're waiting for more information as it comes, and poking at what we have so far. And waiting for emails.

Oh man, I know re: that picture! I was trying to match it up perfectly the first three times I edited it all together and had a notion of using a healing brush to fix it, but I'm not accustomed to GIMP (I've used Photoshop for years but no longer have access to a copy Sad ) and nearly ended up giving up for the evening. Those little white splotches and pixel lines are driving me crazy, and for a while I was convinced that someone had overlaid squares on top of another section in a special effort to drive me insane.
