Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum. I google the debate of this dharma "cheat," and this forum was one of the first. To be exact, Sassy, your post appeared.
And I love it!!!!
Excellent!

The lines among the three camps of thought are so clearly drawn.
I can't believe I didn't notice it before!!!

Well, I did the cheat. Interesting. I guess now we will see if it makes a difference.

at first I was so annoyed when I saw people were cheating. but after reading a bit and realizing, time IS the essence, it must be on purpose. therefore I "cheated" (or rather played by the correct secret rules, therefore not actually cheating) and got a 99.

Did anyone recruit anyone else? I wonder if this is the main point, the leadership board will be possibly be based on that. It says you get a point with dharma if you do. Also, in relationship to "challenging a friend" (recruiting) you only get this option after you complete a test. if you cancel your test or just log in and go to test, the challenge a friend button is not there.

I personally don't think Dharma wants us to cheat. I think the cheat was put in there by the guy on the inside. Forget his name now.

Yep, the more you get into ARG's(if you are into ARG's in general, not just the LOST related ones), you will find that things that would, on the face on them, be considered cheating or unfairly gaining the upper hand, are actually a part of the story/game dynamics. Because it was clear that the "cheat" was almost certainly in-game, I decided to play along and show Dharma that "moral flexibility" was one of my---ahem, strong points. Wink

Maybe, maybe not. I think it probably is not the *main* point of the game, as that would seriously cripple those of us(like me) who don't really have anyone to "recruit". It is probably there simply as an incentive to get your friends into the game. I could be wrong, of course. Wink

Well, isn't the point of this entire game to recruit new people to reconsitute the DHARMA Initative? In this game, getting as many people as you can may be the main way to win.

And yeah, if it is the main way to win, i'd lose too...Sad

But, wouldn't the quality of those recruits, rather than the sheer number of those recruits be more advantageous to Dharma? Perhaps not, I don't know for sure if that would be the case because I have not been a Lost fan for long(I'm just now starting on the second season DVD set, and will be furiously ploughing through season 3 soon...), so I am in the dark about a lot of things Lost related, first simply because I did not care, now because I don't want to be spoiled on the awesome plot. Given the site problems that have probably stemmed from being unable to handle the volume of traffic so far, an attempt to increase numbers seems downright stupid.

Yet,Master A, challenging an "unsuspecting" friend while monitoring their futile efforts to better ones 99 and impartially observing their onset of insanity does adhere to the Dharma research pattern.... Cool

Oh, I too have zero dharma points (and I cheated) - I am in group Pandora.

So everyone else, did you "cheat" and get a zero, did you not cheat and get a point?

I wish we knew how many points the leader board people had so we know how far one can earn in a single test.

***Edit Ok, just read the "what is this?" description under the leader board. Basically it says they are people with the most dharma points. To earn dharma points, recruit a friend and take part in any extra tasks from the Head of Recruiting, Hans Van Eeghen.

So, if we can't recruit, we are stuck at the bottom, doomed to be a Workman? well anything to get on the island I suppose.

so far from what I've gathered from others, they got points from recruiting others to the game. it seems that one recruit gains you 10 points. the people that I've talked to all had 10 points and some cheated yet some didn't. now I would be happy to figure out how many points people have on the leader board. Enjoyed using the "cheat". I'm naturally curious and want Hans to believe I'm as ruthless as all get-out... Rolling Eyes

My group is Pandora(0 Dharma Points). However, I also saw elsewhere that some who used the "cheat" are assigned to Ganymede which seems to be the only other group atm.
