[AA][PUZZLE][NEW] Parvulus Patroni

As mentioned in the main thread lostgunslinger noticed a new comment on Mikey's blog that appeared to be spam from a security camera company. However, the comment lead to a blogspot website called Parvulus Patroni. Lostgunslinger also determined that the strange image on that site was stegged and with the password of CHEESE (from the original comment on Mikey's blog) pulled out a bunch of gibberish.

It was suggested that the cipher wheel may be in play here and sure enough...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Basically you go line up the letters in the code, then by the number of . before the set count down or up that number of rows (I THINK the down and up alternated by my brain got fuzzy near the end). That gives clear text. Repeat.

After an absurd amount of time spinning the wheel and some cramped fingers, I got this message.

Amun wrote:
THE WORLD IS FULL OF MYSTERIES

YOU CONSIDER YOUR ENCOUNTER WITH THE AWLYN CHILD A COINCIDENCE BUT I ASSURE YOU THIS
TURNING OF YOUR LIFE WAS FATED WE HAVE NEED OF SOMEONE WHO HAS YOUR SKILLS

MICHAEL SURRY PROTECTOR OF CHILDREN I CALL UPON YOU TO AID US

MANY OF OUR OWN CHILDREN HAVE DISAPPEARED AND THESE DISAPPEARANCES HAVE GONE WITHOUT REMARK ON THE PART OF THOSE WHO SHOULD PROTECT THEM

YOU HAVE PLEDGED YOUR LIFE TO PROTECTING CHILDREN

WILL YOU HELP US

I'm emailing Mikey now with our discovery and the translation of the code. Then I'm resting my fingers.

Puzzle Solve High!!! No way I'm sleeping tonight! WOOO!

I created a separate thread in case more 'entries' pop up on this particular blog as a manner of communication with us. Mods, if you disagree with my decision, feel free to merge it.

Interesting. I suppose the Dragon Council is the group meant to protect the children but who're apparently not doing a great job of it.

So I guess Parvulus Patroni is Amun? He was supposed to contact Mikey after the ritual, and this message uses the wheel.

ETA: Nevermind, missed some posts in the original thread about this that already mentioned Amun. Though it could be either him directly or one of his "agents."

Actually I think MIKEY is the Parvulus Patroni. The Blog's heading reading that is simply shouting "Hey Mikey!" Look at the text of the message and how many times it calls him a protector of child or says he's pledged to protect children or any of the other variations.

Hmm, so then Mikey is leaving messages for himself using the decryption wheel sent by Amun? I suppose the question then would be, is he not aware of doing this or is he pretending to be another person for a specific reason?

Obviously we can't say it's impossible at the moment, but so far it seems odd that he would do something so round-about.

No no no.. The message was FROM Amun to Mikey... but the blog's heading simply refers to Mikey. Its like calling out a persons name to get their attention. To Amun, Surry's primary trait is that he is a Protector of Children.

Ah, I see what you mean. So the Parvulus Patroni is not the person sending the messages, but the person the messages are addressed TO.

That makes sense.

I keep wondering about that big guy with all the tattoos that Mikey "hallucinated." Amun? Dragon Council member/agent? It seems like too odd of a detail to put in without it meaning anything...

Tattoo guy is a character in an unrelated (as far as I know) ARG http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=26261

The connection is that the Luce's Lover trailhead was this tattooed muscle guy that showed up in Boston during ARGfest. I think Mikey mentioning it was just a nod to the Aporia Agathon project players that went to ARGfest.

Thanks! There are so many of these things going on now, it's a bit tricky to know what might relate to other games. Embarassed

Well Mikey was in Boston at the time, remember. Maybe he actually SAW Banana Hammock man, before or after he walked into the conference... like in the elevator or hallway or something and just assumed he was a hallucination. I mean.. if you were having hallucinations and just saw that guy in the hotel (and weren't an ARGer) wouldn't you think you were hallucinating?

But yes, the point is that Luce's Lovers Eye and Aporia Agathon (we need a better name... Awlyn Children maybe?) are not related

[off topic][rant]Mikey may have been in Boston at the same time as tattoo man but technically they live in separate realities. Unless, ARGfest has some weird properties that allow multiple realities to converge. While that sounds really cool and would make for one damn interesting game, I think it was more like I said, a nod to fellow ARGfest goers. Or if you prefer, tattoo man was in fact a hallucination. Or if you really want to go off the deep end, Mikey's possession allowed him insight into alternate realities that to his unfettered mind he perceived to be hallucinations.[/rant][/off topic]

[counterpoint]then again, we as the players can percieve both worlds, do we have special abilities? if TINAG does it have to be a separate reality/universe? if so, then every ARG would have to explain how this other reality has contacted us, and how it is the players can percieve and interact with the alternate reality.
i believe the alternate reality part is left to the discretion of the PM, if its a star wars ARG, then its gotta be in an alternate reality, but if the players are gonna be reading blogger accounts, sending and recieving emails from the characters, and possibly packages, then if its an alternate reality, how would we have the same postal service or internet access?

i believe the 'alternate reality' part of ARG is determined by the storyline the pms create, otherwise, everything else falls under chaotic fiction and the TINAG rule. therefore, surry could have been in boston, and seen the tattooed guy. because if TINAG, then the PMs for this game dont exist, and therefore werent at ARGfest, that doesnt mean that other ARGers couldnt have been there

alternatively, maybe Surry saw the ARGFest signs, before you knew what an ARG was, would you have had a clue?[/endcounterpoint]

btw, does TINAG or TOS state, specifically, that it is required that within all games, cfs and alternate realities, that ARGs, and CFs cannot exist?

Hmm...good points. The way I see it is that when we immerse ourselves in a game whether ARG or CF, we step into and become characters in the reality set by the PMs. The world that we know exists only in the sense that it may be parallel to our own. I agree that the PMs set the rules. I have played games where it is stated by the PMs that they are speaking from an alternate reality while we sit comfy in our own. I don't believe that is the case with AA project, though.

That's how I keep it in nice and organized in my mind, anyway. I'm sure there are many, many views and we could go on debating. I'm sure there's a better topic if someone wants to point me in that direction.

While I definitely agree that there Mikey is being called upon as a protector of children, I think that Parvulus Patroni refers to Amun's organization, because Patroni is plural, Parvulus being singular, meaning "Child Protectors". The only case where Patroni would be singular is if it was possessive, which would change the meaning to "child of the protector", I think the former sounds better, so I think that Amun's group is one of two things, either they are the secret group helping Diego and Isabella's father, which would mean they wold be asking "Will you help us protect the children?", or they may be Diego and other kids contacting him in the way of "Will you help/protect us?"

Anyways, those are just my rambling theories

my other thing i've been thinking about that i'd like to run past you guys (and girls) is from the letter from Diego's dad in the treehouse...

I think we're dealing with at least 3 separate organizations here, the one that took their father captive, the one that freed him, and the Dragon Council. I kinda don't think the Council is who captured him b/c he seems to refer to them as separate entities, although that could be wrong. If Amun and the Parvulus Patroni fit in here, I would say they'd be the helping group, although they could just be an entirely new group. And Diego and Jan also mentioned something about starting some sort of group ... I'm probably making this way more complex than it is, but that's why I wanted to see what you all think...
