well if this is a well designed game then you're in for a treat. Word to the wise though... It WILL consume you if you let it. With Metacortechs I probably spent about 10 or more hours a day devoted to the game. But it was worth it.

I think this is shaping up to be a release weekend. Since so many people have the SEND command figured out now it'd be a perfect way to kick off the game by dropping a crapload of files in our lap at the same time. Everyone on an even playing field so no one person strongarm the game by getting too far ahead and withholding information or worse, spoiling. It's called pacing the game. The PMs see fit to design it to where you can only get up to a certain point before they drop you some more info.

Nvr really heard of anyone withholding info in ARGs unless it was something specific to teams etc... Even then sometimes here people still help each other out.

We had some problems with Metacortechs where 2 people collaborated with each other and found about 3 additional sites without telling the group thinking they were going to be able to stay ahead of the game. The whole time they were trying to crack the new sites they were pretending on the boards that they were just as stuck as we were. It wasn't until they tried to bring a 3rd person in that the whole thing blew wide open. There was a bunch of tension for about the next week because everyone was paranoid about everyone else holding onto information as bargaining chips. Sad It was sad really...

Possible Clue

i was uploading the original MP3 file to the wiki and it mentioned that it had some ID3 tags. Sure enough this file is marked as having a genre of Blues...
possible oversight? password clue? thoughts? anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

LOL! I haven't seen that movie in a while..

Anyway, I noticed that too. Maybe it's a clue, or maybe it just has something to do with the song that Gracey was singing..

I have no idea.

ANNOUNCEMET:

This seems to be moving along at a pace now so last night Pancito and I set up a wiki to start documenting the Anglevine ARG. I'd rather having all the infomation in place when this thing decides to truly go live. You can find the wiki here:

http://anglevine.wikidot.com/

You can view the wiki without having to log in but you must sign up to be a member of wikidot if you want to contribute (please!!!)

Once you've signed up navigate to the wiki and join that site. Password is gracey .

For right now since we're in the pregame stages the only admins are going to be myself and Pancito but I can assure you that we will approach people when the time comes with invitations to become admins. Please feel free to contact me through UF or AIM if you have any questions.

Enjoy!

does anyone else get the feeling that we missed something on the file name of the MP3 we received?

my_sojd87yhfbcn_78YHNBUJ_hybnm_.mp3

so far all the email we've received in hex, even the last Gracey communication that Pancito received
, have been VERY precise. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm having a hard time swallowing that this name is TOTALLY random...

I'll be back to the computer in about an hour or two. I've got a service call I've got to go run and take care of. (Stupid CCTV System Evil or Very Mad )

If things start happening someone twitter me or shoot me a message on AIM. Don't wanna miss anything Wink

@MatrixofReality-- I totally agree. I've been rolling the filename around in my head for a little while, and I've tried heaps of different ciphers, but all to no avail..

I also suspect that there is something about that digiscribe number..

BTW, when I downloaded that mp3 (AugustaNights' post), the filename was my_sojd87yhfbcn_78YHNBUJ_jybnm__1219707570.mp3. What's with the numbers appended to the filename?

looks like a timestamp, probably added by the forum software - I wouldn't worry about it.

But yes, I am of the opinion we may have missed something in the filename - but gawd knows what! There is some similarity here: sojd87yhfbcn with 78YHBUJ

-----
So, assuming these files are in folders, how about we send some commands to find out the web address for them, if they are web accessible.

Perhaps start a server? Find out the ip address of graceys machine?

Wait, there were extra numbers? I just re-downloaded it from gmail and I didn't see any. Like chippy said - it was probably just some sort of time stamp.

Nice job on the Wiki Matrix! I've signed up and if I get the chance I'll help update it every once and awhile.

As for the filename...I agree that its definetly not random. It may be encoded in hex...however the letters wouldn't match up, unless there's some sort of code within it. Something to tinker with as we wait for GDOS to respond I suppose Very Happy

And @chippy - Some people have already sent commands asking for copies of the files, so right now we all are just waiting. I don't think they're web accessible...but if somebody's really bored, I guess they could check domain names again (lol Very Happy)

I mean sending a command like "ipconfig" ... which I've just done Smile
it's a windows dos command to get the ip address, hopefully.

I did that night before last and still no joy. Which brings up a point. I have to say that I am impressed? with how minimalist this is. So far everything has been run through one email account. That's like...wow. Sort of puts to rest the idea that you have to spend a lot of money or even programmer skillz to make an interesting game. This may not get huge at all (though who knows), but I still feel like it will be a good game as long as it keeps moving forward.

So yeah... I'm working on the pregame summery and gathering up some fact when I ran across something that I wanted to bounce off of everyone. In the first two letters from Gracey she refers to her territory as SAM-2. However, in every email thereafter and the audio file we have it's referred to as SA-2. Are we supposed to chalk this one up to oversight?

Just bored and bouncing ideas...

I was thinking about Anglevine United and how I abbreviated it AU on the wiki when it occurred to me the AU is Gold.
If you take the audio file name and cross out all the single letter elements you're left with:

mjd8778Jm

Anyone wanna take a stab at that. The only thing I tried running it through so far is Base64 and got nada
