NBC GIVES 'HEROES' AUDIENCE A 360 DEGREE EXPERIENCE BEGINNING ON JANUARY 22

NBC Digital Entertainment To Launch Comprehensive Interactive Extension For Scripted Series Sponsored In Part By Nissan

Burbank, CA - January 19, 2007 - NBC today unveiled its extensive "TV 360" realization for the breakout-hit "Heroes." The digital extensions, which launch with the return of original episodes of the show on Monday, January 22nd, will include exclusive and original content made available on several alternative platforms, sponsored in part by Nissan.

The announcement was made by Jeff Gaspin, President NBC Universal Cable Entertainment, Digital Content and Cross Network Strategy.

"This is particularly exciting because it's the most developed TV 360 application we've created for a scripted series, and the first to use this level of interactivity," said Gaspin. "'Heroes' has proven itself a hit on-air and online, and these extensions of rich, original content will allow our audience unprecedented access to new levels of the show as they dig deeper."

Beginning on January 22nd, viewers will be invited to experience "Heroes" in a whole new way. As they investigate on-air clues and learn new truths about the characters, their involvement will lead them to new platforms, including interaction with unique mobile content; a WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) site that one of the characters gives them access to; a special "two screen" application which provides a real-time experience; access to the fictional Primatech Paper company's phone system; and significantly increased original content on NBC.com including secret files, hidden sites and original commentary from cast members added to each streaming episode.

"This opportunity is the next step in continuing Nissan's successful partnership with Heroes," said Melissa Adams, Senior Manager of Media, Nissan North America. "'Heroes' has been key to helping Nissan establish its new entry compact car, Versa. Heroes 360 will only further enhance the awareness of Nissan's innovative products."

As the season of "Heroes" continues, the "Heroes 360" extensions will evolve with new areas of exploration each week. OMD will be handling the media buying and implementation for Nissan.

From creator/writer Tim Kring (NBC's "Crossing Jordan") comes the Golden Globe nominated "Heroes," an epic drama that chronicles the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities. "Heroes" has been honored recently with a People's Choice Award, an AFI Award and a Multicultural Prism Award, as well as nominations at the Golden Globe Awards, NAACP Image Awards, WGA Awards and Satellite Awards. As a total eclipse casts its shadow across the globe, a genetics professor (Sendhil Ramamurthy, "Blind Guy Driving") in India is led by his father's disappearance to uncover a secret theory -- there are people with super powers living among us. A young dreamer (Milo Ventimiglia, "Gilmore Girls") tries to convince his politician brother (Adrian Pasdar, "Judging Amy") that he can fly. A high school cheerleader (Hayden Panettiere, "Ice Princess") learns that she is totally indestructible while trying to relate to her father (Jack Coleman, "Dynasty") who has a keen interest in people with special abilities. A Las Vegas single mother (Ali Larter, "Final Destination") struggles to make ends meet to support her young son (Noah Gray-Cabey, "My Wife & Kids") and discovers that her mirror image has a secret. A fugitive from justice (Leonard Roberts, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") continues to baffle authorities who twice have been unable to contain him. A gifted artist (Santiago Cabrera, "Empire"), whose drug addiction is destroying his life and relationship with his girlfriend (Tawny Cypress, NBC's "Third Watch"), can paint the future. A down-on-his-luck Los Angeles beat cop (Greg Grunberg, "Alias") can hear people's thoughts, which puts him on the trail of an elusive serial killer. In Japan, a young man (Masi Oka, NBC's "Scrubs") develops a way to stop time through sheer will power. Their ultimate destiny is nothing less than saving the world. Joining Kring as executive producer are Dennis Hammer (NBC's "Crossing Jordan") and Allan Arkush (NBC's "Crossing Jordan"). The drama is produced by NBC Universal Television Studio in association with Tailwind Productions.

From this press release, it sounds like another ARG based on a mysterious tv show is in the works! I can't wait to see what they plan to do with this. Smile

I would say - not an ARG. Another extended reality, such as Lost and Regenesis. 'ARGish' if you will Confused
They're just taking additional content and spreading out across a few media. 'Original commentary from cast members' makes it all seem ultimately more like very complex easter eggs; just an extension of the show.

Still, it'll be fun to follow and check out regularly... Heroes is gareat!

True, it does seem like a "Lost Experience" type game. However, the press release gives me hope that it'll be good.

That, to me, sounds very interesting and very, as you said, "ARGish". I guess we just have to wait and see.

And yeah, Heroes does rock. Smile

It would be nice if we could post clues and such here so I don't have to wade through all the noise at the Heroes forum. </lazy>

I dont' see this as an ARG at all.

Since there is no character interaction where what we tell them and what we do can be part of the story, I see this as an "Experience". We will get extra content and get to "eavesdrop" on stuff not seen on the TV show, but it's not fitting my personal definition of an ARG (which requires story, plot, character interaction - i.e. players can influence the story, mystery or purpose for the interactions - i.e. why are we interacting with these characters, etc).

I hope some of the WAP content is shared cause I refuse to pay extra money to turn my phone into a poor version of a tv screen just for a deleted scene or some extra background on a character.

The online comic books they did during the first half of the season were interesting, but they were available to anyone with internet access - and could be printed out to share with those who don't have it.

Slightly off-topic question here, but thought RegenesisTV was integrated into the broadcast show, to the extent that actions in the game were reflected in the TV script. While it might have been "on rails", it was not an extended and separate experience, but part of the immersive reality of the show. I would call RegenesisTV an ARG.

(I hate calling anything ARGish. TLE was part ARG, but had other non-ARG phases.)

Primatech Paper

Looks like NBC is jumping into an ARG type experience to promote Heroes. They're launching Heroes 360 tonight, and already, the Heroes 360 website ( http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/360/ ) has a strange fake looking ad for a company called Primatech Paper (since 1962) with a phone number.

1-800-PRIMA16. Call it, and you'll be asked for an "access code". They'll probably seed that some time during the episode tonight. Clicking the ad brings you to http://www.primatechpaper.com/ but the site doesn't appear to be live yet.

Seems live now.

I called the number on the main page (1-800-PRIMA16), and pressed 3 for personel, I was instructed to go to job opportunities on the website and use the code "MT36". That brings you to a job application screen where you have to provide a bunch of information, and take a survey.

I also texted 'PAPER' to 46622, and I immediately received a text back

velly interesting... I don't live in the US. And I don't currently have a cell #. Crying or Very sad

I signed up anyway. Put my home # for the cell #, but said not to send any SMS messages, just emails. State was req'd, so I just put NY and 90210 for the zip (with my full address, and city/prov/country in the city field).

So we'll see what happens. *shrug* best I can hope for is email and/or possibly mail if they realize I'm not in NY and still include Canadians in the experience...

Not sure what it is if anything but it is a download, and I can't open it. thought I would throw it out there to see if anyone else can open it

EDIT: my text said "You'll be hearing from me soon. We have a lot to do together"

my email Thank you for your interest in Primatech Paper. We will be in contact once we evaluate your application.

definitely seems like it will move kinda slow.

Several of the mentions of "in a week" or "in a few weeks" so far. One came from a Primatech text message telling me a Primatech rep would contact me in a few weeks.

However, one thing I did like was a text I received almost immediately after filling out the survey and form.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You'll be hearing from me soon. We have a lot to do together.

I'm excited about this. Regardless of slow it may go.

During the show

During the show tonight it said to text "APPLY" to 46622. I don't have the ability to text, so if somebody else would be nice enough to, that would be great. My guess is that you get another text from the "mystery hacker"

I called the number before checking the website or sending the text message, but I've done that all as of now. Hopefully next week (or sometime soon) we get Mr. Bennett's access code
