[TRAILHEAD?] A:LA:RM - THE END IS NEAR

Yo, Unfiction peeps. Some of you may remember from back when the Cloverfield ARE was going on, but uni took over my life and I've been unfortunately absent. I'm back, though, and with something interesting (apologies if this has already been posted, there were no search results for A:LA:RM and over 60 pages for "The End Is Near"). I was alerted to this website - http://www.theendisnear.co.uk/ (yes, it's British) - on a British film forum by someone who thought this was connected to the upcoming film 2012, directed by Roland Emmerich (see the post here - http://www.empireonline.com/forum/tm.asp?m=1893088&mpage=1&key=&NID=22601#1893089). However, I doubt this.

Basically, the page has clocks for London, New York and Beijing ticking, a fuzzy globe circling behind it, and the world population down the bottom - 6,670,215,902. New York is on approximately 7:30pm as I write this. Then, you click on the area of this, and the clocks spin backwards, the population number drops quickly, the times alternate between the rapidly-spinning-back time and A:LA:RM in red, and it starts getting very loud, ending in one of those steretypical horror movie ethereal scream things. It finishes with a blackened globe, asking for your name and email address, and The End Is Near on the bottom. Enter your name and email, and it sends an email to you from no-replySPLATtheendisnear.co.uk, as shown here -

I ran a whois on the site (as you do, which can be seen in full here - http://whois.europeregistry.com/displayWhois.php?zone=[DOMAIN]), and this is what it came up with -

Now, if this is an ARG, it's relatively well-designed for a person named Jorg Tittel, living in what sounds like a council flat. Thoughts, anyone?

What am I doing wrong? When I click, the clocks go backwards and A:LA:RM starts popping up, and the background glow behind the globe gets very bright, but then it goes back to what it was before. The clock keep going backwards w/ A:LA:RM, but the other stuff doesn't happen... the globe stays lit, and no signup form. Also, the population doesn't go down.

Okay, I just noticed something about the guy who posted the website on the Empire UK Forums - his name is ALARM. Figuring this might be a lead, here's the post first (posted 20/5/2008 at 12:27:19 PM) -

OFFICIAL WEBSITE?

This looks like a cryptic site of some kind. Quite cool... but it's a .co.uk address - so perhaps a British project instead?

Now, this has very little to do with the thread subject - "Cusack Stars In Emmerich's 2012". Adding two and two together, I took a little look at his member profile -

So he joined around 6 days ago. And those other two posts - both under the thread "New Red Band Trailer For The Happening", one posted 20/5/2008 at 12:29:08 PM, the other posted the same day at 12:40:03 PM, and both reading this -

... and it won't be the plants' fault.

So this guy looks to be the puppetmaster, our Jorg Tittel, and we can contact him at any time by just PMing him in that board. Though, to be honest...I'm frightened to. This possible-ARG seems not quite right.

EDIT: petunia, I don't exactly know what's wrong, but it's still working for me and getting to the sign-in thing. Maybe it's a problem on your end only.

DOUBLE EDIT: Here's the URL to his "My Empire" page - http://www.empireonline.com/myempire/default.asp?memid=180747.

The plants' fault, eh? This could have something to do with the new M. Night Shyamalan movie "The happening" About a year ago when the movie was in pre-production there was this HUGE rumour that the crisis in the movie was that "plants were going to release a toxin that would wipe out the human race"

Maybe that Tagline is referring to that?

Thoughts?

P.S I've totally signed up for this one too. I love frightening ARGs. Good Times.

^It's absolutely referring to the movie, but not so sure that it's actually tied in to the film. It's a reference to Shyamalan's movie, but his first post was selling it as a possible official website to 2012. I think he's just using the common knowledge such a forum would have of The Happening's basic plot and playing on that. I think it would have to be something film-related, though, for him to be going to such a forum with the trailhead.

EDIT: Ok, I PMed him. The message was as follows - "So, if it isn't the plants' fault, whose fault is it? When will we know?"

Maybe he'll give us a cookie to bite at.

EDIT: Another thing - a friend working on this got another friend working on this - after the f.o.a.f. did a Googlesearch on Jorg Tittel, they got this - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1361000/. Pretty good suggestion that this is a movie.

EDIT: Okay, techy friend-of-a-friend revealed more stuff I hadn't noticed. The clocks each have a single number on them - New York has 9, London has 11, Beijing has 4. Also, the lights on the globe seem to be pretty strong.

Alright, so after viewing the source of the page, I came across the data coming from this site: http://www.bcsarts.co.uk Which appears to be a front as a web design site. Since no respectable web design team wouldn't put a portfolio part on their site.

The data is coming from a folder titled "tein" which in acronym, that's "The End is Near" and a Google search brings up car schools and what not. So that's another lead, albeit one that I doubt will go anywhere.

There's also the fact that the filename hints at other version of the flash file that's the gloe and count down, since it's "theendisnear_final.swf". So randomally guessing other words or what not should introduce another result. Just going straight to the folder this is coming from shows an older version of the countdown, but nothing new. Just commas and better quality really.

Nothing much else changes during the count down other then the population counting down as the clocks go downwards as well, while flashing "A:LA:RM". As it has been pointed out, the lights are strangely bright. Which leads me to believe it's something to do with humanity's dependency on technology. Possible lead.

There's a lot to still figure on all this, but so far it seems pretty straight forward for a movie stunt.

EDIT: The host of the "site designer" is hosted at, or at least registered domain, at http://www.ukhost4u.com/. The bcsarts.co.uk and the dehavillandmedia.co.uk are both the same site, and both registered by different sites. And theendisnear.co.uk is registered at a different place as well. Although the first two were registered on the same date.

I am going to say that http://bcsarts.co.uk/ is aclutally a legit company. I checked the address on Google maps and it pulls up what looks to be an office type complex. But I can not find the number in whitepages.co.uk so I could be wrong.

I guess I can try emailing the address on the web page.

Edit: Email sent out.

Hello sir or madam,

I was wondering if I can get some information on what it is that your company does, and what you mean by "dynamic websites".

Thank you for your time

Signed up, looks interesting. Given it's a .uk addy I doubt it's any sort of film tie in, although could be for some upcoming British film? (Just basing this on the fact the leads were posted on a film site)
