Trout if someone has done this already, but I've been searching the page header text for any meaning to be found. Some are clearer than others, and I don't know if anything is actually related, but

Stare into us: http://www.metanexus.net/magazine/ArticleDetail/tabid/68/id/10274/Default.aspx "Wilson argues that we should stand resolute before the abyss and embrace the melancholy it produces (let the abyss stare into us, as Nietzsche might put it). We should recognize that wholeness eludes us."

There were also a few book quotes from google books that came up in a search, but none of them struck me as especially relevant.

Perchance to dream: Shakespeare, from "To be or not to be" speech in Hamlet

Speak in rhythm: http://www.metrolyrics.com/foreign-language-lyrics-anberlin.html There is a song that goes Boys Speak in Rhythm and Girls in Code. Might have been a clue about using different languages to speak to different people?

Thee Vision Tactics seems to just be an anagram.

I have no idea what to do with stirring.

In an unrelated question, what language do people use to speak to Margaret?

Jiangling, thanks for the Wilson quote and welcome. I don't recall that we found that one.

We speak to Margaret in German translated to Morse code. Both Trillian, who is in Germany, and amandel speak German, so they will likely have the clearest communication with her, but all of us can try.

Glad to have been of service, then. I had been hoping that the header text bits would have more in common, but no such luck. =/

Thanks for the tip on how to talk to Margaret.

Jiangling, in case you or anyone else who's new needs to know how to communicate with the spirits, there's a stickied reference thread at the top of the page that includes that info (forgot to mention it when I posted earlier).

Assorted observations (some or all of which might have already been mentioned at some point. Sorry if they were):

-title of mp3 on the hallway page is "mataleon." I tried adding that as an extension to the voicesinthestatic site in various ways with no results. There is a www.mataleon.com that is just an image, but I have no idea whether it's related. Mataleon is the name of a musical artist.

-mp3 on the equinox page is called equinoxtranmission2. Has it changed?

-source code on the original page includes "wearethetasteofyourfearthetasteoffearlikemetal" It doesn't seem to be a quote from anything. There are also links to the four other pages we know about on crosses and space for 8 more links on crosses and one on a circle or 0. Twelve crosses plus the circle is thriteen. Any significance? I thought it would correspond to the 11 rings, but doesn't seem like it. Crosses leading to the hallway and equinox pages are on the same line. Relevant?

-source code on the door page includes "i am the overthrown. i am the overthrone. i am echo." and the number "11" four times on successive lines (in a vertical line above the image if you highlight), much like the crosses on the original page.

-source code on hallway includes "." six times in the same format as the "11"s (in a vertical line above the image) + alt text on the image (but I know that's been covered)

-anything interesting in the equinox code seems to have been covered, though I wonder why this page refreshes itself and the others don't.

Haven't gotten to playing with the audio files yet, but that's my next chore. Hope something in that was useful.

I've sent emails to echo, margaret, and mona, but haven't gotten anything back yet.

Yeah, I found it after you had posted before. Thanks though.

Welcome on board Jiangling!

Tresbiens, sorry to disagree Embarassed , but I don't think Margaret wants mails in German. I tried to contact her in German two times - once with Morse and once without - and never got an answer. I can't find the posts, but as far as I remember she only replied to English + Morse and so far we don't have a confirmation that 'our' Margaret is the Margarete Petrautzki that worked with Konstantin Raudive.

Nice to meet you, Trillian.

Since I'm new here, is there anything specific you guys want me to work on aside from stuff I've already been poking at?

Also, any thoughts on new pages? I've been trying various extensions on the main page and on the URLs that are still open to further pages, but haven't found anything yet.

Jiangling, it's possible we haven't discovered everything on the mp3 files. If you want to take another listen to the most recent one, that would be great. Thanks!

Most recent meaning equinoxtransmission2? I messed with that one a bit. Turning it backwards helps. Forward, I got weird noises followed by laughing and "we love the distortion" several times. Backward, I got "we love the distortion" three times (the ones that are weird when it's played forward) and the screamy noises sometimes sound a little bit like "help" to me, but I might be making that up.

There's something else that might be words in between the distortion bit and the screaming bit, but I haven't managed to isolate anything yet.

How does that match up with what other people have gotten out of this?

Alright, listened again, and I'm not convinced there's actually anything else there. I think I was getting tripped up on the backwards laughter. The "we" in my former comment might be "you" though. I'm not sure.

If there's any other kind of message in this, I'm not getting it to come into focus.

For the record, this is the page that includes the post by abandonedpa about the investigation of Byberry begun by Ginny Thornburg, the wife of the governor at the time. It's near the bottom of the page.
http://www.opacity.us/forum/index.php?topic=1464.15 Think I'll make another stab to find out about the planned memorial. ETA: I registered at Opacity and asked if anyone knows the status of the memorial that was planned.

This link seems to be broken. Confused

There's a site problem with Opacity's forums because I can find four references to Ginny Thornburg, but none of the links are working now. Here's one that works:
http://www.opacity.us/site10_philadelphia_state_hospital_byberry.htm

At the moment all of the forums there appear to be down--it happens.

I thought that might be the case. Thanks for the link that does work.

A couple of interesting notes I've dug up. First of all, this link:

There's mention of a fire in 1885 that killed a bunch of patients, which might be the reference in question here. What I find more interesting, though, is the account on the following page about the spirit boy and the burnt room. It's a chilling story if nothing else, but it corresponds well enough that it makes me suspicious there's a connection.

I really think this post might be more about what happened after Mona died than while Mona was alive though. "More ashes on mona ashes" seems to me like it might be mourning the destruction of Byberry. A bunch of websites note that Byberry was repeatedly victim of arson and vandalism after it was abandoned. Maybe Mona died in the fire that happened while it was active, and then it's just further hurt as people destroy her former home? I had thought the message might reflect that sentiment of being attached to the place, and then the story of the boy in the burnt room makes me feel it even more strongly.

I've also been poking through info about building plans on the former hospital site, but haven't found anything terribly interesting in that regard yet.

[edit]I found an email that might be useful if people want to campaign OOG for a Byberry memorial, which after the researching I've been doing feels fitting to me. I wouldn't have been aware of all this if not for our story here, but Byberry was a real place and I think if there are any actual spirits floating about, they would mimick Mona's sentiment.

I got the email from the Somerton .net Association. The email is infoSPLATsomerton.net. I sent the following:

Quote:
I'm not sure if you are the right people to contact about this, but I wanted my voice to be heard and this was the first contact I found that seemed relevant.

I want to start by saying that I have no problem with the redevelopment of the land previously occupied by Byberry Hospital. From what I know, the buildings were falling apart and had been victims of vandalism many times over. But I feel there is something to be said for the memory of the site. It's one thing to tear down the buildings and move on, but another to forget about the history of the place. It isn't a good history, and it shouldn't be glorified, but it should be memorialized. Are there any plans to erect a memorial or at least hold some kind of ceremony in memory of all the people whose lives were tied up in the institution?

I feel it's only fair to the memory of the people who lived there to do something that keeps them from just being shoved under the carpet. The buildings are gone, and that's alright. But it shouldn't be forgotten. New things can be built and new people can move in and live happier lives. But please, please remember Byberry. Remember the place that it was, and remember the people who suffered.

-A concerned soul

A message that applies IG, but I think is reasonable enough and general enough to be well applicable OOG. I sent a copy with a hex translation to Mona, so hopefully that will help her if she's still there.

In other news, drizjr found a page about the 1885 fire. The victims were all men, and it might have been in a different location of Byberry, so probably not that applicable to Mona. But possibly useful information nonetheless.
