[META] Points for Recruiting I split this off from the original thread because I felt it warranted its own discussion thread. -- jamesi
Does anyone else feel a little put off by seeing a "leader board"? I mean, Find815 blew the TINAG element TLE had buy having the "games", and it looks like this is kinda following suit.

Yeah, I kinda hate that this is not really an "ARG", as much as a fan-service/mythos-builder. Especially since ABC Inc. has branded the website and made it absolutely clear that indeed, TIAG. But I missed out on TLE because I am just now getting into LOST (yes I know I'm four years off the track; that's why they have DVD's ), so the fact that DWY.com is here at all is enough for me.

Congratz Apopheniac79, second place on today's leaderboard. (Even if you did cheat lol)
I was wondering, what group are you in for the first and second tests?

Thanks AzureWolf!
Oh yeah I cheated my butt off Hence, the Apocheat iac79 account Though it has taken me many hours to do so. And I'm still not first Oh well, I'll keep working at it and see if I can make it to the top.
As for the groups on my cheat account; Ganymede -> Polyphemus

How many "new" accounts did you register to get to the leaderboard?

If they understand the concept of an ARG, I'll eat my hat.

I think this goes back to the question of whether or not cheating is IG. The whole Leader Board thing is only part of the Dharma recruitment system, and being at the top of that list (no offense to any leading UF members!) only has IG meaning.
The real point of the game isn't to be at the top of that list, but is to discover what's behind the recruitment system--a goal we're being helped toward by our man on the inside, RuckusGuy (or whoever it is that's responsible for the cheats and hacks).
Edit: The above argument assumes that (in IG terms) the cheats aren't being put in by Dharma itself.

As far as whether or not a 'Leader Board' is a viable part of an ARG I'm of the opinion that it is not. I don't like the idea, I mean this is not (afaik) a game in which one can 'win' anything so the idea of having an across the board 'leader' seems disingenuous to me.
The reason I started doing it in the first place was that I wanted to help screw up the idea of the leader board so bad that it would essentially render it useless and to show what a sham it is (and I have reported all of this to fellow players so they too can see how ridiculous it is). Also, I had setup a cheat account and figured if I was going to cheat I might as well swing for the fence. And the reason I continue to amass more points is that I am now caught up in it and am annoyed that someone is 'beating' me, given the number of hours I've put in. Also from Hans' most recent email

I would also like to encourage recruits to take the opportunity to earn extra "Dharma" points. These points WILL contribute to your overall test results and the eventual position you will be assigned within the Dharma Initiative.
So I would like to see what kind of difference that the leader board standing might have and if there may be any extra tasks or info passed along to those on it (and, of course, if there is I will promptly share it with those here )

As of now I have registered 400 new profiles at DWY. So my points now stand at 4000 . I hope that gets me to the top by the time of the next refresh of the leader board.

OMG !!! and here I thought my paltry 700 was doing ok. I won't ever be able to catch up to you ! Heck, I get hell here for even trying to raise my score. my bf keeps telling me how obsessed I am with Lost. He said I better not try to get your score or he will revoke my pc. lol He says that you must have written a code to do the work for you because there is no way you sat there and created all those accounts. lol

I wish I know how to write a code to do that for me. I have done it all myself. Though I have found a few shortcuts to the process, it is still a somewhat grueling task. I finally beat Lucas and that darn 'BadNumber' has bested me Oh well, I'll keep trying... maybe

To get him in touch with his conspiracy side? I agree.
