New Message

Just got a new message from Diego. The message and my reply are below. Anybody have any idea where he might be going with this? I have some theories, but I thought I'd just share the message and see what ya'll think. Scary thing is that most of my reply I actually knew, I just had to do a quick google to refresh some of the finer points.

Hey.

You're on newspaper staff, right? You've always seemed like a pretty knowledgable guy to me. Have you ever heard of 'Croatoan'? I'd like to find out what it means. I think it may have something to do with the death of Eldred Wulfheard that threw this school into such a panic.

Thanks for your help.

Hey Diego, good to hear from you. I've been a little concerned with the lack of online classes and messages.
I've actually read quite a bit regarding "American History", and I assume most of that is human interpretation, but I do know a little bit about it. "Croatoan" is several things, as I remember. First off it is/was the name of a native tribe in the coastal region of the current state of South Carolina. The tribe actually had several names (as it seems most early tribes did) but apparently Croatoan is the one that settlers/immigrants knew them by in the mid/late 1500s. That leads me to the most well known use of the word. The "Roanoke Colony" was settled on Roanoke Island in the 1580s. Their governor left for England for more supplies and returned to the colony in, I believe, 1590. The story goes that when he returned to the island he found all of the colony's buildings dismantled and the word "CROATOAN" either carved into a tree in what had been the center of the colony or carved across a wall that had been left standing.
The governor had assumed that the colonists had moved to a relatively nearby island where the Croatoan people lived, but was unable to reach it due to bad weather. So, basically the Roanoke Colony became known as "The Lost Colony" and the only clue to their disappearance was the word "Croatoan".
I've also seen the word used to reference certain "supernatural" events. Mainly they seem to be events involving disappearances, similar to the story i have related. Perhaps if you provided some further context as to how this word may be connected to Eldrud Wulfheard's death I could be of more assistance. I do hope this helps though. Keep me informed. Thanks.
Matt

There is a new youtube video from diego: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKOifb25ESg

He says that Isobella received a text message signed by Sara. The message contains the 'croatoan' stuff referenced in the communication above.

The message was:

Quote:
The are hurting us. Get me out. Hutchinson Bio. Croatoan. 37. Help.

Yep. Got a reply back with a link to the video. He says he's going to "do some more investigating tomorrow." I'm not sure what to make of those clues exactly. Did anyone ever have any luck trying to get a job or anything with Hutchinson? I've got some real world studying to do here, but I'll check back in later/tomorrow.

EDIT: Just watched the newest video again. Somebody help me verify facts here, please. Diego said "with the death of wulfheard and the kidnappings..." Please correct me if I'm wrong, but to the best of my knowledge, we didn't tell him about any of the other kids, did we? Or did Mikey tell him when they were chatting before Mikey went nuts and tried to get close to the school? I don't remember Diego mentioning anything about kidnappings before. I'm tempted to ask him about that, but my facts are a little hazy...

Looks like Diego posted another video on youtube a few days ago. In the video, Diego and someone else are in the restricted section of the library doing research about 'croatoan'. You can watch teh video for details. I'm not sure what we are supposed to do at this point, wait around for more info?? The video is available at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvAJpmsQ7PI.
PS: Where is everyone else? Are you still around??

I'm still around. I've been waiting for an opportunity to watch the video when I can have sound on my computer (son's asleep) but the past few days have been busy. I keep an eye on the Google group and the SLA forum but other than that I'm just waiting for something else to pop up.

I'm here, hadn't thought to check the youtube again though, as I didn't expect another one so soon. Just watched he video. Somewhat interesting. Tiernan Pendrak(e)(sp?) Was mentioned somewhere before wasn't he? Possibly in one the history lessons. Going to look in to that. I meant to send a message to Diego yesterday asking how the research went, so while I'm on SLA I'll send him one saying I saw the video and see if he's got more info. I wish I had more time for some of this stuff. Stupid life... Wink

I am also here (again). i was on a 2 weeks trip.

For a non native speaker those videos are sometimes difficult to understand. So if someone wants to transcript ... go ahead Wink

Who is this guy coming in? I assume Link, right?

Two books are showed where the title can be read:
"Sails of hope" - Probably a book about Columbus (just google for it)
"Harold Lamb" - or something similar.

This might help you Auz. I was confused about some of what they were saying, and Diego cleared it up for me. And yes, that was Link that walked in. He seems a little sketchy to me.

Everything's happening all at once. I'm going to post a video tomorrow trying to explain exactly what's gone on the past few days, but in the meantime I'll try to answer your questions.

Yeah, we still have the book. We're done with the research we did in it, but I haven't had the opportunity to sneak back into the restricted section to put it back. Croatoan was apparently found both burned into a tree at Roanoke (which was made up primarily by Awlyn) and carved in a stone in Yorkshire, England. Of course, the freaky part is that Croatoan is an old-Awlyn word meaning 'revenge.' Tiernan Pendrak was tracked down by the Council (for some sort of crime, I imagine). Also, the Council killed a pregnant human woman and disposed of her child. Somehow, I feel like we might've talked about this in one of our classes, but I can't say for sure. I'm honestly still not entirely sure how it all fits together, because the book only deals with the Council's actions, but I have a feeling that we're close to understanding the full story.

Yeah, some teachers have left. There are a few professors who keep trying to pretend everything's normal, but we can tell that they're scared, too. A lot of students have gone home to be with their families. Nobody knows exactly where the rumors about these kidnappings came from, but everyone's scared. Eldred Wulfheard's death was the spark that made everyone freak out.

I'm assuming that Sarah was taken by Hutchinson, but I have no idea why. I imagine that the other supposed kidnap victims were, too. This really pisses me off, because Hutchinson is one of SLA's biggest sponsors. There are a million ways that Hutchinson could've collected our personal information, and it's scary.

As for your advice on keeping a low profile: I'm sorry, but I won't do that anymore. It was because we all kept a low profile that the kidnappings happened. It was because we had to live in secrecy that these crimes could occur without intervention from the law. Hiding is the problem, not the solution.

Sounds like a job for (dun dun da duuuuuun!) SEALs! I think we need to come up with some way to use the SEALs site and maybe make a statement, take a stand, make something happen. I don't know. I'll keep thinking but I have no ideas just yet. Just seems like a good time to do something.

Also, something that keeps bothering me is the 37 thing. I know that a 37 was found somewhere long ago, was it in the source of the Hutchinson site? Did we ever figure out what it meant? I'm going to go look at the Hutchinson site again and see if I can pull something out of the air but I have to admit I was always a little fuzzy on how Hutchinson fit into the whole thing. Though I see now that they are a sponsor of the school. There's got to be something we can pull from this. I need to do a little refreshing on some things but I have some time today to think about it.

Wonder where our Mikey is?

ETA: Sorry, this probably should have gone in the main thread.

ETA again: The 37 was not on the Hutchinson site, it was on the Treehouse site when the chat box got taken down. We talked about it breifly here: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=26390

Two things. Just realised, wasn't the full screen name "NovaHelix37"?
Also, just got a new message, why am I getting all these? Not that I'm complaining, it's fun getting info/interacting... I'm thinking maybe a new video is coming up, but maybe Diego's about to do something really crazy...

I'm still not sure how all of the 37s tie together though. The number 37 has got to represent something special. SHOOT! I forgot to ask Diego what kind of seal had been used on that book in the video, and now he's going off to get into trouble... I was hoping that might be some kind of clue, as I figure it's some sort of Awlyn "magic" which is why he said not mention it on camera. I also noticed Diego commented to Jan on Youtube to check her school messages cause he needed her help, guess she didn't get that message, would've expected to see her in the movie if she'd gotten it.
Jain, where are all our 'player friends'?

I think everyone's still around, just waiting for something to happen. I wonder if Sarah's 37 in the message means she is with NovaHelix? Did he have any website/hacking experience? Or could he be an employee of Eyegasm Design? I'm not sure how to tie all the 37's together either yet.

I'm sorta here, just a little overwhelmed with RL. But lurking as only a young lad trained in the Facebook Era could! Waiting for things to pick up the pace a little bit...

yup still here. After the long pause in activity, trying to refresh on where we were with things. I'll try to coax some information from Jan and Novak.

Samhaim was a few days ago which I believe is like the Awlyn Christmas. I wonder what SLA folks have to say about it.
