Spoiler (Rollover to View):
chotto matte, kudasai = wait a moment, please

chotto=a moment.....matte=wait.....kudasai=please

So yeah, I totally agree with you. I once worked switchboard at a 5 star hotel with a corporate account with Mitsubishi....they made us all learn that so we could put them on hold, and run and get a translator.

Just got the email:

Quote:
MPORTANT: SECURITY UPDATE

Please be aware that investigations are continuing into the latest security breach discovered around the Volunteer Recruitment Program. Measures are being implemented to preserve the integrity of the program and to ascertain the identity of 'Black Swan'. Additionally, assessment data is being analyzed in order to determine which recruits may have exploited confidential information.

Recruits found to have benefited illegally from this material will be dealt with appropriately by the Dharma Initiative's Recruit Evaluation Panel.

In the meantime, I urge all recruits to avoid contact with the material being distributed by 'Black Swan'. The integrity of the entire Volunteer Recruitment program is at risk.

Dum dum dum...

I have not yet taken my Test 6, so I do not know yet what kind of questions I will get. This quoted example makes me think the questions are coming from the players -- and that Dharma is not doing any sort of fact checking. Sad, really. I learned a different word for the answer in the spoiler, so now I have to spoiler my reply:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I learned the phrase "Please stop at the corner" to be used in a taxi as being pronounced "Kono kado o tomatte kudasai." Therefore I assumed the verb isn't "matte" but "tomatte" -- and both Yahoo! answers and this site agree with me. Additionally, this is the conjugated form of the verb, so at least they didn't say it means "to stop" which is listed in my English-Japanese dictionary as "tomeru". As for the "mate" in the question, there is such a word (without the double-t) and it appears to mean "wait", which is a different command/request entirely.

So there, it's wrong. Period.

Interesting thoughts! You're absolutely right with it, this grammar question wasn't really successful one Smile

About the origin of the questions: I still suppose, these questions are generated by Dharma PMs, because we saw another situation: there were some players, whose questions are officially chosen to be included in officially Dharma tests. But to procede it the player have had to send a fax with copyright notices and legal right stuff. So since the deadline for sending fax was till 22. September and the question came on 24... I don't really know, whether they were so quick to update their questions database with player generated questions.

But who knows, Dharma is powerful Smile

Demeter

I took the test today, but didn't cheat and didn't check the boards before running it. I got questions that seemed unrelated to me, each other or anything else, and not stuff I just knew.

Didn't cheat because 1) I didn't know about it and 2) I'm on a MacBook Pro, no right clickety click like the PCs have so couldn't do it if I wanted to (tried to do it on a retake and could just do some basic commands)

Also, one question was something about which word was not related to languages - that one I knew - but it seemed REALLY out of place with all the "who invented x" and "what happened in y" questions.

Anyway, my groups are:
Ganymede
Brontes
Enceladus
Helios
Chaos
Demeter

I'm curious about people who are in the same groups and wondering if there is some kind of complimentary system or if we are all going to come from similar backgrounds. (Or, perhaps it's all arbitrary and the real test is what we make of our assignments?)

EDIT: Also, I got no tsk-tsk e-mail about the black swan contributions today. But I did watch the video in the Dharma ring about it a few days back.

Hey, I'm just getting into this. In fact, I just got into Lost in August and I've watched through all four seasons already (yeah, I know I'm crazy).

Anyway, my questions were either science/medicine or history questions, and I'm in Hestia. No cheats.

Full Results:
Pressurized Spatial Judgment Evaluation - Ganymede
Broad Spectrum Knowledge Analysis - Polyphemus
Dexterity and Attentiveness Evaluation - Tityos
Tangential Judgment Analysis - Atlas
Numeric Projection Analysis - Chaos
Specialized Departmental Evaluation - Hestia
