I didnt get anyjoy from ringing the answerphone number given in the first email. I also emailed the red cross asking for info on alan to see if that would crate a lead.

Im finding this all rather frustrating as it is clear we have to just wait for the next step.

We arent missing soemthing obvious are we?????

QuanumSat Website is Down as of 11:20 am EST

Hey Klang, glad to see you joined the forums. You'll find being a member is miles above posting as a guest, if only because the forum will email you whenever a new post is made on a thread you're participating in or watching.

I might be with you there; wondering if we're missing something obvious. So I guess we should go back to the beginning, even though it's just a few paces behind us.

Also, something's happening (something good, I hope) since I just tried to go to Quantum's website and saw it was down. Well, more deleted than down, since it's hosting space is still accessible.

Maybe this is a big update... maybe it spells something bad.

We'll see.

flikr photo site has a Map of Hopetown that is downloadable. Only a prize muppet would not see this as being of some use further down the line.

I can't really get a lot of info from that email, except maybe "satms26" could be Alan's user name?

Sorry, but I don't think so: satms26.quantumsat.com would be the name of an IG computer, one of QuantumSat's relays. If you want his QuantumSat username, it might be found on his Vimeo profile page:

DATE=040908GMT=1423&UTC_offset=3&charset=etf8&begin data transmission mode=passive&data src=a_hackston&destination=142/352&progress at err=1240000&senderID

That doesn't look like any packet header I'm familiar with. The important stuff in there is "a_hackston" is probably his username. I'm intrigued by the "destination=142/352" part, but I don't think we have enough information yet to profitably speculate on it. Now if we could get a technical contact within QuantumSat...

lol... I was just coming to post about his user name [a_hackston]... I'm thinking vastert.nl [the squirrel mail interface].

The cached version of Vastert.nl includes

KeyWords" CONTENT="sms, servicios sms, mms, mensajes a celular, mensajitos de texto, servicios celulares, enviar mensajes de texto, costa rica, costarica, comunicacion, iconos, sonidos, imagenes, mensajes masivos, envialo, sms services, services"

And that "404" on Quantumsat isn't an error, however vastert.nl was reg'd in 2001. Could be someone involved just happened to own the domain where they could throw up that Squirrel Mail wrap.

I've tried about 20 different P/W on the SM log-in - including "Wiffy" - Alan's cat, w/o luck.

The keywords just make reference to text messages, icons and sounds... and costa rica.... (my spanish is usefull at least!!! LOL Laughing )

Some information has appeared on the Red Cross intranet which I'll reproduce here. I dont think its particularly relevant, but it might be

Sixteen-year-old Joseph lives in a camp for displaced people in Northern Uganda. Five years ago he fled from his village because it was attacked and, in the confusion, he lost sight of his mum. Now he's using the Red Cross' tracing and message services to try to find her. He tells Katrina Crew about his quest and how he's hoping people will help him.

Q: How did you hear about the Red Cross?

A: After my village was attacked five years ago, I ended up in a camp where people told me how the Red Cross helped them find their families. They've been looking for my mum ever since but no luck so far. I'm not giving up, though. I met this journalist named Alan Hackston earlier this week and he told me a Red Cross messenger would be at this other camp called Hopetown. I call it that because everyone there hopes to be somewhere else – home. So I came here to talk to the Red Cross messenger about finding my mum.

Q: What's your favourite childhood memory?

A: Playing football with my dad and friends. I used to be quite good, maybe no Pele but still alright! It might sound silly but now my shoes are too small to play well. I've had them for five years and I've grown a lot since I was 11! I also like thinking about my sister and dad. I remember my sister liked reading and wanted to be a teacher. She would've been a really good one. Memories are the only thing I have left of them.

Q: If you could go back in time, where would you go?

A: I would go back to the day before my village was attacked and tell everyone to get out. Even if they didn't believe me, I'd convince my family to all leave together so at least we would all be together now.

Q: How do you relax?

A: Ha ha! Good question. Sometimes it feels like I'm too relaxed but that's because there's hardly anything to do in these camps. So really, I'm not relaxed, I'm bored. When I do find myself relaxing I start feeling guilty because I should be looking for my mum.

Q: What keeps you awake at night?

A: Thoughts about what it'll be like to find my mum and go home again. I wonder if the village is even still there so I think about Mum and me rebuilding a really nice place where everyone's safe.

Q: What do you consider your greatest achievement?

A: Hmm, I'm not sure. I mean, since I was 11 I've only had one goal and I haven't achieved it yet. I guess staying positive is a big achievement in these circumstances. I see a lot of people who have lost hope and they always tell me they don't know how I stay so hopeful.

Q: Which living person do you most admire and why?

A: My mum. I'm sure she's still alive – I can feel it in my heart. I admire her because she's the kindest person I've ever met. She's really funny, too. When I get sad I remember some of the funny things she said and it makes me laugh all over again.

Q: Who would play you in the film of your life?

A: A film of my life? Might not be a bad idea. Then I could move to Hollywood and be rich! I don't know who would play me, but of course he'd have to be really fit, incredibly good looking and very modest!

Q: How can people help you find your mum?

A: I was hoping you'd ask that! Remember I mentioned that journalist guy Alan Hackston? He dropped his SAT phone when there was some shooting outside the camp and he just took off. Using this phone to send messages is the only way I can communicate with people outside the camp. I can't get internet access but I've been sending messages to new friends around the world asking them to help me. People can help me out by going to the Traces of Hope website and sending me answers to my questions.

Q: What's the most important lesson life has taught you?

A: Always tell the people you love that you love them. Every morning and every night. Because you never know what the day will bring. Find out more about Civilians and Conflict Month

Sukie

Hi everyone

This is my very first ARG so I havent much of a clue what I'm doing but I'm giving this a try Smile

I've done a google search for Sukie and the only thing I can find is this: http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cache:xO_kCUPSxvYJ:www.redcross.org.uk/standard.asp%3Fid%3D69095+Sukie+Edmonson&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=4&gl=uk&client=firefox-a

Maybe we should contact someone on this page for info?

She also has a LinkedIn account -

I also noticed a review of Alan's book at Spinebreakers by one of the crew there and have sent an email for any information about the authors.

As a noob, any general pointers appreciated Rolling Eyes

Hi trixie

welcome to our continuing frustration....haha only kidding

Im alos very new to ARG so am also working through things myself

Ive checked out that red cross page before but couldnt see how it would be of use as it looks like it is OOG. Good spot though.

I am curious however about the interview posted above by tkerby with Jospeh as it says at the end to look at info for Citizens and Conflicts Month. Ive typed into google but nothing comes up so maybe there will be something about this appearing soon online.....something to keep busy with over the weekend!

Anyone got any other leads?

Civilians and conflict month is a Red Cross campaign for November of which Traces of Hope is a part. More details are available to the public on http://www.redcross.org.uk/TLC.asp?id=85721

Wow, lots of discussion going on here... Glad to see it and welcome to the new people.

It looks as if Sokie is getting worried... Here's an email I just received:

Hi,

Is everything alright, Alan? I thought you’d have checked in by
now. Can’t get through to you at all on your satphone.

I’ve talked to some of our people in the field and they said
you’ve been there, but they don’t know where you are now.

Get in touch – there may be peace talks in place, but it’s still
not a totally safe environment.

Hope everything’s okay…

S x

And, again, the footer text...

Great finds Trixie, though I might be blind because I don't see any reference of Sokie on the cached link. It's possible that it was there and google updated the cache between your post and my visiting the link...

Also, what is Sokie's LinkedIn account?

While I'm not doubting that the map might prove useful, at this point it's hard to see the importance of knowing where the Hopetown powers that be are planning to build their shiny new toilets... That is unless Alan is now buried under a slab of drying concrete, as indicated by one of the bathroom sites.

quantumsat emails

Hi All,

I'm joining the game.

Please note that the emails on www.quantumsat.com are gmail accounts:

bob.quantumsat*gmail.com
mitch.quantumsat*gmail.com
ari.quantumsat*gmail.com

Has anyone tried getting in touch with these?

Alex.
