Hi All,

I'm joining the game.

Please note that the emails on www.quantumsat.com are gmail accounts:

bob.quantumsat*gmail.com
mitch.quantumsat*gmail.com
ari.quantumsat*gmail.com

Has anyone tried getting in touch with these?

Alex.

That's actually very new as it used to be mailto:name@emailaccount.com for all of them.

Response from QuantumSat webmaster

Hi All. I'm new to this sort of stuff, so I'm taking it as it comes without really knowing what I'm looking for. Just trying every avenue really.

Since the quantumsat website changed the emails, I emailed the webmaster about the "broken link". I got an automated response:

Quote:
-----Inline Attachment Follows-----

This is an automated reply from QuantumSat webmaster PLEASE DO NOT
REPLY TO THIS EMAIL.

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately the QuantumSat web-team is
out office this week.

In the meantime, if your inquiry is urgent please email bobSPLATquantumsat.com

If your query is related to the functionality of the Satellite Locator
Imaging Kit (SLIK) please consult the phone manual, which is located
here: http://www.quantumsat.com/datasat100_manual.pdf

Thanks
QuantumSat Webmaster

The manual is clearly going to be important and perhaps I should email bob?

EDIT: I've emailed Bob. This time no automated reply has been sent. Guess I should wait for Bob to answer personally.

Sat Devices

Alan's device: Qsat BRC1863 | 1601GMT 02##078777##909#
Sokie's device: Qsat BRC293 | 1449GMT 02##078777##909#

BRC1863 and BRC293 are probably device idenitifiers for the DataSat 100.

It seems the second message sent by Sokie to Alan was returned (bounced back). His DataSat device is probably off.

The PLB 2000 is a location device and it seems SLIK is a web-based software which we will be using to track PLB 2000 devices.

They have just setup a new empty domain:

Which looking at the last email bounce, was quoted as extranet1###6#alertquantumsatnet.org

Compare to

extranet121964alertquantumsatnet.org

This suggests that the # is used as badly transmitted data and we might have to combine data on a number of emails

Or keep using domaintools to beat the creators to it: http://www.domaintools.com/reverse-ip/?hostname=78.31.108.36

My guess as to how this is going

- We need the slik pin code and some way of testing this. I think the link I just found may be that way when its up
- We use the slik manual to tall joseph to press the yellow button and enter the pin so we can see where he is
- We use slik online with the map from flickr to locate him and the messenger and give him directions

About The Stone Hackers
The Stone Hackers have been together for over a decade. We formed in Bob's basement one night in the 90's and we're still going strong. It's been a crazy rock and rollin' adventure. Our new album THE CLOUDS WILL REVEAL is out now!!!, avaliable from all good record stores. Our style is rock and roll with a bit of country and blues thrown in. Bob is our lead singer and also strums the guitar every now and again. Melvin is an expert on the acoustic guitar. Leyton is a master on the drums and Johnny plays the bass. We'll keep you posted about upcoming gig dates. We're due to be touring over in Texas in the next few weeks. Dates to be confirmed. Thanks for reading, Bob, Melvin, Leyton, Johnny

Would the fact that it is a squirrel in the pic on http://www.quantumsat.com/hq.html be related to the squirrel mail at http://www.vastert.nl/webmail/src/login.php

Hi everyone! I decided to try out this ARG, I have tried a few in the past (Perplex City and MacHeist II), so I'm still pretty new to ARG's. Smile

Anyway, it seems that all the employees of Datasat are out of the office at the moment? According to their autoreplies, Mitch is out until the end of next week, Ari for a fortnight, and Bob - well, we don't know how long.

Maybe this means that we will be able to find out how to track people using S.L.I.K. at the end of next week?

I may be way off here, but I thought it might be worth sharing. Any thoughts?

Wow, after all the coverage I've been reading about his game, I'd figured everyone would be a little further along by now! Not that I'm complaining, I love getting in at the beginning of professionally sponsered games.

I've signed up and will be waiting to see if I get the "back emails" that everyone's already posted here. I've been taking a look around but I'm afraid I don't have much of importance to add that hasn't been touched on already.

The only thing I've really got is that I'm certain that the "squirrel" on the /hq.html page is in fact a river otter; considering the context, it's probably the Cape Clawless Otter as the markings match and it's range is southern Africa. (Not that that really helps anything.)

Hey degravedi! Glad to see you're jumping in...

I hear you about not being that far along. We're of two minds now... Either we're missing something so glaringly obvious that we'll all be embarrassed once we figure it out, or we're just going to have to wait for the next piece to unfold.

A possible avenue...

Sukie. We've been receiving her bounced emails, for some reason. Also, she has a LinkedIn profile (although I haven't been able to find it)... I'm guessing that we should contact her via her LI profile.

Contacting Alan through his doesn't make sense since he's seemingly out of the picture right now. (One reason I haven't added him as a friend).

If any tries or has tried this please let us know.

I suppose it's possible that they're doing a slow start to let as many people as they can to know about the game and so they start roughly at the beginning.

Thanks, jlr1001. So until we have something else, here are some more random tidbits.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/alanhackston/2882163028
No one's mentioned the phone number and url here, it does seem almost a little too prominent.
Telephone # 07746368
www.sa-----ganda.com
I've tried saveuganda.com but that's been parked with GoDaddy since 2005.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/alanhackston/2881320757/
I find it interesting that in this picture -- supposedly taken in Uganda -- it shows the Kibera Day Nursery School; Kibera is in Nairobi, Kenya, 400km from Uganda. I'm sure it's just a mistake on the PMs' part thugh.

Someone noted the cached link earlier but didn't show the info that used to be listed there:
Quote:
African affairs Sukie Edmondson has spent much of her career working in the field in east and central Africa.

8. Playin' The Game
9. A Needle In A Haystack
10. My Messenger

Most everything on that list seems related to the game in one way or another.
Nala will always make me think Lion King / Africa
Fire in the Camp - Joseph was looking for firewood when his village was attacked (came under fire?).
Searching For Your Mother - what Joseph has been doing for 5 years and now we're supposed to be helping him.
Truckin' - Joseph's email was titled "Joseph truckin in Uganda"
Hacker Blues - what the whole lot of us have right now :p
Ole Joe - uh, what's the protagonist's name again?
Playin' the Game - again, what we're trying to do
A Needle in a Haystack - what looking for Joseph's mother is probably going to be like

(And fabulous, now tracesofhope.com and quantumsat.com are down...)

"Mitch" is at an Otter Spotter's Conference.
