New official review on Spinebreakers:
Quote:
Traces of Hope
Alan Hackston / Dr. Helmut Arndt
A Bit Further Than The Wright Brothers
By Imogen Ashfield / Spinebreakers Crew
The wayward hot air balloons and flaming zeppelins do not pass as even a fleeting consideration in today's holiday air travel pursuits.
The aviation industry has transformed over the past century. Engineering boomed in the early to mid 20th century with the first transatlantic flight in 1927, developments in the jet aircrafts and the global growth of airports and public passenger flights.
Human flight is faster, more accessible, safer and now even reaching new heights as Branson considers space tourism. 'Traces of Hope' begins by tracking this technological history but puts focus on its link and role in globalisation. However, this isn't a book that only acknowledges the rise in annual holidays to the Maldives, the author tackles some gritty issues as he takes examples of the use of military aviation and its substantial role in warfare. While doing so, it manages to raise some perplexing questions on how technology has impacted upon global cultural understanding and realises that such a complicated topic needs consideration on numerous levels.
In this age of global economic crisis, high fuel prices and environmental consciousness, one can't help wondering what will become of the commercial aviation industry's temporary future as airlines across the world struggle to survive. Hackston only briefly mentions this in the conclusion as this book explores much further than the profit of current businesses – it looks back on history, war, culture and flight, exploring their interplay. As the title suggests, 'Traces of Hope' is above all a humanitarian study, fascinating and detailed, it will never fail to impress and may inspire the reader to yearn to help a mission.

I do have to wonder if its an otter in the photo at http://www.flickr.com/photos/alanhackston/2882163028 next to the domain
Edit - No, it's a hippo once you play with the contrast and brightness. I'd also suggest the text is original as it is behind the head and has a small amount of noise near to the pixel levels which are clipping (around 250 to 255 codes). Could be added later but I doubt it. Given the exif suggests the photo was shot in 2006 its unlikely to have been edited or taken specifically for the game. The camera tags are genuine in the exif suggesting no editing has taken place

No one's mentioned the phone number and url here, it does seem almost a little too prominent.
Telephone # 07746368

I've tried saveuganda.com but that's been parked with GoDaddy since 2005.
It's a Ugandan Safari company

Ah, darn. I was hoping to have a little more to go on. Now it's back to waiting.

Seems like we're all at some sort of dead end at the moment.
Did anyone else (other than me) email Bob and did you get a response? I sent one on Saturday and while I got automated replies from the others, Bob has yet to respond to mine.
Having said that, I just checked my sent messages and Ari is also to respond to one.
It seems there are small clues in the emails. For example, Mitch says he's gone to an "Otter Spotters" conference...surely that's a clue that points to the otter on the photo? But other than the book review, I don't see anything of relevance. Perhaps we are missing something vital.

Interesting little thing if you remove "quantumsat" from the string:
extranet1###6#alert quantumsatnet.org
Not that it actually means anything, just an obs. [alertnet.org]
Also interesting that the IDP infrastructure map at Flickr now says it was uploaded Oct 13th???

The new image has 'WASTE' in yellow. Previously it was black.

The other difference is that the new one is a .png file, the last one was a jpg. Not sure if this has any relevance?

Oh my goodness, I think you may be right. If you look at the HQ photo: http://quantumsat.com/hq.html
I might be paranoid but I'm sure I can see faces in the clouds in the top left of the photo. Certainly a clear face on the thicker part of the cloud to the left.
I'm at work at the moment so can't do any fiddling with the photo to see if I can get anything clearer...will try when I get home if no one beats me to it.

Another newbie. I'm no meteorologist but I think the clouds are cirrus, but I'm not sure if that helps at al...
ps Maybe a stupid question but do we all get the messages at the same time?
I didn't receive the first one so only found Alan's surname through this board...

Yes I see the face. You can get the pics for that site from here:
http://www.quantumsat.com/images/
Part of the pic is not visible on that page (at least in my browser) so you need to look at the original pic ( hq-large1.jpg, hq-large2.jpg)
There are also filenames ot1.jpg, ot2.jpg for the fuzzy animal confirming that it is an otter.

About those clouds... There's also what looks like an erect "male member" up there too... So I don't know if we're reading too much into this.
Also, on a meta level, I don't see why Quantum would have buried a clue specifically about Alan on their website. There's nothing--thusfar--in the story to support this...
Back in-game...
Earlier this morning I emailed Bob, and then Mitch, with a request to demo the S.L.I.K. features. Said I had heard about the web interface but didn't have the url, and would they forward it to me...
So far I've only received Bob's autoresponder. Maybe Mitch will write back soon...
