An Aviatro ARG. Previously "Gracey Email"

I just got this in my inbox:

Quote:
Hello!

My name is Gracey, and I'm eight years old. I live in SAM-2 with my mommy and her friends. Some of them are my friends, too! My mommy says that this place used to be called South America, which is what SAM stands for anyways, but I don't remember back then. She says I wasn't born when they changed the names anyways, but I don't know the difference. Mommy says that it's the same place and that it will always be the same, no matter what they call it, which I think is good because I really love it here! Everyone is so nice and polite. Everyone likes me, too, and everyone is my friend! That's good too because I always get free tasty fruit when I go on my walks, and everyone waves at me and says hi!

I guess I should tell you why I'm sending you this e-mail. I've had this laptop casing for a long long time (like since forever!) but I couldn't find the right kind of hard drive to put in it. Mommy says this computer is really old and uses really old technology, like from before I was even born. She's right, because the screen is flat, not like the computers I saw when the PMCs came through a year ago. But it's okay, because now I can get online, and meet tons of new people to be my friends! That's why I am writing to you, because I want to be your friend. I know I'm just a little kid, but maybe one or two of the people I send this too will be little kids too, and we can be e-mail buddies. I think that would be a lot of fun, and you could tell me all about where you live!

Here's a little bit about me. I love to play outside and climb trees and go on adventures through the jungle but most of all I like to... WRITE! I write all the time, but sometimes not even on paper, just in my head! My mommy's a writer too, and she writes lots of little stories about grown-up things. She says I'm too young to understand them, but I think I would if she'd let me read them. It's okay though. I want to be a writer when I get old and move to EU-1, where all the famous artists and scientists live, and live in a nice house with Mommy and Pudge (he's my dog, I love him except when he licks my face, gross!). My mommy says she only writes for the money and she wouldn't write anymore if she could get another job, but she says it's the only thing keeping us fed, so I guess she has to keep doing it. I think that if my mommy could just write about what she wanted then she wouldn't hate writing so much, but she tries to keep her sadness from me. On the bad days where she's saddest I try to cheer her up by dressing up like Paueo the meat-man and painting my face red! She laughs, and I laugh and she feels better!

I guess that's all for now, but I really hope that you would like to be friends! I hope you get this safe and sound, because this technology seems kind of old. But hopefully it will still work! Ha ha!

Talk to you soon!

From gracey.caldwellSPLATgmail.com

This is what I sent her:

Quote:
Well Gracey, maybe you and I would communicate better at my other email, loli.haet.mootSPLATgmail.com. Would you like to email me there?
I would love to hear all about you and your mommy. Can you tell me what your favorite food is? I'm not a little kid, but I'm not much older than you, and I'm like a writer in that I am an artist. I'd really love to show you my art some time. I live in a place that's shaped like a mitten. Have you ever worn one of those? They cover your hands when it's cold, and squish all your fingers together, except your thumbs. I have two cats, Ares and Cody. We might be getting a new kitten soon, too.

Oh, and you can call me Anii. Smile

Remember to not respond to this email, but loli.haet.mootSPLATgmail.com!

Here's to hoping this is an actual game, I'd like to get back into playing.

It was sent to your personal inbox? Not your ARG one? I've done a (very) quick search for some of the stuff in her email and come up empty.

Sent off an email. I've asked what year it is. Course it could be a parallel dimension!

I think she said it was sent to a PM email of hers.

I've sent Gracey an email... Just going to wait Smile

Edit: Already heard back from Gracey... I'll post my first email to her, then her response then my latest response. In that order.

Quote:
Hey Gracey,

My name is Leyton and I was told from a friend of mine that you had emailed them and were looking to make friends on a really old Laptop you had right? Well I think it'd be cool to be your friend! SAM-2 sounds like an awesome name for a place but I've never heard of it being called that... I guess you could say I live close or in EU-1? I live in London, England.

I go to University and I study writing scripts for television shows and movies so I suppose you could say I am both a writer and an artist. Tell me about SAM-2 What do you know of it and why the names had been changed? I'm sorry, I must just have been out of the loop lately because I am honestly not recollecting a name change to countries.

-L.S

Quote:
Hi Leyton!

I haven't moved from my laptop since I got it working, so I'm really excited to be hearing from my new friends!

SAM-2 is amazing. It's so pretty here and everyone is so nice! I have so many friends here, and I'm so happy that I can meet people online to be my friends now, too! My mommy says that London is in EU-1, but I don't know where London is exactly. But it's silly if you don't even know what territory you're in! You should probably look that stuff up, it's important!

I don't remember anything about SAM-2's name being changed. It's always been SAM-2! At least, as long as I remember. But like my mommy says, the names really don't mean anything. Everything pretty much just runs itself, she says. But if you want, I'll ask if maybe the names are going to be changed soon? I wouldn't mind it very much at all if they renamed SAM-2 to something prettier, like something I've read in books! Maybe "Aladria", or something else graceful and pretty! Or maybe even "Gracey"! Wouldn't that be funny, if I lived in Gracey? And maybe a little confusing, ha ha!

Quote:
Gracey!

Wow, so cool to hear back from you so soon! I know, I know it is a little silly of me to not know what territory I'm in but you see... Maybe I have some kind of problem because I've always known of where I live as just, London... Not EU-1. Where do you think I could look up this stuff!? Because I don't want to be a silly! haha!

I think SAM-2 Probably became SAM-2 at one point and was something else before because like I say, I've never known London to be part of EU-1 so it probably changed, when? Back in 2000, right? Or, am I being a silly again!? Sad

Aww that would be cute and very pretty to rename SAM-2 to Gracey but yes, confusing! Someone would ask your name and you would say it's Gracey! And they'd ask where you're from and you would say Gracey! Again! Hehehe!

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

-Leyton.

Okay well... I'm really not sure whether to ask what year it is. I'm sure they don't just expect us to play along with their 'timeline' when we know no details.

Here's her new response.

Quote:
This is so fun, it's like we're writing letters but it's instant! And on a laptop of course, ha ha!

Actually, Leyton, I don't know how to find out what territory you are in! My mommy just told me we lived in SA-2, and so we live in SA-2! I went and asked my mommy while I was waiting for your response, she was writing a story (did I tell you she is a writer?) so she seemed distracted, but she said that England became a part of EU-1 when she was 20. The man I play chess with (his name is Johnathan, and can you believe it, he can pull his teeth out!) says it's rude to ask ladies and grown-up girls how old they are. But it was before I was born, if that helps?

You must be living under a rock if you don't know what territory you live in! Maybe you should pull your nose out of a book and go for a walk! Do you like walking?

I replied.

Quote:
I do like walking actually, Gracey. Although where I live walking isn't really that fun. You like to play chess then? That's fun, I'm not so much a chess guy personally BUT I do know how to play, somewhat and I find it fun. Johnathan can pull his teeth out? Hahaha, that's funny! They must be what I know as "False Teeth" either way he seems like a cool guy!

No, you didn't tell me your mommy was a writer, Gracey. What kind of stuff does she write? And I know it seems like I must be living under a rock or somewhat delusional but I'm telling you, I know not of any territories here other than London :/

So what year were you born Gracey?

I know she's 8 thanks to Loli's correspondance, so that's a little better than asking and 8yr old what year it is. I think she's continuously trying to point me out to something though because she makes it very well known the names of the territories aren't important.

My email to Gracey, waiting on a reply (which should be soon, apparently):

I wrote:

Good morning Gracey.

My name is Nate. I was told that you just got some old technology up and running, and are looking for friends. I seem to be somewhat the opposite of you, because I have many friends online, but few in real life. I work during the nighttime and sleep during the day, so it makes it a little hard to spend time with many people.
I live in a place called New York (though it's had that name for so long that they really should drop the "new" part. Most people think that I live in a big city when I tell them where I live, but I actually live in a mountainous area where there are lots of farms, some small cities, and even a horse racing track! Do you have horses where you're from?
I would love to hear more about your old laptop with the flat screen on it. I assume you got a hard drive to go in it, where'd you find that? What kind of operating system did you get to work? Are there any names or symbols on the case itself?
Since you can get online now, what are your favorite sites to visit? I like to read news (usually through Google) and play games (usually through shockwave.com). I guess you can access Google where you are, can you get to Shockwave? It's a pretty fun site.
I like to write too. I haven't had much of a chance just lately, but it's something I enjoy to do. I would love to read some things you've written, and maybe I'll send you some pieces of things that I've been working on.

Hope to hear from you soon
-Nate

Thought I'd send one out too Very Happy

Hi Gracey!

My name's Augusta, or August for short I suppose. A friend of mine received your email, and said you're looking for new friends, so I thought I'd say hi! Maybe we could be friends? I'm not really a little kid (I just turned 17!), but I always love making new friends!

I live in Massachusetts, which is part of the US...or maybe AM something? I'm not that good with remembering names, sadly... My parents always have to keep reminding me Very Happy I like to write as well, but I mostly make up stories about my favorite TV shows and books. Do you like to read? I love reading, I'd have to say one of my favorite books is an old one my mom recommended to me, Harry Potter. Have you heard of it?

I have a dog, too! His name is Tim, and he loves to play fetch and sleep. He's really lazy, all he does sometimes is lay in the sun and take naps. I envy him for that too, since where I go to school I get lots of homework and its not fun D: What grade are you in? Do you get a lot of homework as well?

I hope this email isn't too long! I tend to ramble, a lot Very Happy I hope to hear back from you soon!
~August

Hi Gracey,

What else do you do for fun?

Take care

Sent one out myself... sounds like Gracey is going to be busy!

Hi Gracey,

I hear you are looking for friends on the internet. I thought I would take the initiative and tell you a little about myself. My name is Jacob and I live in London, EU-1. I hear you would like to move to EU-1 when you are older. Let me be the first to recommend lovely London, I'm sure you would like it! What sort of things do you like to write? I am a sort of writer myself, but I don't write stories or letters for people, I write to communicate with computers like your laptop. Maybe that sounds silly! Maybe you could send me some of your writings, I would like that a lot!

I'm guessing that North America would be:
Canada - NA1
US - NA2
Mexico - NA3
but I could be way off base. Who knows if the countries/territories/what have you are still divided up that way? I'm guessing we're looking at 2020 or later.

OK got my reply:

Wow, you internet people sure are funny! This other boy I met, his name is Leyton, he didn't know what territory he lived in! And I've never heard of Great Britain so I guess you don't, either! Ha ha, maybe if you went outside instead of talking to friends on the internet all day you'd know where you live! Or at least what year it is! Ha ha! If you really don't know, it's August 24th, 2024. But I'm sure you know that, you must just be teasing me! Ha ha!

Anii sounds like a really nice person, and she's introducing me to so many new friends! I love painting and writing stories, so I think I'd be good friends with your family! It's funny that you are good with computers and stuff because my daddy was a PMC tech! He was really awesome and made lots of cool things.

My turn. Do you like kiwi?

Looks like were looking at 2024 any guesses if this is viral or a stand alone ARG?

Gracey wrote:

Hi Nate!

Yes, you heard correctly! The internet has so many people on it, or at least it must, because I've gotten so many e-mails since I got this up and running! But that's okay because that just means that I'll have so many more friends to make online! I don't know if I'll ever have more friends online than I will in SA-2, but wouldn't that be wonderful? I want to have so many friends that I can't remember all of them (but I will, because I want to spend time with everyone!).

I know of New York! That's where the UN is. Mommy says that they make most of the decisions nowadays, but she doesn't think they're doing a very good job. But I don't much care for that sort of stuff. It's all boring and talking and adult stuff. I heard that a whole bunch of important people live in New York. Are you important? Do you work at the UN, as some sort of night job? I think that would be kind of neat, if you could make it interesting - you know, meeting all of these people from all of these different places and bossing them around. I'm kind of bossy, ha ha! But my mommy says I got that from my daddy, so I guess it's a good thing!

I don't know about the computer, I'm kind of new to the whole technology thing - at least this stuff. Kind of funny, huh, to be new to something really old? I know how to work my mommy's digiscribe, and her video phone but not this stuff. I think that they used this old tech for the new tech, like as a model. On the case though it's got the word "Ares" written on the top. That's the only reason I kept it, because I love old stories! Ares was the God of War, but I don't know who believed in him. My mommy says that religion is a good thing and that people should be able to believe in whatever they want. But she also said that a lot of people didn't want other people believing in something else, so they argued about it and eventually the UN decided that religion wasn't a good thing anymore. She's confusing sometimes, but I guess I can see where she's right, you know? Because I wouldn't want to fight with someone, I just want to be friends! Ha ha!

Ha ha, I got distracted. I found the hard drive in a lockbox on one of my walks through Old Cordoba. The latch was open and so I opened it and found the hard drive in it! It's a good thing I found it when I did, too, because right after I put it in my bag it started to rain! I don't know if the box would have kept out the water, but thank goodness I found it, or else I wouldn't get to talk to you! But I'm confused, what's an "operating system"?

I haven't really gotten to look, actually, Nate! I've been so busy answering e-mails from all my new friends! Ha ha! I did try to go to that website you linked, but it said that it wasn't a website anymore. Are you sure you didn't type too fast and misspell it? I do that sometimes accidentally. It's like all of my thoughts are trying to explode from my hands at once, and so some of the words get stepped on, ha ha!

Please send me some of your work! I love looking at stuff. If you have a digiscribe, my mommy's number is 4015-6284-593512-CV. But if not, I guess you could try e-mailing me a picture or something? I'll figure it out, I'm a smart girl!

- Gracey

PS: Sorry I talk so much! I just love to talk to new people!
PPS: Please write back soon!

Now I have to come up with something good.

Hi Anii!

I was so happy to get a response so quickly, and to learn that my new laptop (or is it old laptop? Does making something that didn't work, work, make it new?) worked! I was so happy I went and showed my mommy, and she kind of smiled and patted my head. I don't know if she really noticed, because she was working on writing one of her stupid stories, but I guess I'll show her again later.

My favorite food? That's a hard question. We get so much good food here and it all tastes so good, but I guess I especially love the kiwi fruit! Mommy says that real kiwi is hard to find, but I can't tell the difference between new kiwi and old kiwi. They taste the same to me! Or at least, I think they do. I found a kiwi once and I was going to eat it, but my mommy took it away and said that it was the new kiwi and that I shouldn't eat it, and that it wasn't real. It looked fine to me though! But I guess my mommy knows better than I do, so I always check with her before eating kiwi! I wonder if all fruits have old and new versions? I've never asked. Are the new versions fake kiwi made of plastic? That would explain why I shouldn't eat them - plastic isn't tasty! I guess I'll have to ask my mommy when she's not so busy.

You said you were an artist! That's really cool! I wonder where it is you live, because I don't know of many places that look like mittens! At least, EU-1 doesn't. That's where all the artists are supposed to live anyways. Ha ha! I don't even own a pair because it's always so warm where I live. But I've seen pictures. They look sort of like gloves, right?

You said you have two cats. I love cats. But are they big cats or little cats? My mommy says that the big cats are slowly dying away, and that pretty soon they'll only live in the bad places, and even then only about ten of them! That makes me sad. I've pet the big cats before, and they were soft but not really cuddly. But I've never seen a little cat in person, just in pictures! They seem warm and furry, and like they'd be a lot of fun to play with!

Gosh, I am so excited to have met you! Please, tell me more!

Gracey

My reply:
Quote:
I only have little cats, but big cats have a special place in my heart, especially the rare white ones. I wonder if those have all died out? This is what they look like: http://lolosad.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/white_tiger_14.jpg

I'm a secret artist, actually. I don't tell many people, and my real job is working with technology. Here's two of my recent drawings, though:

I have never had a kiwi before, I really like the lemons though. I don't like the new kind as much, but I was alive before they took over the market. They didn't used to be so big. Are you allowed to eat meat where you are?

Give your mom a hug for me, if that isn't seen as rude or anything. Smile Yes, mittens are like gloves, but they're much harder to work in! Ha ha!

Hey, do you know who your president or ruler is? Do you go to school?

This girl is really cute. :3

I'm thinking the new fruit is just talking about GM fruit. I'm going out on a limb and thinking all animals are GMs too.
