First idea I had was that the numbers referred to verses in the Bible. That was until I hit chapter 113.

I'm staring at those CAS RNs and pulling words and/or letters out of various texts on the Passionix site, but nothing yet.

In the meantime... I'm speculating that our friend and potential Seven member "karmacist" is in fact Douglas Kressig himself; he talks about his son in his quote on the Passionix main page.

I think you're onto something here, Projectyl. We might need the CAS number for THC also, which is 1323-34-8 if my search is accurate. Looking at the 'Common Questions' page on the Passionix site, there is a submit field at the bottom in which to ask Kressig a question. The problem is, the field is set to only 30 characters. Not a whole lot of space to ask a question, but enough for a series of numbers. I've tried numerous combinations with no luck. It'd be just like me to miss something obvious though Smile

A small point (not nearly so significant as all the good discoveries others have posted recently) - On the About Us page it now says "Former Members" (plural), although Wilfred Dawes is the still the only one shown in that category; but prior to yesterday, it was "Former Member". So, appears they're expecting/preparing for other resignations or dismissals.

Perhaps the game administrators are in fact lurking on this forum... hard to believe they wouldn't be curious anout what we're discovering! So maybe they caught our speculation about Ms. Gonzales and that changed their timing?

Personally I think it'd be majorally cool if the players could throw a wrench into their works... this whole deal seems so tightly scripted and predetermined... more like a movie or novel than a game. Of course, I'm more used to PBeM's than ARG's, so probably shouldn't expect we'd impact the plot?!

Nonetheless, our collaboration is great fun!

New Daily Inspiration is up:

Code:
So-called "scientific discourse"
is only to be embraced in a
godly way. There are those who
run around shouting "Y is X!"
and "B is A!" But we all know
there is only one Word that matters.

I'm not entirely confident in my interpretation, but:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There's only one word in the English language that takes the form of "[one letter] IS [the previous letter]", as in those two examples: DISC. Note that it's also hidden in "DISCourse" as well.

PISO also fits that pattern, but that's obscure. I came up with the same solution but am also not real confident in it.

I spent a few minutes trying to find a word generally meaning "scientific discourse" that contained a B and a Y, where if you changed those letters to an A and an X, you'd get a new word (the solution). But I'm now doubting that's the right idea.

Oh, and I believe that other page has said "Former Members" (plural) for a while now. I've been checking it fairly frequently, though, so it might be that it just seems like longer to me.

Erin Cole must have our postcards, inc. mine, now and Savannah has updated her FB:

Savannah Merks is having to make some tough decisions tonight

Kudos to Domino. Also suspect when we submit the key word(s) to Douglas Kressig he responds as karma-cist as he mentions his rationale that Kevin avoid "a broken home like mine" and his familiarity with "certain notes" from GKP.
For those FB-less Savannah commented yesterday that she was "drinking a lot of coffee.". Tease or Caffeine hint? Coffee

Today's DI

I had some random thoughts on today's DI. "But we all know there is only one Word that matters." This seems to reference the "Holy Bible" which has a "y" and two "b's", but after changing those letters, I can't unscramble or make any sense out of where that leads us. Maybe someone else can if it's a right path.

I had the same thought as Qaqaq, but the only words that work (according to a quick programming run) are BYE (and its derivatives, including BYEMAN) to AXE, BYON to AXON, and LIMBY to LIMAX, none of which seems useful. (CLIMBY is not a word in any of my lists.)

Perhaps it's more generally a -1 Caesar shift, with Y-X and B-A merely serving as examples. I'll experiment.

EDIT:

FWIW, here are the 1-step Caesar shifts in my wordlist (first set shifts to second set). I only included words of at least 4 letters.

Passionix

Someone mentioned a while ago about the interesting Logo that Passionix has that highlights the apparent Roman Numeral. Have we talked about that again recently?

I've looked into it. According to modern understandings of Roman Numeral structure, VIX is entirely incorrect, however in the past has been used to represent both 14 and 16 (not at the same time)

14 because it is XIV (14 correctly) entirely backwards.
16 because it is XVI (16 correctly) with the X and the VI in reverse order (it happened when trying to achieve agreement between the Roman numeration system and the spoken and written Latin).

Out of these 2, 16 is more common, and possible a more likely option.

As well as all this possibly being completely useless, apparently "VIX AN" meaning "Vixit Annos" used to be used as short-hand on grave-stones (ancient rome..) It means "he/she lived for _ years". So VIX means "He/She lived"?

Hope this isn't meaningless...

Maybe he/she is 16 yrs old?

Let's remember that DI 1 of this week is HOWLING MAD, the 'werewolf book by Peter David. If this is some sort of topical trend, perhaps we're looking for a book title or something along those lines. I find the correlation between the idea of a werewolf and taking passionix interesting.

"Howling Mad" is what the H.M. in the A-Team's "H.M. Murdock" stands for, as tinhorn pointed out, and "disc" is what the last letter of either CD or DVD stands for. It's a loose connection, but it might be worth it to be on the lookout for future DI answers this week that are parts of things more commonly abbreviated.

Re: the Passionix logo: it looks to me more like the graphic designer was just trying to split it into "Passion" and "nix", with the N split because it's doing double duty. It is a bit weird that it was split that way instead of down the center, though.

Well, as long as we're thinking along this route - B.A. Baracus was another member of the A-Team, the one played by Mr. T.
