[SPEC] Paintover Comment Pages

Okay, we have all but dismissed the paintover comments, simply because anyone can just get on and pose as one of the Meta characters (guilty am I for this as well). However the fact is the comment pages are in game sites. They have really crappy quality, yes. They have imposters commenting on the forum, yes.

It's also an in-game website where there are most likely a few clues... very, very, VERY few, but clues no less.

So if you find anything, let us know.

P.S. Mods if this is something that belongs in the puzzle forum, fine by me.

Difficult thing is to find someone that will have the patience to read all those comments.

Some may be clues but most are hoax.

True the page is long but it's a lot of little comments. Some of it can be considered spam like people posting things like ("Orgasm?"). I can probably take the time when I'm not writing lesson plans.

I have a question though. I'm assuming a lot of people have already looked at the source of the comment pages. So this may be an old question, and the more computer literate will probably show me how this doesn't mean anything and it's irrelevant to the game. But here it goes. What's type= "hidden". Here, this is from the source from the "eye see" comments:

Quote:
<form method="post" action="http://www.paintover.net/cgi-bin/mt-comments.cgi" name="comments_form" onsubmit="if (this.bakecookie[0].checked) rememberMe(this)">

If there is a clue here I'll pat myself on the back. But if there isn't enlighten me.

I beleve you are refering to this:

Code:
<input type="hidden" name="entry_id" value="17" />

That means that the form input is hidden from you, so you can't change it or even know about it unless you check the code running it.

In this case, it simply tells the server "I want to post to article 17." That's how it knows you want to leave somthing under comments for that particular picture.

My first line of reasoning is that whoever is running the game wouldn't use such a vulnerable spot for leaving clues, because chance is that we (the players) would just ignore it because of the vulnerability... which is exactly what we did up till now.

I agree with Miss Starchild, it's quite impossible to be patient enough to read through all the garbage that's in there Rolling Eyes

But I have been wondering why it's there if it has no function... maybe the PM's wanted te be assured there was a place people could discuss the game if "major communities" like unFiction did not pick up on it... Wink

Maybe it will become apparent in future posts... perhaps the group of hackers get deprived of new places to hack, so they will have to use the Paintover boards? We can only guess...

it'd seem to me with the competency of the pms, that if they saw the message boards on paintover as a method to get out information, that they would of filtered out or changed the names of posters that tried to mimic 'the hacker' names.. just my 2cts..

But it does seem that once in awhile someone does post something useful there or a hint before it hits the forums or irc... hmm..
