Hm. I went by the library, where there was already another dude with the second copy of the book, and we couldn't find anything. I did find a post-it inside the cover from FC&A, with a phone number - 1-800-226-8024, and two numbers handwritter, like this
645
775

but I called the number and it seems to be a legit publishing company with no idea what the hell I was talking about. The internet says the same. I can't figure out where it goes from here, maybe the other guy will have more info or we'll be able to figure something else out once more people have gone to their libraries?

I've been wondering - if these are ISBN numbers, why were they written two different ways, with and without hyphens?

It could be to throw us off, but it could also be just the way ISBN works. I don't know much about the system.

Ah, here, wikipedia says hyphenation can vary - namely, here:

Quote:
By using variable block lengths, a large publisher will have few digits allocated for the publisher number and many digits allocated for titles; likewise countries publishing much will have few allocated digits for the group identifier, and many for the publishers and titles. Here are some sample ISBN-10 codes, illustrating block length variations.

NYPL
documents

we found the documents in the second book at the NYPL - there were 3 papers

one with a hand drawn picture of skulls - handwritten text saying "11/9/98 - is this what i must prevent? or is this what must be?"

one with a drawing of a giant with dead people with "10/05/98 - Third this week THEY WILL NOT STOP"

one with someone burning in flames "2/1/99 My god, what are you saying to me."

I was that dude. I didn't find anything, but it looks like I got there late and someone else nabbed what was in the books. But the books were bookmarked with certain pages marked. I don't know if it even significant anymore.

Dunno if it helps, but I checked out that publisher's website, and they have a section of the site marked "Devotion." The pages it links to all are pro-Christian and filled with scripture quotes and the like.

Did someone go to the SF library and not let us know? My friend's at the library now and can't find anything in any of the copies of that book, and I'm a little frustrated if somebody just jetted over to get the clue and isn't planning on sharing. Did she waste her time? What's up? She says there's only one copy with that ISBN and it's checked out.

I have the scans from the NY clues, but I'm having trouble loading the stupid remote hosting site. If I register here will I be able to attach files? It's a pdf.

Hold that thought - she found the clue from the SF location. (It was in the adult section.) It's a disc that says 10 31 08. She's going to send me the contents when she gets back.

Any progress on finding people in Phoenix or St. Louis? The only guy I know in MO is two hours away at least, I wouldn't want to ask him to travel that far just to hit a library. Smile

Here are the scans from the NYPL. Can anyone make any sense of them?

Nice work! I won't be able to head to Cedar Rapids for 3-4 hours, so if someone else is retrieving it (unlikely as that is), please let me know as it's an hour roundtrip.
